Sometimes you meet someone and you instantly feel that you are going to be friends with that person for the rest of your life. I felt that when I met Laurie. She was an aspiring artist in her last year of college and expressed interest in exhibiting and working on projects and soon after she became apart of our team and family. Laurie Tobia was a bright, compassionate gem of a person who had a great passion for friends, surfing, travel and expression through art. Every person that I have known to come into Laurie’s life has only grown to love her. I’ve always appreciated Laurie’s surfer style laid back, no worries attitude. No matter what was going on around you; if she were present you instantly felt a sense of contentment and peace, and you were usually laughing a lot. She was never afraid to be silly and had a great sense of humor. She greatly cared about the people around her and it always showed in her actions. If someone were having an amazing day or had a great accomplishment she shared that joy as if it were happening to her. If someone were trying to hide sadness or discomfort Laurie would also read those feelings. She was very in tune with people’s emotions and would be quick to try to cheer them up. I’ve always admired Laurie free and adventurous spirit. She was always down for spontaneous projects, adventures, road trips across the country... She’s expressed how she would love to continue to travel the world creating art wherever she landed. Laurie was very special to many people. She was like a kid sister and a dear friend to me. My heart is crushed for her, for her friends and for her family. I’m wishing all who knew Laurie love, patience and my sincere condolences through this challenging moment. The memories of our projects, adventures, road trips, our friendship will always be with me and it is within her expression thru her art that she also leaves us behind a legacy that will live on. ❤️ - @roddywildeman on Instagram

Suffice to say, these past two months have made it abundantly clear what is actually important in life, and this community of people fall squarely into that category. So grateful for all our truly wonderful guests and we’ll miss welcoming you into our funny little space. Also grateful to still have a job when so many of my friends and peers do not-working with the other half of our company as it pivots into “Season To-Go”. Voor vandaag 6 juni 2020 hadden twee Crazy trailers van het eerste uur een plan. @maartenstorm en @redbeardrunning gingen een poging doen op de FKT van het Krijtlandpad in Limburg. Dit pad is 90.3 km lang en heeft ongeveer 800-1300 hoogtemeters. Het huidige record op naam van @thomasdunkie en @polderzwitser de polder zwitser staat nog steeds op 8 uur en 32 minuten. Naast deze twee lopers die onderweg een paar keer konden rekenen op de steun van broer Willem-Jan liepen er ook nog 3 lopers het hele Krijtlandpad just4fun. Bij de start nog gepaced op de eerste 30km door @ace_dave. De sfeer zat er direct al goed in! Na 42km kregen we het bericht dat Maarten en Jack behoorlijk aan het doorlopen waren. 3.32uur stond er op de klok. Vervolgens bleef het even stil aan het front. Na 61.83km kreeg Ron, Maarten aan de telefoon. Het was te hard gegaan, hij had zijn snelste 60km ooit gelopen en gooide de handdoek in de ring na 5 uur 27 minuten en 47 seconden. Helemaal opgeblazen maar wel erg blij met dit resultaat. Ron vroeg Maarten hoe het met Jack ging, Jack was doorgelopen vertwlde Maarten maar was een aantal keer fout gelopen en had problemen met zijn GPS. Helaas ook Jack stopte ermee vanwege voornoemde problemen, een vocht tekort, duizeligheid en besloot ook in de bezemwagen te stappen. Jack:We zijn samen begonnen en we eindigen ook weer samen...met een beertje. Eenmaal in de auto nog wel een lach van Jack, maar dan helaas een van een kiwi met snavelpijn. June in the summer of ‘93 Cafe Miranda opened our doors to you, our fabulous customers & staff. Oh, the memories we’ve shared! My heartfelt thanks to all of you, too many to name, but especially Evelyn Donnelly, co-founder (& Miranda the dogs owner) & son Evan. YOU all made it rock. 28 years later in the midst of world shaking events here we are. The past, as the Irish poets say, “is not.” Change is happening everywhere and at CM. I know y’all want that Miranda food, we hear you and are grateful for that. Although we can’t currently serve you in the way we are accustomed too, we are so thankful that you have been there to support us in our newest adaptation: Pizza on the Street (POTS). POTS is our first project moving forward. We serve wood-fired slab-style pizza & salads, baked pastas, desserts, beer and wine curbside at CM from our mobile brick oven, Fri-Mon 4-7 (for now). Thank you to everyone who spread the word about Pizza on the Street, supported us, tipped us, and encouraged us! Thanks to you we are able to keep moving forward! As for Miranda proper we aim to be operating at full tilt as soon as it is safe and we are ready. We are currently creating a revised Miranda menu for take-out. When we think it wise, we will serve you all in the safest manner possible. Thanks to the City of Rockland we have access to Oak Street & the parking lot in front of Miranda. Hoboken has filed a lawsuit against Exxon Mobil, Shell, BP, Chevron, ConocoPhillips and the American Petroleum Institute for damages inflicted on upon the city through the impacts of climate change. Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla announced on Wednesday the lawsuit, which was filed in Superior Court of Hudson County. In its 146-page complaint, the city argues that the oil companies and the API, which lobbies for the oil industry, have known about the future impacts of climate change for decades, but actively denied the science of the unfolding environmental catastrophe while prioritizing profits made from global societies reliance on oil and natural gas. The pain of flooding in Hoboken is not shared equally by city residents. The west side is home to much of the city’s communities of color and low-income population, including those who live in the Hoboken Housing Authority. Bhalla pointed out that HHA residents spent days trapped in their homes without electricity in the wake of Sandy. “They knew what was going to happen. They knew exactly what was going to happen, but they were driven by corporate greed,” Bhalla said of the oil companies. “They placed their own profits over people, and they placed profits over our own planet Earth. Yes, this rest will also benefit the forest, all those migratory birds will come back and reproduce a lot, maybe some new species will choose to stay here, grass, flowers wont be thread on and sone eroded paths will go back to nature.
