This Saturday, we get to again enjoy the Tire Shop space at 2600 N. Howard St. and welcome in incredible local chefs and makers. During its time as Parts & Labor, many of us spent long nights out by the firepit and were awed by all of the hard work put in by the P&L team to do sustainable, delicious butchery and cuisine. Ugh this makes me so sad. Back at @northwesternu I practically lived at Unicorn Cafe. Pretty sure it was first place I performed at college, they used to have a piano on the slightly elevated stage. Most songs I wrote for @griffinstagrm and @thewaamushow were created in my 2-block radius of Allison Hall, 614 Clark St, the music building and Unicorn. Really, any writing for anything... whenever I didnt crack something at night, Id hit Unicorn at 7am to finish it. Olga’s Diner is 100% killing it with the outdoor seating game! Beautiful glass patio tables with umbrellas fill the parking lot while maintaining great distance between parties. While there were only a handful of folks there while we ate dinner, the wonderfully attentive waitress definitely got her steps in today covering the entirety of the lot and running back inside to get the food. Disposable paper menus and plastic-wrapped utensils definitely increased the hygiene awareness while the accent candles and plants on each table helped to prevent anything from blowing away. The food was equally spectacular with the weekly special’s Swedish meatballs over a creamy white wine sauce and pasta was delectable and the pancakes were very well crafted - they may look dried out in our photo, but we promise they were delightfully fluffy! As was the cheesecake that was a terrific creaminess. Inside, you could see they were gearing up for inevitable indoor seating as red x’s marked where not to sit. The lovely retro interior showed evidence of the new construction while paying image to the aesthetic of days gone by. In name, Olga’s Diner laid diner royalty claim in Marlton for 50 years until it closed in 2008 and was eventually torn down in 2017. This new building at a location just down Rt 73 from the original was opened last fall, and we look forward to returning when everyone can enjoy the full menu at a seat inside! @here_we_run gratitude run/ walk. Start each mile by saying “I am grateful for...” Mile 1: I am grateful for..... THE SUN! The sun finally decided to make an appearance today after several days of clouds and rain. I have been craving some vitamin D and it felt to good to feel the sun of my face. The sun always makes me feel better about life and have a more positive attitude. Mile 2: I grateful for....MY HEALTH- both physical and mental. My body has carried me through almost 24 years of life and I haven’t always been kind to it. So for it to allow me to go upside down or run 13.1 miles is truly a blessing. I am someone who literally always gets a runners high and believes she can conquer the world after any form of high intensity exercise. Once those endorphins start flowing, I’m good to go for hours. Being able to get outside makes such a difference in my day. Practicing yoga or just pausing to take some deep cleansing breaths allows my mind to focus and come back to reality. Thankfully, being an introvert my whole life has prepared me for this unique time in history and my mental health hasn’t suffered as much as it could during this time. Mile 3: I am grateful for..... FAMILY AND FRIENDS. My mom has been checking on me even more than usual to make sure I am okay. My friends send me memes so I never get too down about being alone. Do as @ochosystem does and check in on your friends!!! Even the ones who seem to be doing fine right now. Mile 4: I am grateful for.... KIND HUMANS. Doctors and nurses putting themselves at risk to continue to fight this virus. Grocery store workers who are also exposing themselves so that we can get food or toilet paper (without hoarding!!) Fitness instructors have been my saving grace. Heres a newly renovated William Krisel designed home. (Model 14-A) About 3 - 4 were constructed and easily identified by their distinctive array of open air beams that allows light to drench the front of the home in all directions. 14As were designed with sunwell glass walled bathrooms which act like mini atriums next to the tub to let natural light into the inner parts of the home. They also were designed with sliding glass front doorways once the resident passed through the front patio gate. This Friday, 11am-8pm, I’ll be out at Cookie Corner taking donations for our community sharing event for people affected by the El Dorado Fire. The main sharing event will be happening this Saturday, 11am-2pm. We’ll be filling the warehouse space with donations: gift cards, non-refrigerated foods, VERY lightly used or new household items, new clothes and new kids items, or any new items that you think would be helpful. Four homes have burned in the fire, and thousands of people were evacuated—which even though evacuation might not seem like a big deal, it still creates financial loss for people, especially in a place like Oak Glen, where a lot of people live AND work in Oak Glen. So when they got evacuated on the starting weekend of Apple Season, it meant that they also couldn’t work until the evacuation orders were lifted. Because of current health precautions, please only donate very lightly used or new items. We will try to share every donation that we receive. Today, Commissioner Visnauskas announced the completion of upgrades to the Westbury Recreation & Community Center Complex. These are a couple of clips from yesterday’s “A Movement Not A Moment Unity March” in Lakewood CA. When we got to the sheriffs station we encountered a large group of police force. They all wore riot gear. They had rubber bullet guns in their hands and held on to them with excitement on their face. They even had barricades up to stop us from marching and barricades at the exits of the Lakewood center stores. They even brought out a helicopter. We were a crowd of about 30. We were all peaceful. You may have noticed that the street in Downtown Campbells been opened again. Yes, this does mean that the street closure experiment is coming to an end, but not entirely. After doing this for a bit over a month, the City of Campbell in consultation with the community of small businesses in Downtown Campbell deemed the road closure to be too detrimental for some of the businesses, but were not giving up on creating more opportunities expand outdoor options. Instead of having the road either closed or open, were going with a hybrid approach with parklets. These are parking spaces transformed into outdoor seating areas. It will take about three weeks for all the barriers needed to get the parklets in place to be installed. In the meantime, the street will be open Mondays through Thursdays and be closed on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. This means that until further notice, the road closure will still be in effect on Fridays and weekends. As soon as the parklets have been fully installed, Campbell Ave. will again be open to traffic seven days a week. The parklets will be kept in place for a minimum of three months, but would likely continue indefinately if everything goes well. We know this news comes as a disappointment to many of you out there and were sorry that we couldnt continue it, but the City of Campbell is taking everything it learned from the month long road closure experiment and applying it to this new effort to give it a much better chance of working out for everyone. Also, weve been very pleased with how much improved youve all been about following safety guidelines since we started the road closure. Most people in Downtown Campbell are now wearing masks and wearing them correctly. We had another follow up appointment today to re-check my labs and got some good news! My platelets are at 252,000 (up from 34,000 in February 😱) and my liver enzymes are back to normal levels again now that I’m off most of the meds. My BUN is still slightly elevated, but it is starting to look better too! We are decreasing my prednisone dose again and will re-check again in a few weeks 🙏.
