This allows spikes to form a defensive pattern once hedgehog is under thereat and to remain smooth during grooming and social interactions. ⠀ ⠀ 🌿Spiky fella has a custom brass stand. A 3,000 year old Egyptian mummy foot with a prosthetic big toe. Made from wood and leather, it is one of the oldest prosthesis to ever be discovered. The foot with the amputated toe belonged to a woman who was approximately 50 to 60 years of age when she died. The prosthetic toe was designed with a nail divot, which likely signifies that aesthetic was an important factor in wearing it, especially since Ancient Egyptians often wore sandals. The prosthetic also helped the woman with her balance when she walked. According to Andrea Loprieno-Gnirs of the University of Basel: “By using a sophisticated way of fixing the individual parts of the prosthesis to each other, the artificial limb had a balancing effect and gave, to some extent, a freedom of movement. “Based on our scientific examinations, our team was able to verify at least four materials used for manufacturing the prosthetic device. Splenic laceration It may not look like much, but this can be a deadly injury if not dealt with quickly and definitively. This injury is also one of the most frequent reasons for requiring emergency surgery after blunt force trauma. The spleen is part of your immune system that besides being a filter for old cells circulating in your blood, it also is the main source of the body’s Complement system, which enhances your body’s ability to fight off a specific type of bacteria. Therefore, while you can live without your spleen, one of the trade offs is that you will require ongoing vaccinations against the most common of these organisms. Esta es la osteotécnia de un cráneo de anaconda (Eunectes murinus). Los cráneos de las serpientes se caracterizan por una cavidad craneana con articulaciones mucho más fuertes que el resto de los huesos. Las mandíbulas se mantienen unidas por tejido blando, lo que sumado a la presencia del hueso cuadrado permiten una gran apertura de la cavidad oral para el ingreso de presas de considerable tamaño. La anaconda es una serpiente de tipo constrictora, por ende no venenosa, de la familia Boidae, es endémica de los ríos de Sudamérica y es la que posee mayor longitud a nivel mundial.
