We recently made the new site-specific artwork A GIANT SCULPTURE for the nature reserve Hoge Mouw. Situated near Kasterlee in the North or Belgium, this varied landscape with coniferous forests on sandy soil, with moors, fens, open sand drifts, hollow roads and streams is also rich in mystical stories dating back to pre-Christian cultures. The sculpture is conceived as a dome-like faceted shell, representing the head of a classical statue, made up of 2115 welded 6 mm-thick metal triangles. Installed in an intimate forest clearing on the top of a 30-metre high dormant land dune, the head - appearing as if it has just been uncovered while the rest of the body remains hidden under the surface - rises from the sand like a vestige of ancient times. The placement of this new, uncanny element furthers the mythicalisation of the very particular landscape. 📷 @matthijs_vanderburgt #gijsvanvaerenbergh #publicart #insituart #publicsculpture #sculpture #monumental #monument #monumentalscupture #sitespecificart #publicart #hogemouw #naturereserve #cortensteel #landscape #forestclearing - @gijsvanvaerenbergh on Instagram

My aim is to find liveness in cold and hard material. By the slow breathing sound, like a crackling fire, some people experience it as if they’re sitting by a fireplace or near a soft moving ocean. It has this meditative effect. I love it when people can experience my projects by walking through them. @grietjeschepers - @osas.aghaku on Instagram

💥 -----⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The control centre for all commands is a 40 to 45 centimetre long nerve tract along the spine - the spinal cord. With a diameter of about one centimetre, it runs through the bony spinal canal from the base of the skull to the first or second lumbar vertebra. From here the spinal cord merges with the nerves of the pelvis and legs, which leave the spinal canal in nerve cords. ⠀⠀⠀ The structure of a nerve can be compared to the structure of a cable made of copper wire and insulating layer. In contrast to an electric cable, however, nerve tissue can be stretched and shifted up to a physiological limit so that it can adapt to the movements of the body. Undisturbed nerve function requires that the tissue is well supplied with blood and that the nerve is not constricted or injured at any point. ⠀⠀⠀ By the way: The spinal cord can trigger lightning-fast reactions, so-called reflexes, even without a diversion via the brain! 💥 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -----⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #körperwelten #koerperwelten #körperweltenberlin #berlin #körperweltenfreiburg #körperweltenheidelberg #plastination #anatomiedesglücks #heidelberg #gehirn #wirbel #spine #rückenmark #wirbelsäule #spinalcord #nerves #bodyworlds #bodyworldsmuseum - @koerperwelten on Instagram
