Anyone who has been around me knows this project has been in the works since April of last year. The design team wanted to stay committed to the identity weve built at GMU without being redundant. We knew we wanted to stay within our general approach, which has been called theatrical and cinematic. It was very purposeful that we chose a genre we could create within, playing upon and against the conventions of the Western. This is by far our most badass program to date, and I am excited to have put together another show that speaks to the experience and characteristics of our ensemble. About 3 years ago I was a shattered burned out shell. I had finally found the strength to leave a toxic, abusive & codependent relationship It took every ounce of my being to walk away, which I had been gathering up for years.That’s how it is with unhealthy relationships we have with anything (partners, food, our bodies, family, alcohol, drugs...etc) . It’s a journey, gathering up the pieces of your power you let go of or tucked away to survive what you were going through . I was exhausted in every sense of the word. My whole medicine wheel was depleted. I could barely tear myself off the couch to teach yoga & the moment I got home I’d fall into sleep again . But though it was tough to find the energy to teach, it was yoga & that community that saved me & gave me a reason to keep moving forward. I’d practice at home & the studio several hours a week & I’d cry my heart out in grief & gratitude that my healing journey was moving deeper . Living in codependency is a multi layered reality. It’s very easy to point your finger at the other person & see all their faults & what they need to heal. Seeing yourself as a codependent & enabler is much harder. I suppose it’s always like that - we don’t want to see our own blind spots. . It’s hard, humbling & painful. But that is the yoga practice. It’s not the ever lasting peaceful oasis people often make it out to be. Yoga is a reckoning with yourself . When you come to my classes, you will often find my drum beside my mat now. Today is bitter sweet as it marks the closing day of Emerging North at the Yukon Arts Centre in Whitehorse, Yukon. Emerging North is the first major art exhibition I have ever curated and I loved every minute of it! ❤️❤️ I had the great pleasure of curating eight incredible Indigenous artists: Violet Gatensby, Krystle Coughlin Silverfox, Jeneen Frei Njootli, Kaylyn Baker, Cole Pauls, Blake Lepine, Benjamin Gribben, and Heather Von Steinhagen. The exhibition was only meant to be up for three months with its opening reception corresponding with the opening of the Arctic Winter Games. But we all know that that didnt happen! Instead, the Yukon Arts Centre jumped on the chance to do a virtual tour of the exhibition as soon as they knew their doors would be temporarily closed. The exhibition was up for a total of SIX months, one of the longest running shows at YAC and was featured in the Field Trip Art Across Canada Series. 😁 YAC was also able to organize a fantastic virtual artist talk! If I could be anywhere right now... Id have my phone switched off in the mountaintops, enjoying the people, sights, sounds, style, of an ancient village frozen in time. Singapore, I love you, but I miss exploring. Being locked down for half a year (unless u want to quarantine in a SDN facility for two weeks... No thanks) has made me reassess why Ive made Singapore my home for the last twelve years. Its also made me face my uncomfortable eco-living versus urban-living personal crisis. Perhaps more stillness does that. Ive been fantasizing about an off-the-grid Nature House...Built somewhere in sync with nature, with its own produce, local food sources, micro hydro dams, solar panels, aannnnd, a state-of-the-art atelier weee! A place where values shift away from the rat race, and toward the flow of real, human value creation. A creative hub, a heavenly home, a paradigm shift. If you live in your favorite place on earth, and you can work from there - why not? If anyone has experience with radical sustainable living in Asia, pls ping me. Posted @withregram • @jayholben With incredible thanks to cinematographer and producer @greigfraser_dp I got to play in the Star Wars Universe and spend four months last year tracking the incredible technology behind The Mandalorian. Over the course of the four months I got a first-hand experience on the set as showrunner @jonfavreau with executive producer @dave.filoni brought Mando to life in a truly extraordinary way. I was able to spend significant time with DPs Greig Fraser, ASC, ACS and @bazidoine, VFX Supervisor Richard Bluff, and I conducted interviews with more than 40 individuals on the production team to author an internal white paper for LucasFilm on the technology and its evolution (and, yes, even met The Child aka Baby Yoda). A portion of this in-depth work was given special permission by Disney, LucasFilm and ILM to be included in the @american_cinematographer article on the show. Many will TRY and talk about this tech - but it took four months to go deep enough to get a true understanding of it and I guarantee you the info in AC (and nearly DOUBLE the information in the online version of the story that couldn’t fit in the magazine (link in bio)) is the most accurate and thorough information you’ll find. Very rarely do you get an opportunity to work on something with a group of friends that just falls into place so effortlessly. @thenbhd video for Pretty Boy feels like the culmination of conversations that @chipchrome and I had been kicking back and fourth for awhile. 🖕2020 mood🖕 This would have been my 7th consecutive year, and this installation from 2019 sums it up 🤷♀️ it’s been a weird feeling all week not getting dusty with my fellow Citizens of BRC 💔 I’m deeply missing this bizarre pilgrimage that I have spent my adult life indulging in. ⠀ The experience is so much more than the burn itself, it’s finding inspiration in thrift stores months in advance, referring to inside jokes 365, planning road trips centered around Nevada, fighting with UHaul over box truck reservations (when you know, you know 😂), last minute changes in decompression plans because you met someone special, ziplock bagging everything, wondering if you should finally upgrade bikes, buying 6L of vodka and drinking none, making “just one more” costume stop on the way. ⠀ It’s returning to the default and making major life changes because you realize you’re stuck in a rut and the giraffe riding a giant dildo car handing out wood-fire pizza at 6am has a better grasp on reality and what matters than you. It’s an array of playa friends, teachers, falling in love (not ever lasting 😂) and bacon. ⠀ It’s a storage unit in Reno where all your favorite costumes live, and that new memory foam mattress, ‘cos hey you’re an adult fancy burner now and every rave Kween 👑 needs their 3hrs beauty sleep. It’s having enough gear where you now question if in 2020 you should just move out West and live in an RV? It’s being a sunrise person, howling at sunset and calling streets by letters. ⠀ Most of all it’s hard work, a lot of planning and logistics and a 3 day build in the lead-up....where you realize the longer you participate - the more you would rather build than burn......and burn night is spent likely sleeping, eating and wondering where the week went by. It’s sweat, personal reflection, self work, challenge, grit and a whole lot of laughs. ⠀ For me it’s my Christmas and New Year’s Eve ~ because this week feels more joyous than any commercial holiday. This year I hope everyone still takes the time to burn an Effigy and set some intensions, the man will burn again.....and in the meantime we will all just make sure we stand 6ft apart ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ - @katestein.music on Instagram

So thankful for this special handmade gift from my friend Ace out in Oklahoma. You guys have heard him & my other friend Jesse at the end of “White Noise/White Lines”. Each bead and symbol means something, this band tells a story. It is tied together with brain tanned deer hide he did himself. He surprised me with the John Prine “JP” initials to hold with me as well. I kept it on my stand all weekend while in the studio to keep John’s memory close to me. As Ace said, “these beads and this story will last longer than both of us, and that’s why they were so important to us (the Chickasaw) and that’s why I wanted you to have it”.
