- 🐢💔People think fishing is a guy with a pole, or a small boat with a net. The accidental killing of turtles, dolphins etc. makes a lot more sense when you see how massive the nets really are.

You know it is going to be a good day when your first peek through a microscope in a long time yields such a magnificent view! This year has been one of major life changes and watershed moments for me personally and professionally. So much has been happening, I haven’t had a moment to catch my breath even! A new home, new job, moving in with my loving life partner (and best friend), newly adopted pet (one more on the way), loss of my beloved dog who was much much more than a pet to me (he was everything), a new tattoo (dedicated to my dog Coco), incredible experiences ranging from conservation field work to debuting as a speaker on stage to meeting and befriending some incredible people ! Phew. I am sure I have managed to leave some things out owing to my poor memory! But coming back to the beach sand grains in the pictures above, what a sample I happened to pick up from my last trip to Goa! Microscopic remnants of #marine animals including the single-celled #foraminifera, micro-mollusks, sponge spicules, #coral and rock fragments and what not, all that in one tiny pinch if #sand, all in a single frame! I intend to resume #microscopy with a renewed vigour, again :) It is good to be back. - @purvavariyar on Instagram

Texas Gold Millipede - - Scientific Name: Orthoporus ornatus . Taxonomy: Animalia -- Arthropoda -- Myriapoda -- Diplopoda -- Spirostreptida -- Spirostreptidae -- Orthoporus -- ornatus . Status: least concerned . Features: This species has a gold colored body (hence the name) with dark brown segment lines. Typically has a dark brown head. Has been recorded up to 6 (15.24 cm) but on average is about 4 (10.16 cm) . Distribution: Can be found in the wild in U.S. states of Arizona, New Mexico and Texas as well as the Mexican state of San Luis Potosi. . In captivity: This species prefers more arid conditions than that of previous Florida species. In the wild, they prefer more sunshine than many species. Note, desert does not equal 100% sand. Still keep them in a substrate of mostly organic soil. Also to note, dont be worried if your millipedes disappear for the winter months; its completely normal and they should reappear in the spring! . . Footnotes: N/A . 🐛Personal Notes🐛 Sorry for skipping around with species! The reason Im covering the Golds now is because I just got several of my own! They are absolutely wonderful and my biggest species to date. They do spray their toxins much more often than my other species, but of course it isnt dangerous. In my tank, I experimented mixing my usual substrate with childrens play sand (so its non-toxic) to try and aerate the soil better. So far all is going well and they seem to enjoy digging into the sand. Also, as the holidays are here Ill probably be posting less for the next couple of weeks. At the most I might post every other week instead of every week, but it shouldnt be any longer than that. Thanks for reading! . . Have any species you want me to cover or have questions on? DM me! . . ~~Tags~~ #oornatus #orthoporusornatus #texasgoldmillipede #desertmillipede #millipede #millipedes #myriapod #diplopoda #fieldguide #millipedemanual . -Photo References: myself -Information References: wikipedia - @the.millipede.manual on Instagram

WANT TO SEE BACTERIA🧐⚡️??? One of the coolest inventions I have seen in years are these loupes and headlight (REVEAL), invented and developed by our new faculty member Prof. Liviu Steier (made by Designs for Vision). Other than similar hand-held devices and cameras, you can wear these loupes while working⚡️💥and detect demineralization, differentiate between active and inactive caries, clearly see calculus and plaque, distinguish between tooth and restorative materials, and even identify intraoral cancerous lesions. This truly enables MINIMALLY INVASIVE DENTISTRY while giving you the assurance of complete removal of active caries, plaque, etc.💥 HOW DOES IT WORK??🤓 A defined light spectrum emitted by the headlight creates photoluminescence due to fluorescent properties of natural tooth structure, bacterial side products (porphyrins), materials etc. To allow visualization of the emission wavelength, special filters are needed and these special loupes and glasses are coated with several layers. We are starting several studies to test the efficacy of these loupes compared to traditional protocols and I will be sure to update you on their outcomes!!!! EXCITING TIMES!!😄😁 #estheticdentistry #cosmeticdentistry #dentist #dentistry #zahnmedizin #operativedentistry #prosthodontics #prosthodontist #dental #dentallab #dentallaboratory #prothetik #odontologia #zahnarzt #dentaleducation @dentinaltube @dent.blogg @dentistry.world @dentistsworld99 @dentistryscience @pedro__gamero - @profmarkusblatz on Instagram
