made this at the beginning of the pandemic, it’s still 100% the way I feel ❣️ as someone with anxiety and a history of OCD, I reallllllly deal poorly with uncertainty. when someone says “well it’s not likely that —insert bad thing here— will happen!!” my brain is like, yeah okay fine, but there’s still a CHANCE the bad thing will happen!! and if you are an anxious person like me, you might know the feeling of believing that every possible bad thing *will* happen and it *will* be the WORST. this is part of why I don’t like saying shit like “everything will be okay!!” because sometimes that’s just not true. and trying to erase the possibility that something bad will happen does not actually soothe anxiety, sometimes it just makes it worse, and can make anxious people feel even more alone. instead of trying to paper over, I try to ground myself in things that are true and solid: I cannot promise things will turn out okay, but I can promise try to be as adaptable and helpful as i can be. i can’t promise that everything will be okay, but I can promise to show up. I can promise the best of my ability, I can promise my heart. I can promise to keep going. . . . this is a bad day in a series of bad days, a bad week in a series of bad weeks. there is no “right thing to say” because nothing can make what’s happened this year (and all the things that happened to create the material circumstances for this year) okay. so this is simply an offering of love. ❣️ let’s keep drinking our water and taking our meds. please reach out to me if there’s anything I can do to help support you right now. ❣️ - @sarahdayarts on Instagram
