Back in July 2018 we worked with three volunteers to install 4 wicking beds on a dusty patch of land close to the West Pymble Mall. Over the next 12 months more wicking beds were installed, all thanks to community grants from @kuringgai_council Earlier this week I was in the area and decided to pop by to see how things had progressed. Fair to say the group have done an amazing job and the site looks fantastic. Community Gardens and Urban Food Growing spaces not only provide healthy and nutritious food but they add so much more to the community and those that are involved. Much is available on-line and in print about the therapeutic benefits time with nature brings and especially during the current health emergency now, more than ever, these spaces are offering so many mental health benefits to so many people. This is a fab project based on the farm where volunteers and Headway clients garden together using permaculture principles. A not so happy post: This is Wayd Gorby. I’m the guy that had the idea to plant sunflowers in our field to brighten our days for a few weeks. I had no intention of this becoming a “destination” open to the public. But, it just so happens that’s what we’ve become. I’m OK with it. And even though it’s a TON of work and expense, the light that this field shines has become something quite incredible. And we’re happy that it’s brought so much joy and a temporary escape for so many. But tonight, I’m a little disappointed. In fact, I’m pissed off. Somebody decided to drive in and tear up our yard and driveway while we were out this evening. Don’t know what would possess someone to do such a thing. And frankly don’t care. Just want whoever did this to know one thing. Even though it seems to be the popular thing to destroy things for fun, or even for a cause. And even though this will cost me some money and a lot of time and work. The light STILL shines here. This little sunflower field, as long as I’m alive and able to do it, will signify what should be. It will stand as a beacon of joy, happiness, and hope. A symbol of the good in all of us, even the person that decided to damage it tonight. I’m not going to tell you I’m happy about it. And I’m not going to tell you everything is fine. But I am going to tell you that you may have damaged our little fields looks, but you’ve done nothing to it’s spirit and I hope whatever you were trying to achieve by doing this was a success. Don’t Have a Compost Pile or Compost Bin “No Problem”, Just completed my In-Ground Composting. (Dig & Drop-composting): (click more) (1) Dig a 8 to 10 inch trench in your garden area (2) Gather all of your kitchen scraps and garden plant scraps. Make sure you add a mixture of nitrogen and carbon materials (3) add these materials to the trench and water 🚿 in well (4) add layer of fall leaves (5) water 🚿 in well again (6) cover soil back over trench area. CSA veg box week 11 It’s week 11 for our CSA veggie boxes. Crazy weather and mini flood at the walled garden, not much damage on the crops but it was a wild one to be out harvesting. Special thanks to @_lindsay_fulton for lending a much needed helping hand, I wouldn’t have done it without you 😊. In this weeks box spring onions, selection of tomatoes, potatoes (maincrop Record), cucumber, carrots, beetroots, lettuce head, lettuce leaf salad mix with purple and cinnamon basil, courgettes (green and yellow), green beans, chard, kohlrabi and chives are included. New this week are leek and bouquet garni (a bunch of herbs including sage, rosemary, parsley and oregano) – which can be used to prepare soup, stock, casseroles and various stews. Приехали мы на дачу с @mariakakmaria_official 😍 20 января вечер,и немного были в шоке,снега естественно у себя на участке не обнаружили,только грязюку😁 На утро решили посмотреть как и что происходит в наших «Угодьях»🏡 Воды в колодце было много⛲️,по сравнению с летом🤨 Весь участок в зеленой траве🌱🌿, для нас это было немножечко дико,ведь мы понимали что «зима в разгаре»,а у нас зелено-зелено🍀☘️. Мало того,мы ещё обнаружили что не только почки набухли у деревьев и кустов,у некоторых уже началось «весеннее обострение» а именно - мята в теплице начинает свою жизнь🌱(фото в карусели),представьте,мята в январе, в Подмосковье. Один из цветов🌺 (не помню название) уже прям начал распускать листочки свои. - We started out with one 8x8 raised bed and 2 old bushes beside the shed (and some mystery plants!). Now, we wait.

- A new set of compost bins nearly complete, 3 bays for different stages of compost and a large one for manure. These just need the rails added for the sliding fronts and then I can get on with getting the compost back in them. Feed your soil not your plants, and do it organically, Compost is amazing!
