It was our last day at our lake house rental. The girls and I were at the beach that we went to every day. I was putting sunscreen on my older daughter, and she wasn’t listening, or standing still. When I asked her what was going on, she started sobbing and told me that she missed her own bed and that she didn’t want to say that she missed her bed because she loved the lake but she missed her bed. Sobbing. It was Friday morning, we had the rental until Sunday, but I needed to go back home on Saturday for a private matter. I was hugging Zoe and making her feel better, telling her that we will be home soon. While all this was happening Abby was standing on the edge of the wall, as we all had done many times, talking to the ducks in the lake. She was no less than 5 feet away from me. I was watching her non-stop the whole time while I was also consoling Zoe. I watched her turn around. I watched her foot slip and miss her footing. Then I watched her fall off the wall, facing me, and drop into the lake. The lake isn’t deep there, but there are huge sharp and slippery rocks. I screamed, “ABBY!!!!” In the second it took me to get to her I thought, ‘she’s severely injured, she broke multiple bones, we’re going to the hospital.’ When I peered over the wall I saw her sitting there, crying and scared. I pulled her up and checked if she was injured, all the while saying, “You’re okay, you’re okay.” She had one scrape on her ribs and a bruise, that was it. She was fine. Once I realized that she was fine I held her close and started bawling hysterically. My older daughter, Zoe, asked, “Why are you crying? Is she hurt? Why are you crying, Mommy?” I explained that Abby was fine, but that I was so scared about what could have happened that I needed to cry about it. It was one of the scariest things that happened to us recently. Abby was fine, but we left the lake house that night, the next day was a rainy day anyway. We absolutely loved being at the lake house, it was a great vacation, but sometimes knowing it is time to go home is the right move too. - @hilariously_parenting on Instagram

Well its been a funny old year so far - Ill tell you about it sometime - but weve been pretty busy with a special project which could very well be a world first... Distilleries cool their stills with mains water. Its cheap and abundant...but wasteful. Our heated cooling water now preheats our hot water supply before being cooled by a natural pond which is packed with lillies, iris and water hawthorn. The water returns to the distillery to cool the stills once more, a closed loop system which reduces our water use by 85%. Great trip to the recycling plant today that has been processing the hundreds of thousands of cups that we used at water stations on our events in 2019. It’s important for us to be confident that we’re only using products that are market leading in their sustainability within the disposable cup industry - and today firmly reassured us of this!
