Most of y’all probably know this, but I spent a majority of the summer living out of my jeep and bopping across the states with @jackandersonyay. To sum it up, it was a sweeeet sweet 6 weeks of dirtbagging that I wouldn’t have wanted to experience with anyone else. And yo!! Hi. . It’s been a minute since I’ve written and posted here. We’re going on 4 weeks of quarantine and there’s still no routine at home, and there’s way too much screen time for Pia. But that’s not what this post is about. This one is about me. This post is about what I am trying to do as a human, as a spouse, as a mother and as a photographer. To address the latter, I recently sent out a newsletter to tell friends, colleagues and clients (past and present), about this personal IG series, and also to inform them that I am offering stop-motion and product photography services - something I’ve done over the last 8 years for select clients. My studio is around the block from our home and I can safely work there alone. It’s one thing I can put out into the universe to see if I can earn some income during these weird times. . At home, I put my head down and focus on tasks and things immediately in front of me. Things which I can control to some extent. Things like cooking, bills, reaching out to friends and doing virtual coffees, making the bed every morning, and documenting one self portrait at some point during the day. This is my way of saying I AM HERE. I am going through this and I AM OK. This is my way of saying I AM STRONG, yet I am exhausted. This is my way of saying I AM TERRIFIED but have faith. This is my way of saying I LIVED ANOTHER DAY, thank you universe. This is my way of saying I AM WEAK AT THE KNEES thinking of what is happening outside in the world. This is my way of saying I AM. . These are just a few of the 30-some self-portraits I have made so far. If i’m wearing glasses, I know it’s because I took the portrait early in the morning. Lack of glasses means I either took the photo during the day or at night before I went to bed. . You can tell from my hair when I washed it last. Smooth, almost flat means it’s been a day or two since I washed it. Wavy, fresh means I washed and dried my hair at some point that day. Glasses & wavy hair, however, means I just literally woke up and took a photo without even combing my hair. So that’s that. Ok here is a cute adorable story for your Tuesday evening !! I was shooting my girl Taylor and her Fiancé Alvin on the beach and I wanted to do some headshots of Tay. Alvin was standing behind me waiting for his turn after her and he saw in my view finder on my camera and saw ( 1st image) of his girl and freakkkked out!! I just heard him gasp a few times saying “Babeeee! Oh my gosh!! You are so beautiful!! I just saw the image on the camera!! Oh my gosh!!” *Gasping* and then *gasping* more! (Images 2-4) At this point I turned around and I just started snapping. His reaction of his future wife was the purest moment I’ve ever had shooting a couple!! He couldn’t stop putting his hand over his mouth because he saw it. His future wife captured in her rawest beauty! I will never forget this moment of my two favorites! Спонтанность данной съемки, не оставила никаких шансов на подготовку. Мы с @anna_sargs даже не успели определиться с вещами и образом в целом. Самое поразительное, что я даже не знал места куда мы едем. Поиск поля был больше похож на квест. Во-первых, бабушка которая дезориентировала нас со словами: «Ребятки, а тут рядом никаких полей нет». Во-вторых, дорога, ведущая в никуда и состоящая из чудом уцелевших бетонных плит, к слову изрядно избитых. Но, мы решили идти (ехать) до конца. И вот на горизонте появилось оно – поле, в самом конце разбитой дороги. Сплошные позитивные эмоции. Truly grateful to the @nppfscholars for seeing my work and to my radical surf sisters for letting me amplify their power for the world to see. . I don’t know Bob Baxter, but we seem to have the love for water in common. He was a photojournalist and a WWII Navy veteran. A swimming accident left him a paraplegic and he had to live in a hospital for 11 years. So, he became the hospital’s photography instructor and started this scholarship with his savings. . I got flashbacks of all the self-hate I was experiencing during that time, the loneliness I felt among friendships, and the heaviness of my limiting beliefs that relentlessly assumed I had to pretend to be happy just to be seen, protected, and loved. ⠀ ⠀ I’m still learning to send myself forgiveness for those times I believed less of myself, over-extended my graces, and deliberately chose to project a mask of happiness while experiencing pain. ⠀ ⠀ Today, I practice self-loving thoughts while exhaling joy to these memories. I am grateful I experienced these moments of being in front of the camera and the whole process that came with it. i have the habit of giving more than what i would ever get in return. i get too attached. too dependent. too much in love. and somehow i expect the same in return. when i dont get that, it hurts. it hurts a lot. i need to understand that not everyone is going to have the same heart as me and that not everyone is supposed to feel the same amount of love that i feel for them. its wrong of me to depend on someone else to make me feel loved and make me feel important. i need to make myself strong enough to not depend on anyone else. i need to love myself and only then i can expect to be loved by another person. at some point in life we all may have felt that we gave too much and didnt receive much in return. theres a difference between generous giving and over-giving. generous giving implies that you took care of your needs first and then put in energy towards others. however, over-giving means you keep giving and giving in hopes of being appreciated and being loved because maybe youve never felt loved and want to feel good about yourself. love is something that is worth fighting for but you cant be the only one fighting for it. it has to be a two-way effort. if you find yourself giving someone more than what theyre giving you, you need to leave them. you need to realize that your self worth does not lie in other peoples hands. youre a good person with a good heart even if other people dont value it. people who dont give you enough will realize later on at some point what they lost was irreplaceable. you lost someone who didnt love you enough but they lost someone who loved them beyond any boundaries. we all know which situation is worse. -Noor - @by.noorrr on Instagram

I turn 30 today and I’ve been reflecting a lot on what I’ve learned in my 20’s. Here are 20 things I would tell myself ten years ago. 1️⃣Don’t take yourself so seriously. 2️⃣Smile a lot - you’ll get cool laugh lines. 3️⃣Keep wearing your retainer, you’ll like having straight teeth later. 4️⃣It doesn’t matter how much you sleep, you’ll still have circles under your eyes. It doesn’t matter. 5️⃣When you turn 30 you’ll still feel like you’re 18, except life is way better now. 6️⃣Your faith will get you through some rough stuff - invest in your relationship with God ‘cause it will serve you later. 7️⃣Things don’t matter, people matter. 8️⃣You don’t know everything. 9️⃣In fact, you know basically nothing and that’s ok. 1️⃣0️⃣Have grace for yourself, have grace for other people. We’re all human. 1️⃣1️⃣Life is not about results, it’s about the process. What you learn along the way is more important than what happens at the end. 1️⃣2️⃣It’s ok to spend time alone. 1️⃣3️⃣Being a mom, wife, business owner, whateverrrr will NOT make you happy. Find your joy in who you ARE not what you DO. 1️⃣4️⃣Watch less tv, read more books. 1️⃣5️⃣Make friends with strangers. 1️⃣6️⃣Find a good therapist. 1️⃣7️⃣You are not the accumulation of your successes or failures. 1️⃣8️⃣Own your weird. 1️⃣9️⃣Choosing gratitude even in rough times will completely change how you see your life. 2️⃣0️⃣Life goes by quick. My friend Ida Barbarigo would’ve been 100 today. - - - She was born on August 26, 1920, but was often coy about her age. Even in her own books, she gave herself a different birthdate. Her art is also playful. She had a particular way of seeing the world. She expressed this new image in painting. Daily walks in Venice or Paris inspired her unique way of seeing. She explored public spaces with intense reflection and observation to create a personal worldview. That’s why, in celebration of her life, we chose to honor her with an exhibition of self-portraits now at Kanaal. - - - It’s interesting and complex to see the way she expressed herself throughout all of her long life. She was an elegant and cultured woman, belonging to intellectual Venice, part of a storied history and artistic family. Art was the essence of her being. Painting and life were inseparable. Even though, as a woman, everyone around her discouraged her from becoming an artist as a profession. She tried to resist, but fate took hold. She’s not always fully recognizable in her self-portraits although the strong spirit is always present. - - - In life, she had a desire to be as she “should be.” Although together with Daniela Ferretti, we were her close friends for years and we met countless times, “Ida never showed up without her well-combed hair, her perfectly-tied scarves, her wonderful perfume that flooded the space around her, and her unique way of combining ‘out of fashion’ items. She was an inventor of things.” She often painted based on feeling and not on seeing. In her most-well known work, she painted the chairs of Venice. The dozens of chairs in the city squares and terraces. She never described the perfectly painted object, but rather something beyond... inspired by people, conversation, and the energy of life. She was a painter of the unseen but richly observed. - - - Four works became part of the Tate Modern’s collection during her lifetime and this was the greatest gift I could’ve given her.
