Dear Off-Campus ESF Students, To comply with SUNY-wide and Syracuse University COVID-19 testing requirements, surveillance testing will be conducted this Thursday and Friday (Oct. 1 and Oct. 2) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Walters Hall, (view campus map at www.esf.edu/maps/documents/campus.pdf). This round of testing will be conducted on a subset of off-campus students. Off-campus students must sign up for a testing slot at this link: http://ow.ly/FNPz30rcFdi Note that students living in Centennial Hall will be receiving a separate message and sign-up link. To take advantage of these saliva swab testing options, please adhere to the following guidelines: Bring your ESF ID card with you. Wear a mask when arriving at the check-in center. Do NOT eat or drink—including water, gum, mints, lozenges, smoking, or smokeless tobacco products—for 30 minutes prior to arriving at the check-in center. Do NOT brush your teeth or use mouthwash for 3 hours prior to arriving at the check-in center. All ESF students who may need to use Syracuse University facilities this semester, including previous participants in testing conducted at SU or ESF, are required to be tested for COVID-19 on a schedule determined by Syracuse University in order to gain access to all SU facilities. There are also SUNY-wide standards for violators of COVID-19 safety protocols. Participation in regular surveillance testing assures compliance with SUNY and Syracuse University COVID-19 regulations. After participating in surveillance testing you may continue normal activities (with strict adherence to mask wearing and social distancing) unless you are subsequently contacted by ESF staff and notified of a positive test result. Testing results will continue to be communicated between ESF and Syracuse University. Negative COVID-19 test results are required for access to all SU facilities. This was a very strange day. I was deep in feeling. Revisiting old spots that I hadn’t seen for years. It felt familiar but with an undertone of science fiction. The park was full of families. But they were walking obediently around the lake in a designated direction due to Covid. Everything seems almost too beautiful. Ducks swimming in heart shaped circles. People fishing with little poles in the lake artificially stocked with trout. And on every bench a shiny brass memorial gleaming in the sun. I felt for a moment that maybe this was heaven. Today, we want to thank our Waste & Recycling Education Team for their role in helping track and catalog debris piles across the city. Their work, along with Salt Lake City Public Services Compliance officers, both of whom know Salt Lake City like no one else does, have allowed us to cover the entire city for the last two weeks. In time for school, 50 kids in the Bayshore area learned road safety and hand signals last month at a bike rodeo held by Neighbourhood Resource Officers. #Carfreestreets are fun! With various elements like a trampoline and a BMX track, Hälsingegatan street in Stockholm 🇸🇪 has recently turned into a huge playground and meeting point. Part of this #urbantransformation is the wooden module of the #streetmoves project (swipe to the second photo!). Inspired by San Francisco’s #parklets, this kit transforms parking spots into #publicspace. It consists of an expandable base plate with custom parts placed on top - from a parking lot for electric scooters 🛴, an outdoor gym 🏋️, a playground⚽️ to a #urbangarden 🌾, it can be flexibly adapted to the needs of its installation site. Story time :: 5 years ago today. Woke up at 4:30am in Rotterdam and ran the last 65km of 3,174km after starting in Barcelona 4 months earlier, to finish in Amsterdam. @sharon_koelewyn had flown over from the UK the night before to push me along, even after popping a blister in her shoe at 50km, she kept charging! What a machine 🙌🏻💪🏻 @iesstagram welcoming us at the end like the legend she is. Running across Europe got some attention that helped raise $16,000 for @artsaccessaust , the national peak body for arts and disability in Australia. What I respect A LOT about artists is that the do something about their ideas and go all-in. Anyone with that approach to anything, I get super excited around. Some of it comes from thinking a lot about death, mostly about what we might think about if we’re lucky enough to have the chance to reflect at the end. I just know I’ll be fuuuucking pissed if I didn’t go full-gas and all-in on everything I tried. No More Baby Steps - our children’s futures are at stake! While Covid-19 kept us at home, temperatures in the Arctic Circle exceeded 30 degrees Celsius for the first time. This morning we placed children’s shoes at the edge of the River Thames to remind local and national leaders that the lives of children and young people around the world, as well as future generations, are threatened by the climate and ecological crisis.
