As the granddaughter of immigrant grandparents on both sides, I was raised to love our country and the responsibilities that come with being an American, including voting. Dinner table conversations often included what was going on in the government, discussions of all sides of a debate and what it meant for our small-business-owning family in Butte, Montana. Elections were considered a big deal, and I remember going with my parents to vote, loving how important it felt to walk into the voting booth. In college I was a journalism/political science double major. I loved learning more about how our government works—from local to state to federal—and that my journalism training taught me to keep digging deeper and asking questions until I found the facts. In law school I studied how hard women, Blacks and Native Americans had to fight for the right to vote, and it increased my reverence for and commitment to making sure I never took my ability to cast my vote for granted. WHY MY LONG (and chipped) NAILS REMIND ME OF MY POTENT POWER 💅🏼⚡️🔮 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In the past, I alwaaays had super short nails that were always chipped...because whenever I got a manicure as soon as I could see and feel them peeling ever so slightly, I went into attack mode, picking and peeling them all off. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I always would admire peoples long nails and *wish* I could have long nails too. I tried my best to grow them, but they wouldnt grow. I just chalked it up to the fact that my nails couldnt grow long. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Then when I became certified in NLP, I learned a technique called the Swish Pattern, which installs choices for a new identity...and if youre familiar with the Logical Levels of Change (which we teach in-depth inside of our Certification), then you know once your Identity is transformed, it has a trickle down effect and therefore automagically changes your Values + Beliefs, Capabilities, Behaviors, and Environment. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I honestly thought it was a whole bunch of hocus pocus, so I decided to have fun with it and try the impossible. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I did the technique working on my nail picking habit, but didnt approach it from the *doing* but the *being*. Who would I be without this habit? Who was the version of me who didnt pick their nails and who had long nails? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ She was confidently sharing her craft, so tapped into her magic, and was head over heels with all aspects of her life. She didnt have any interest or desire to pick at her damn nails! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ After I finished the quick technique, I was like...Ok...cool...not sure anything changed. But then it did. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I had gotten a gel manicure that week and 3 MONTHS LATER, I still had the polish on! Yes, there were chips, but I wore them with pride because they were there and yet I did NOT pick at them. HI EVERYONE! I’ve gotten a lot of new followers this month so it seemed like it was time to reintroduce myself! Surgery is supposed to start at 7- he went back around 5:30 and I haven’t seen him since. Surgery will take two-three hours and then recovery will be 1-2 hours before he goes to his room. It was finally date night! It was during the early Quest days when date nights were few and far between, so I was so excited! I planned what I was going to wear, and had chosen a new top i’d bought and was surprising him with. Damn... he’s gonna lose his mind with how sexy I’ve dressed! But... nothing! Not a word! So half way through dinner I finally ask him... “Babe what do you think of my new top”. He looks me up and down... then shrugs! “Eh, it’s ok” EH???? My heartbroken self went quiet and somewhat offended. And of course he noticed! He proceeded to tell me that he never ever wants to lie to me even if it will make me feel good in the moment. We plan to be married FOREVER and so it needs to be built on 100% honesty and transparency. And so when I’m 90 years old and a bag of wrinkles, and I wake up with no make up on and he looks at me and tells me I’m beautiful, he needs those moments to carry WEIGHT. To not just be BS. He wanted me to know he is telling the truth. Ok the man knows how to phrase things right?? But the more I thought about it, the more I realized just HOW right he was! I never ever want to doubt or question his words and visa versa. From the big stuff to the tiny stuff like this! As long as we are ALWAYS respectful, kind and doing it in service of the other person, we agreed we would ALWAYS be honest with each other. No. Matter. What. And now it has just become my ethos in life. And not just in my relationship but in friendships and the way I lead as a boss. I value trust and honesty over wanting to feel good about myself. Hell I live in discomfort so often that I know I can handle it AND I know that actually that’s when amazing shit happens! Now the truth is not everyone actually wants this. Some would rather be lied to and made to feel better, than hear the truth and feel badly about themselves. And look… I GET IT! I really do! And if thats your jam then go for it! I’m embarrassed that people scream about their rights being infringed upon to wear a tiny little cloth covering, but assume it’s deserved when someone gets shot, as if there’s ever an instance when it’s deserved to be murdered. I’m straight up furious that we have children who are separated from their parents, and there’s a whole party who call themselves pro life and can actually say well I guess they should’nt have come here if they didn’t want their kids to be taken away from them. I’m appalled that a lot of those same people who are justifying separating children from their parents are the same ones I went on mission trips with when I was growing up. And I want to pull my hair out and scream when any person says there are no complications with pregnancies and that pregnancy cannot be life-threatening and therefore women should not have agency over their own bodies.
