Pride month has begun, which this year is quite different. Due to the virus outbreak, many Prides across the world have been cancelled, including Baltic Pride. However, we will have a small-scale mostly online event on 22-28 June in the form of Baltic Pride 2020: The Safe and Special Edition. ·· Pride can mean something different to each person, but the main reasons we hold it dear is because it brings the community together, it gives us the chance to make ourselves heard and visible, and it is a stand against injustice. ·· Pride didnt just appear out of nowhere and unfortunately the reason for its creation wasnt a happy one, although many Prides have by now become large celebrations. Pride was born out of a stand against violence committed against the LGBT+ community by the police. This, in turn, was happening with the approval or silent disregard of the society at large. ·· In 1969, LGBT+ people at the Stonewall Inn in New York fought back against police brutality. The incident grew into riots, uniting people who had been suffering an injustice their entire lives and who were carrying the traumas of past generations on their shoulders. ·· The Stonewall riots were led by black people and people of colour, such as Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, and Stormé DeLarverie, who protected their community and also actively fought for the rights and wellbeing of homeless people, people with AIDS, and other most vulnerable members of the LGBT+ community. Although our world is such in which white people reap the most benefits, these achievements are often ignited by others, the most vulnerable, and yet the most courageous. ·· Pride was a riot, Pride was an uprising. Lets remember this when we celebrate Pride and everything we have achieved. Lets remember this when we witness the events across the ocean as well as in our own backyards. Hours later, the United States dropped a second atomic bomb, this time on the Japanese city of Nagasaki. After several more days of behind-the-scenes negotiations and a failed coup détat, Emperor Hirohito gave a recorded radio address across the Empire on August 15. Today I wanted to cover STI preventing contraceptives !! (STI= Sexually transmitted Infections) When should you protect yourself from STIs when engaging in sex? ALWAYS unless you and your partner/s/ have been tested recently and both have the green light !! How often should you get tested? Once a year as long as situations stay the same , but youll have to be retested if you change or add partners! Dont have access to a doctor? You can get at home tests or there are some testing facilities that do flexible payments (pay what you can afford) Unsure how to bring up getting tested with a partner ? Try things like Oh I just realised weve never been tested before, would you be up for going this day? Theres a newer at home STI test did you want to try it with me Ive been wanting to get tested soon, whens the last time you got tested? Maybe we should go together !! What if you test positive? STIs are more frequent than you think, there is just still a negative stigma around them. Many STIs are treatable or with use of protection wont effect your sex life! If youve tested positive it is your duty to inform past partners that may be effected as well as any current partners or before engaging with future partners. Try saying something like “Do you have a minute to chat? I want to talk about my recent STI test, because the results may impact you.” Whether its a chronic STI that may effect someone for like or something thats been cured its still important to talk to our partners and make sure we are using proper protection, being open and non judgemental. We joined the polish queer community yesterday to demonstrate the queerphobic climate in Poland, after the arrests of 48 LGBTQ+ activists, protesters and bystanders last weekend. The group @stopbzdurom stopped a Van with fundamentalist, queerphobic banners on it, connecting queerness to pedophilia. They also hung a Prideflag on a Monument. Margot, a non binary activist, was arrested because of this. The activists trying to help her were met with police brutality and more arrests. This is a direct result of the election campaign of Andrzej Duda, who has said he would prohibit the “spread of queer ideology“. 1/3 of the country have declared themself “LGBT-Free Zones“. This open hatred of queer people is a huge step back in terms of acceptance for queer people and an open society as a whole. We cannot look away and must act now! Socially distanced in chalked hexagons, rebels from across the South of England staged a sit-in on the road, demanding that MPs back the Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill. If passed, this bill will see the creation of a Citizens’ Assembly to help decide an emergency strategy to: 1.
