When I first met Stuart Cornfeld I was very intimated. I’d heard they’d based Les Grossman in “Tropic Thunder” on him. Well it was a quick let-down when I didn’t get any kind of explosive outburst. Over the years Stuart produced several projects with me and Dan Schimpf. I learned so much from him and felt lucky for every day we spent working together. He was not, to my surprise, even remotely like Les Grossman or any stereotype of what you might imagine a Hollywood producer to be. He, along with Ben Stiller, fostered an infectiously creative, comfortable and loving environment at Red Hour Productions. He deeply loved films and art and spent an incredible lifetime making some of my favorites. Unbelievably smart and as authentic as you could be. I’m sure he would’ve hated this message. So I’m sorry Stuart for any sap. But it’s true. He was a legend. Thank you. Love you. RIP. We are thrilled to see George Rodriguez’s photograph “Chicano Moratorium, Boyle Heights” (1970) prominently featured in the @latimes article commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Chicano Moratorium. Fue profesor de castellano y periodista. Su producción literaria abarca diversos géneros: poesía, memoria, novela, ensayo, y, principalmente, ese género híbrido, fragmentario y residual que es el diario, a la manera de André Gide, Ernst Jünger, Julien Green o Luis Oyarzún, contando con más de cincuenta obras editadas. En 1949, publicó su primer libro de poemas Primer consejo a los arcángeles del viento. En el ámbito de su obra poética destacan El país jubiloso (1958), Isla de los bienaventurados (1973), Poemas para clavecín (1978) -con el que obtuvo el Premio Municipal de Santiago en 1979- y Música de cámara (1981), Una bujía a pleno sol (1998) Premio Municipal de Poesía y Santa María de los Ángeles (2001). Sua pesquisa acadêmica se dá na área da Estética na perspectiva filosófica de Friedrich Schiller e Immanuel Kant, debatendo o conceito do belo na música e na concepção artística. Seus principais professores foram Osvaldo Colarusso (harmonia e análise – Brasil) e Markus Amgwerd (regência – Suíça). “To be modern is not a fashion, it is a state”, said Le Corbusier. “It is necessary to understand history, and he who understands history knows how to find continuity between that which was, that which is, and that which will be”. The better part of a century has passed since the Swiss-French Le Corbusier (1887-1965), born Charles-Édouard Jeanneret, declared the above, and yet his legacy is such that his designs feel thoroughly contemporary. Arguably the most brilliant and controversial architect of the 20th century, he achieved colossal success in his field. Revered by architects the world over, Le Corbusier designed more than 300 buildings and wrote 24 books, he was also a keen writer, a theorist, sculptor, furniture designer, and painter. Why was Le Corbusier so groundbreaking? UNESCO has said his works are a “testimonial to the invention of a new architectural language that made a break with the past”. Most significant were his contributions to Modernism and the International Style, both a vast leap from architectural styles of the time. His designs rejected superfluous ornamentation (an early example of the Ludwig Mies van der Rohe phrase, ‘less is more’), and are characterized by their geometric forms, asymmetrical compositions, and horizontal planes with open floor plans. Other features of Modern architecture include the use of industrial materials—concrete, steel, and glass for natural light, as well as a tendency towards grey, white, or neutral color palettes. Le Corbusier’s views were shaped by important movements of the early 1900s, including Art Nouveau and the Bauhaus. Whatever project he worked on, be it private villas, mass social housing complexes, churches, or public monuments, his designs were always original. Today I am 4 years sober. I check in with myself and others, and I stay willing. Humility and patience are not easy for me, so it is critical that I stay connected and honest with others. I don’t have magic powers, and I am not promised tomorrow. But everything I do have today, I can experience and respond to in gratitude. Life continues to come at me from every angle. Sometimes I’m up, sometimes I’m down. But thank God, in all things I have hope. Posts like these aren’t for my well being as much as they are to encourage those who need what I have. Today is such an odd day for me. I’m not sad. I’m not angry but I am confused and stressed. I’m also thankful. Now if you can make that make sense please shoot me an email, text message, or DM. That would be great. 😆 Today I’m celebrating my 33rd Birthday in an empty apartment in Brooklyn NY. If I’m being honest I don’t really feel like celebrating because so much is wrong at the moment. ( at least in my mind) the world is in an odd space and it makes it hard for me to be excited about celebrating me. It just doesn’t feel right. In a non Covid world I would be out with friends right now at some bar/club living my entire life with some hilarious, passionate, loving, friends. That’s not what’s happening now. Now, I’m putting FedEx labels to boxes that will be shipped to California tomorrow. Because that’s where I’ll be at the end of the week. Now that I’ve got that out. I can say that i am thankful for my time here in New York City. I LOVE it. But my time here is up at the moment. I love the friends I’ve made here. A solid bunch I tell ya! I’ve learned so much about myself and I have grown. If that’s my lesson in this chapter of life then damn it, I’ll take it. Let’s move on. In closing I’m happy to be healthy. I’m happy to be alive. And, I’m happy that I got the chance to experience life in this way. A true legend was laid to rest yesterday... With great weight in every breath, I’ve struggled imagining this new world without him. His light, which may have been extinguished from his body, shines bright by his soul and lives through the story that is Jeff Metcalf. I can’t help but think about the final hug we ever shared, down to the very details of the hairs from his wool sweater, or the faint musk of cologne. Just that feeling of being held, with mutual hesitation in wanting to relinquish the embrace, very well knowing it may be the last... . “I love you”, were the last words I would ever hear from his voice through a phone. . “I love you too. I will call you back. I’m just picking you up some squid ink pasta to bring back from California” were the last I spoke to him. Food and love. The absolute helplessness I felt being hundreds of miles away, speaking through a phone pressed against the ear of an unresponsive body, but undoubtedly awakened mind- all I could ask of him was that he visit me in my dreams. Unable to reach him in time for his last breath on this earth, I was instead gifted the opportunity to hold his hand one final time, and marvel upon the vessel that once contained such a charitable heart and exquisitely radiant and brilliant mind. Dad... I live and laugh and love because of you. And I will cry and celebrate and endure in honor of you. Goodbye for now. دوستم علی اکبر دشتی خویدکی، که سالها پیش درگذشت، میگفت: خب، آدم با مردم دوست می شود دیگر! با خیلی ها... اما فقط با بعضی ها دوست میماند. یک جوری انگار زلفشان به هم گره میخورد... من و مسعود کیمیایی هم شصت سال پیش زلفمان - که آن موقع زلف داشتیم - به هم گره خورد و هر قدر سعی کردیم، باز نشد که نشد! هر قدر کارهای ناجور کردیم و حرفهای پرت و پلا زدیم، هر قدر آثار یکی در میان بیرمق و از سر سیری و بیحوصلگی ساختیم، هر قدر به خرابکاری ها و خود تخریبی هایمان بی اعتناء ماندیم و پوزخند زدیم، باز گره زلفمان باز نشد که نشد! سعی باد وباران زمانه و حسودان بیهمهچیز هم افاقهای نکرد! مزدوران دروغ باف متواری وخیل منقدین خشمگین هم کار چندانی نتوانستند صورت بدهند ودر پی هر سعایتی، در پاسخ گفتیم: حتی اگر هم راست بگوئی - اگر که! - باز همین جوری اش است که خوب است! که خوشم می آید! که رفیق خودم است و مال خودم است. و هر چه که مال خودم است حتماً خوب است! ما میراث بران و میراث گذاران دورانی پر حاصل بودیم که از ملک الشعرای بهار و علامهی قزوینی و نیما و هدایت و گلستان شروع می شد و مشعل همچنان روشن مانده اش تازه به ما رسیده بود و ما هم سعی می کردیم با پف های کم رمقمان آتش را افروخته نگاه داریم. مسعود کیمیائی اما از همان اول حواسش به درست پف کردن بود و حتماً نبوغ زیادی داشت که بعد از خشت و آئینهی گلستان، همراه با گاو مهرجویی، سینمای جدی ایران را پایه گذاشت، که در میان همهمهی سنت رایج و سلیقهی رکیک «فیلمفارسیِ» - که هنوز هم با سربلندی ادامه دارد! - کاری بود کارستان. همیشه دوستش داشتم که جنگجو بود و کوتاه نمیآمد و سر فیلم تنگسیر با امیر نادری کتککاری مفصلی در چایخانهی هتل اینترکنتیننتال کرده بود و اصلاً هم هنرمند سوسول و بیبته نبود. اهل عاشقی و فارغی! بود. فیلم باز بود و فورد و هاکز را دوست داشت و موسیقی باز بود و گیتار می زد و خوش لباس بود - و همچنان هست - و بر خلاف من، خوش لباس ماند و تیشرتهای سیاه بر تنش نپوسید! اسمش را از روی حسد یا خریت کسی نمی تواند از تاریخ بخش آبرومند سینمای ایران حذف کند. حتی خودش هم اگر سعی کند، نمی تواند! یک بار گله کرده بود که من خودش را دوست دارم، اما فیلم هایش را نه! بیربط می گوید، او هم مثل اغلب فیلمساز های پنجاه شصت سال گذشته ی ما، صحنههای درخشانی در فیلم هایش دارد: صحنهی گدایی مواد مخدر، قلدری و عجز متناوب بهروز وثوقی در مقابل گرشا، در گوزنها که یادمان هست. زلف گره خوردهی ما تا حالا که باز نشده. بعد هم لابد باز نمیشود! - @aghdashloo on Instagram

Mi Efra adorado, mi hermano mayor en la fotografía, mi maestro, mi amigo incondicional, hoy mi corazón está arrugado, triste, muy triste. Pero también muy agradecido por haber conocido a un hombre tan noble, sabio, con una energía tan bella y compartir tantos momentos especiales junto a mi querido amigo. Hace unos días hablé con el para saber cómo estaba, platicamos de cómo nos encontrábamos en ese punto de nuestro confinamiento, compartimos nuestro sentir y experiencias, me contó que seguía con mucho temor de salir de casa, pues veía que afuera las personas no se cuidaban, le dije que deseaba pronto visitar San Cristóbal para ir juntos el por su ristretto y yo por mi vermut. Después de platicar un buen rato, le animé por tercera vez a hacer videollamada para Virus de Amor, pues antes no había tenido ánimo, habíamos quedado para el 29 de septiembre que es cuando ambos podíamos y así cerrar el Virus de Amor con un retrato suyo, ya no dio tiempo, pero aún así, Efraín es parte de este Virus, porque su amor y energía que siempre transmitía daban paz, estar con el era un placer, nadie como él sabia escuchar y dar palabras oportunas y sabias, quienes lo conocieron saben de qué hablo. Hoy mi Efra se ha convertido en polvo de estrellas para desde el cielo seguirnos llenando con su luz tan bella. Efraín no solo será eterno y recordado por su trabajo fotográfico impecable, de eso no hay duda, deja una huella profunda en muchos corazones que lo amamos y admiramos como fotógrafo pero más como una gran ser humano. Beste Breaking Community in Deutschland. Hiermit möchte ich Euch mitteilen, dass Thomas Stark von den Battle Toys der Breaking Beauftragte des DTV (Deutsche Tanzsportverband) ist. Der DTV hatte vor einem Jahr noch kommuniziert, dass wenn wir uns organisieren würden, die gesamte Breaking Schiene auch von uns endemisch gewachsenen, kulturellen Repräsentanten des Tanzstils, verwaltet werden würde. Nachdem die Community im Januar 2020 in Dresden dann so schnell und so gut es ging, in aller Kürze tatsächlich einen Verband gründete und wirklich zuversichtlich auch an einem Treffen im Januar gut aufgestellt war, wurde der Verband in einer 4 Zeilen E-Mail ohne weitere Erklärung vom DTV als nicht Kooperationsfähig abgelehnt. Es folgten keine weiteren Begründungen. Natürlich hege ich seitdem starke Bedenken gegenüber dem DTV und bin froh über viele Kollegen aus der Szene, die weiterhin alles in ihren Möglichkeiten liegende versuchen, um einen selbstverwaltenden Governing-Body für Deutschland zu schaffen. Ich wünschte der WDSF Partner DTV würde sich an Ländern wie Dänemark, Österreich, Holland etc. orientieren in denen eine direkte Zusammenarbeit mit der lokalen Szene den Weg zu Olympia vorbereitet wird. Hierzulande wird meiner Meinung nach durch Über- und Hintergehung der gewachsenen Kultur natürlich als erstes einmal die gesamte Szene noch einmal mehr gespalten. Als reiche es nicht schon aus, das wir in unserer Community Olympia Befürworter und Gegner haben. Jetzt haben wir auch noch DTV Für- und Gegen-Sprecher innerhalb der Pro-Olympia Schiene. Beim derzeitigen Auftreten des DTV ist es aber auch kein Wunder, dass es starke, meiner Meinung nach gerechtfertigte, Gegenoffensiven gibt. Bei Fragen zum Thema Olympia hätte es eine anerkannte und fähige Gruppe von Leuten gegeben, die ihre bestehenden und angesehenen Positionen in der Community gerne, schnell und gut hätten nutzen können um das Potential innerhalb der Grenzen Deutschlands fördern zu können. Leider hat der DTV dies nicht erkannt. Der DTV sieht eher nur die Pilze an der Oberfläche, nicht aber das gesamte Rhizome. Bitte wendet Euch also bei offiziellen Fragen über Deutsche Olympia Politik an Thomas Stark. - @storm_serious on Instagram
