If you’ve been following my stories for the past week or so you’re well acquainted with my Spider Bite Saga (SBS). I appear to have been bitten by one on Sunday night. 8 days, 1 urgent care visit, 2 emergency room visits, 2 rounds of antibiotics (one effective, one not), and 1 MRSA with a side of lymphangitis diagnosis later - and I am today largely recovered. Now with a faint pink circle where my large angry orb has been. I share this because I had never experienced anything like this before and, while the infection was caught relatively early, I did wait 2 days to seek help. And, as many told me, things could have been much worse. Thank you to everyone who messaged and worried and advised and shared their experiences! Even those who scared me. Because being scared is what got me to the ER. Speaking of, thank you to the wonderful folks at @mountsinaimorningside who made my first-ever trip to the emergency room a pleasant-as-possible one. I probably had dreamt up what a New York City ER would look like during COVID. But that was all wrong. It was efficient, calm, socially-distanced, and attentive. Thank you to @alittlesliceofbeaven and @frankjrjrsays for fielding frantic 630 am texts, providing constant, “proof of life” check-ins, and looking at countless - and I mean countless - photos of my right arm, an appendage that will now return to photographic obscurity under sweaters. And MOST of all thanks to my babies, my team, my family. Who snuggled me through 8 days of rest, took it easy on short walks, and quietly assured me it will all be OK, even when I wasn’t sure it would. Being poisoned by a spider in NYC is a peak fall 2020 experience for sure, spooky season indeed. I’ll wear it proudly. But never again. Please.
