We have partnered with the Victorian Government on a $100 million economic support package to help re-activate the city. The funding will help extend outdoor trading, activate vacant shopfronts, and increase marketing, events, entertainment and activations. This will attract workers and visitors back to the city as COVID-19 restrictions lift. Week two of quarantine is nearly over and it feels very strange to be home, but not home. I’m staying at a friends beautiful house by the seaside, in a town I have never been to before, and it’s just beginning to dawn on me that when this is over, I’m not going back to Creaky Cottage, to Westport, to all that has been familiar and known to me for almost twenty years. I’m not good with feeling the feelings. I’ll do almost anything to push them away, so when I do allow myself to stop and think about this enormous move, it’s overwhelming. And so, I am losing myself in writing The Pleasure Palace, which I am loving. I’m working on a screenplay with my writing partner, which is far more fun than it has a right to be, and am spending huge amounts of time with Twin B, admiring this gorgeous view and longing to be settled into the new pad in London, surrounded by family and old friends. I miss Beloved (who arrives next month), and my kids, and my friends, and my home. And, I know this is exactly where I am supposed to be, and what I am supposed to be doing. It’s just, I think, that it’s been such a long long time since I made such a huge change. Oh, it’s scary! And exciting! And intimidating! And fun! And strange! And motivating! And most of all, life. This is what it’s about. Grabbing life with both hands, and living enough of a life in order to have something to write about. It was time for me to wake up. Traveling had opened up in Sweden again, and my fiancé and I have been traveling for 1,5 weeks now. I want to share tips on how we travel responsibly, both from a pandemic perspective as well as environmental. But first I shortly want to address my absence again. While I got the diagnosis burnout early this spring, I actually burned out April last year. And instead of taking time right away to heal, rest and get proper help I did what a lot of people do. I kept pushing myself, trying to keep going and hoping it would somehow magically heal by itself. Mental health is so goddamn important and once you get burned out you can never go back fully to what you were before. I should’ve known this as I burned out 4 years ago, but for some goddamn reason so many of us try to be so damn good and strong and keep doing more than what is realistic. I know it’s hard, but we all need to learn to give ourselves a break. Even though this stressful and efficiency driven capitalist society tells us that we’re only as good as our performance. I’m still not working atm, but after our vacation and when August starts, I will. But this time will be different. I’ll be working at my old job as an optician assistant to get financial steadiness for the first time in 4 years. The toll of constantly having to chase work to pay bills - which is hard when you have high standards of who you work with, and having up haggle up up a reasonable pay is stressful. So I will be working a steady job for a while and doing a few collaborations here when I want to. As always I will never compromise my values for money. I’m also slowly getting back onto social media, with a soft start of sharing pictures from my hiking vacation around Sweden with thoughts and tips as usual. But I will wait until after my vacation to start posting about heavy - but extremely important issues. Until then I will keep sharing others work. I know it’s a privilege for me to be able to take a break from discussing a lot of these issues, but to keep my mental health so I can keep doing important work for longer, I will need to ease into being back on social media. Sweet day out. I’ve not been on a lengthy ride out for 3 years maybe - and I’ve not had a bike for at least two years. So today was a nice little 192 mile jaunt via Newcastle, Newry, Castleblayney and up through Armagh and back to Belfast, avoiding the motorways. My eyes are tired through concentration and I will dream sweet dreams. Ireland, whether you are North or South is astoundingly beautiful and the road back from Castleblayney to Armagh is amazing. 4 years ago I never would have pictured myself giving everything up for 2 years to move to England to talk about religion... but 1 year after getting home I still find myself wanting to go back and continue helping the English find that little “thing” that has been missing from their life. Last night at around 10pm I got a text from Hannah to say her holiday at the beginning of September had been approved! I may of had a little dance around the house with Elmo my cat in my arms shouting were going to the Gower! 🏴 After months of wanting to go away we’ve never really got past the planning stage due to COVID restrictions and not knowing what’s going on with work. Hannah, my girlfriend, best friend and fellow adventurer has been super busy since her work opened back up, working 6 days a week and not coming home most nights til after 12. The eat out to help out scheme most certainly is working(thanks Rishi Sunak 🙄) but everyday at the moment is like a Christmas booking but worse! So please if your eating out to help out please be kind to the staff, she’s coming home exhausted and she’s doing her very best. Now we can look forward to four days in the Gower in September, some much need time to breathe, relax, explore and adventure together. Sydney is home to some of the best walking and running spots going around. So, we’ve narrowed it down to our top five as part of our Discover Sydney series. Whether you love taking a leisurely stroll or prefer to pick up the pace, take on one of these scenic routes with Team UTS at the City2Surf virtual run on 18 October. 🏃♂️ 1. The Bay Run, Iron Cove Looping under the Iron Cove Bridge in Drummoyne, this pleasingly flat track goes for about 7kms. Its a great spot if youre new to running or just want to go for a relaxing walk. Get refreshed and soak up the views of the bay at @haberfieldrowers. Their kiosk is open 7 days a week and they do brunch on weekends! 2. Parramatta Park to Olympic Park, Parramatta If you live out west, youll know all about Parramatta Lakes, so why not mix it up a little by following the Parramatta River towards Olympic Park? Follow the river for 8kms before arriving at some of Australias greatest sporting moments. 3. Sydney Park, St Peters An urban oasis in the inner west, Sydney Park has got to be one of Sydneys best kept secrets. Take in the rolling hills and secluded creeks whilst running or walking on this 5km track. Once youve finished, check out one of the picnic spots and take in the city views. 4. Wolli Creek National Park, Wolli Creek With an abundance of native plants and dense bushland that is home to some of Australias most beautiful wildlife, this track will make you feel one with nature. 5. Centennial Park, Sydney This sprawling inner-city urban space offers four different tracks that vary in length and landscape. This park is expansive and offers activities from horse riding to rollerblading, so youll never get bored on your run! Feeling active? NEW APARTMENT/LONG POST ALERT!!!! I moved into this spot a couple weeks ago and just settled in. When I moved to LA I lived in a 200 sq ft apartment (formerly a cleaning closet but converted to a room) and it was TOUGH. I had an “internship” for a label that didn’t pay me a dime the whole 1+ year I was there. It was to a point where I’d often eat leftover food from the artists once they left cause I couldn’t afford to buy food. My only income was working DoorDash during the day so I could work all night at the studio. I was just happy to pursue my dream in music. @thetaztaylor met me when I was throwing trash out at APG and saw my potential back way back in 2017. The only stipulation I had with Taz when he offered me a job was that he turn me into something more than just an assistant. Here I am less than 2 years later with more knowledge, experience and potential than I could’ve ever been presented by anyone else. This apartment is a new spot to live in but it symbolizes all the work I’ve put in and chances that were taken. November the 8th 2019, I woke up nervous as hell, knowing my life was about to incur a big change. Mum drove me to the hospital, @7am by my side the entire time, and I can not thank her enough. At roughly 10:30am, the procedure that has changed my life for the better occurred... I was so fortunate to be someone who has such a supportive mother, because without her I wouldn’t have been able to do what I needed to do, which was have a lapband surgery. Last year I encountered a strong load of trauma, causing me to gain almost 20kg in one month. This was extremely hard to come to terms with as it was essentially out of my control. I had briefly heard about this surgery and spoke to mum, due to her support I was fortunate enough to do this. My life style has completely changed. Since November the 8th I have now lost 19kg. I still have a while to go, but this surgery was not done for cosmetic reasons. I became a health risk, before you decide to judge me and tell me I’m lazy, I used to spend hours on end at the gym, I used to starve myself, I used to have a seriously unhealthy obsession with my diet, besides the trauma which was the main cause of the rapid weight gain, I was also unfortunately considered genetically obese, which is something that is also out of my control. I am more than grateful for this surgery has my mental health which if you know me, know has been one hell of a roller coaster, has been incredible, I have retrieved my confidence back and now have the healthiest relationship with food that I have ever had.
