In this day in 2016 I tried social distancing before it got trendy. 185km solo breakaway. When I think of the race I can still feel the cramps in my arms from riding 5 hours as aero as possible. In the end of the stage I preferred the uphill parts, because then only my legs hurt. The race was Tour de Gironde of Bordeaux wine region in south-west of France, and we won every stage and classification except for best local rider. The prizes were predominantly wine, and we split somewhere around 70 litres in between staff and riders. My suitcase was stuffed. Again on the move today @letourdefrance 🚀 Unfortunately we were only 2 riders in front the rest was scared by the sprinter teams 🤪. Had a different scenario in mind for todays stage. The chance was really small like that so after another 40km alone in front I gave up. In the end I was still feeling well and really motivated to do a good finale. A true star of the sport claims his first rainbow jersey today in Imola with an absolutely WORLD CLASS attack over the top of the final climb. The chase group was absolutely stacked with Wout, Kwiato, Hirschi, Primoz, and Fuglsang. In the end the chasing group couldn’t get synced enough to bring Alaphilippe back and the Frenchman claimed victory!
