- Found at Pompeii...Mt Vesuvius really had it out for this guy
La rocca di Cerere era solo una parte dell’area sacra, dato che il tempio era da individuarsi nel piano attualmente occupato dal Castello di Lombardia. I due spazi sacri erano collegati attraverso appositi percorsi, ricchi di edicole votive e sorgenti dacqua. Analoga caratteristica presentano alcuni spazi posti nelle zone sottostanti lo sperone roccioso, che dunque precedevano il raggiungimento della rocca di Cerere. Si trattava di aree preposte allo svolgimento di rituali da parte dei pellegrini che volevano raggiungere il tempio. Nell’odierna Contrada Santa Ninfa, su una parete calcarea, è possibile ammirare le edicole scavate nella superfice rocciosa, testimoni della caratterizzazione sacra dellintera area. A ulteriore conferma della presenza di una così grande area sacra interverrebbe un’epigrafe, oggi scomparsa, risalente al IV o III sec. a.C., recante una dedica alla dea Demeter degli ennesi. We adore this painting — a relative of Kyle Orlando’s works on paper and sketch book drawings but with paint & oils on canvas. “Overdue Video Tapes & Credit Card Scandal” (2020) is made with oil pencil, oil pastel, acrylic & spray paint on canvas and measures 30”h x 36”w. The composition is fantastic— from the layering of materials and barely there but very much there quality about it, to how he filled the space with a sprawling figure and a miniature one placed perfectly beside it. And then the color — it’s subtle yet impactful and the neutral pigments are lightly saturated and very appealing. After the coati walked by, Libélula appeared in the same location. This photo, one of our most recent of this female jaguar on the Northern Jaguar Reserve, was taken a month after she was seen together with the male El Guapo. We have been following Libélula’s tracks and trails for eight years. We are eager to see her again but realize it may not be soon if she is taking care of a new cub. Our team is motivated each and every day to make sure Libélula inhabits a place that is protected. She was named after the fierce aerial predator, the dragonfly. La Unidad de Patrimonio Comunal de la I. Municipalidad de Quintero, parte de la Red de Museos Región de Valparaíso, nos comparte información sobre el hallazgo de restos de palecamélidos en la Bahía de Quintero, los cuales fueron recuperados del fondo marino el 2012. Éstos corresponden principalmente a la extremidad anterior superior (húmero distal y radioulna), un cuarto carpiano y fragmentos de tibia, los cuales son comparables con los géneros Palaeolama y Hemiauchenia. Siendo estos camélidos extintos, posiblemente, los que precedieron a los actuales, donde se incluyen los guanacos. La prueba de carbono 14 a sedimentos orgánicos de la capa de arcilla y grava en la que estaban encapsulados, arrojó 13.600 años de antigüedad. Periodo que corresponde al fin de la úlltima era glacial. en la que grupos de humanos cazadores recolectores se dispersaban por América. Y aunque estos restos no presentan evidencia de intervención humana, si permiten conocer la ecología de los pastizales costeros donde habitaron los paleoindios, y donde probablemente cazaron paleocamélidos. Often the old methods are the best . . The Moors who ruled Andalucia for centuries were so skilled at their farming methods and their use of water. The Lecrin Valley is a landscape of terraced almonds and olives as a result . . This terracing means that when it rains (and when it rains in the valley, it RAINS!) the water doesn’t run straight off the hill, but forms build-ups along the terrace edges that soak into the earth, watering the trees around them. This system is further enhanced by the acequia system, which are networks of mountain irrigation channels (more on that soon!) . . As the almond orchard at our finca is on a natural sloping site we are looking into building up ‘terraces’ and using a permaculture swale system for the irrigation. Using the natural rainfall to irrigate the almonds will mean we will save water... such a precious commodity. And we won’t need ugly plastic pipes running all over the almond orchard! #CronicaDeAlla Hace unos años, coincidiendo con la publicación de nuestra edición #366, @CristinaGoto fue invitada a México, donde recorrió el DF (ya por entonces rebautizado CDMX), su Zona Rosa y sus pintorescos alrededores para traernos este pequeño relato, ilustrado con fotos de Silvia Bordoni (@TivyFoto): Asistí a la presentación internacional de la línea NH Collection Hotels América y me tocó hospedarme en la sucursal México City Reforma, donde me aficioné al omelette con flor de calabaza, nopal, espinaca y salsa roja que prepara Juan Vega Velázquez. A unos kilómetros de la ciudad me impactó la soledad de Teotihuacán: allí probé, en La Gruta, una especialidad de la cocina prehispánica: arracheras en fajitas al mezcal de gusano con jitomates. En Polanco, el restaurante Guzina me acercó lo mejor de Oaxaca (¡cómo olvidar ese mole negro!). La Casa Azul, de Frida y Diego, está en Coyoacán y me resultó encantadora con su refinada bohemia. Caminando por Colonia Roma descubrí a Rodrigo Carrasco, autor y alquimista: en Bowie, su cocina de humo eleva con paciencia y amor técnicas que están en nuestro ADN. Toma el humo como ingrediente y lo aplica según la materia prima protagonista. Hace, por ejemplo, uno vegetal en frío con la hojarasca de la remolacha, y a las truchas las ahuma con maderas embebidas en algas de río. “Selamat Pagi Bandung - Sambodo 2020 Halo Bandung ibukota Priangan. Sengaja datang ke Bandung semalam saja untuk mencari udara segar dan bersih Dago Atas, tepatnya di Tebing Karaton. Memotret dan menyapa kota Lembang di sebelah kiri kejauhan, lembah Maribaya di bawah, Cibodas di sebelah kanan dan Gunung Tangkuban Parahu di kejauhan. Tebing Karaton baru dibuka kembali 1 Juli 2020 lalu, setelah ditutup lama untuk mencegah penyebaran Covid19. Waktu bukanya juga masih dibatasi dari jam 08.00 sampai jam 16.00 wib dengan mendaftarkan diri melalui online Taman Hutan Raya (Tahura). Dengan batasan waktu buka yang kurang ideal untuk memotret saya memilih hanya jalan-jalan kecil di luar area Tebing Karaton dan mencari spot foto yang lebih tinggi. Untuk medapatkan informasi lebih banyak lagi saya ngobrol dengan Abah @abah_ase_sobana pengelola home stay dan warung sapuratina Tebing Karaton. Buat teman-teman yang hobi jalan lintas alam, jogging dan bersepeda di alam, lokasi sekitar Tebing Karaton bisa menjadi pilihan alternatif lokasi, Abah Ase Sobana bisa menjadi pemandu. Semoga Pemda Jawa Barat, Kang @ridwankamil bisa mempertimbangkan kembali jam waktu buka Tebing Karaton lebih awal dan lebih panjang karena jam 08.00 kabut yang menyelimuti lembah Maribaya sudah hilang. Sore hari tidak sempat melihat sunset yang indah melihat matahari menghilang dibalik dataran tinggi Lembang. january 2020 - volcan de fuego, guatemala - my main reason why i wanted to travel in guatemala, was to hike to a volcano and hopefully see some eruptions. in antigua - ~1/1,5 hours by car from guatemala city - there are about 12 agencies who offer hikes to volcano acatenango including spending the night in a base camp and watching directly on the active ‚volcan de fuego‘ nearby. but i read many comments in travel forums that it‘s a pretty tough hike, so at first i wasn‘t sure if i would even make it up there 🧐 i did it with a cool group of eight other adventurers from very different parts of the world - australia, austria, canada, germany, guatemala, south korea - and a guide, who does the hike about 80 times a year. that’s possibly why it felt like i lost about 5 liters of water per minute while he was walking up easily with two backpacks bigger than mine 😅. especially the first two hours were pretty tough - at least for me 🙃 - it went all up, very steep, bad terrain, not much to see, no breath to talk to others. later it got better with very impressive views, especially on inactive ‚volcan de agua‘ (2nd image). after around 5,5 hours we reached the base camp of volcano acatenango on 3750 meters above sea level. i was tired, but super happy i did it! from there we had a perfect view on volcan de fuego. the thundering noises of explosions and falling rocks reached us a few seconds later. our camp was equiped nicely to spend the night there: campfire, tents, sleeping bags, even a small toilette. we were pretty lucky with the weather. the sunset up in the clouds was just wonderful. the darker it got, the better visible was the yellow and red glowing lava thrown out of the volcano. every 5-10 minutes you could see some smaller or bigger eruptions. purest natural power! we could enjoy this spectacular view with some nice spaghettis, hot chocolate, red wine or even some ‚quetzalteca‘, a guatemalan liquor. that helped, as the temperature drops down to 0 degrees or even below the later it gets. an unforgettable experience and one of my travel highlights so far! will post also some videos of it soon. - @varabundo on Instagram

@svbadfish and I spent a night on a volcano. After we hiked to camp at about 12,000’, myself, two other hikers and a guide hiked within about 1,000’ of the summit of #volcándefuego , that’s the one erupting. We got back to camp at about 9:30 in the evening then woke up at 4 am and summited #Acatenango at 13,045’ and watched the sunrise with #Fuego erupting more or less constantly. It was an incredible experience.
