I got the mortises for the trestle table roughed in last night using my drill press and router. I used a forstner bit to remove the bulk material and then followed up with my router and a pattern bit to clean everything up to match my template. - I bought 200 bd ft+/_ rough sawn, weathered, barn boards (Midwest USA) for $300. The ones on the top of the pile were #2 white pine but they are all between 12” and 15” wide. Started sorting through this week for a project and discovered over half of it is clear Doug fir. Pretty happy.

I needed to remove about an 1/8 of an inch from this small part and had to brainstorm a safe way to hold it while cutting it with the table saw. I clamped two pieces of scrap to the sled and wedged the small piece between them. A lot of times the words “soft tissue management” are used. But what is exactly soft tissue management? How is that achieved? It can be defined as a workflow to create and shape an emergence profile seeking for better hygiene and a more natural looking aesthetics. In my workflow I divide it in 2 stages: 1 - soft tissue grafting to treat the ridge deficiencies and to create enough tissue volume to work with. 2 - Later on comes what I call prosthetic soft tissue management which is shaping the grafted tissue with provisionals. To establish the correct critical and subcritical contour is a well-known concept but it is not easy to deal with and it may differ from case to case.
