Quienes somos? Mi mamá se llama Elena, es quien los recibe casi siempre y quien ambienta el espacio. Yo me llamo Martina y soy quien está detrás de las redes sociales. Tenía un año cuando compramos un Ph a reciclar en Villa Devoto. Mi mamá tiró paredes, levanto otras, y refacciono cada rincón como una obra de arte. Ella es artista plástica y docente, le encanta reciclar, le gusta leer, y estudia escritura. Es de Sagitario, elige el color naranja y el helado de sambayón. Yo soy actriz, recientemente egresada de la EMAD y me formo en escuelas de teatro desde chiquita. Hoje deu saudades de escolher uma roupa para sair. Gosto do processo de entender que esse paletó encaixa com essa camiseta que encaixa com esse brinco que encaixa com o sapato (na minha cabeça, é claro). Nesse dia fiquei tão satisfeita comigo mesma que até tomei coragem para pedir para a @patricia_gomes10 fazer o registro (porque sempre ficava com vergonha de pedir e sempre fracassava fazendo a foto sozinha). Quem sabe com essa lembrança tomo coragem para pelo menos arrumar meu armário, que virou uma montanha de roupas esquecidas — o máximo de esforço que faço atualmente é trocar o pijama por uma roupa confortável para não ficar de pijama o dia todo... I went to the Mission for one school year in 1973/1974. I had just turned 6 years old. I lived with my grandmother on the Dog Creek reserve. We never had very much money, but somehow my granny managed to buy me a new outfit to go to the Mission school. I remember going to Robinson’s store and picking out a shiny orange shirt. It had string laced up in front, and was so bright and exciting – just like I felt to be going to school! When I got to the Mission, they stripped me, and took away my clothes, including the orange shirt! I never wore it again. I didn’t understand why they wouldn’t give it back to me, it was mine! The color orange has always reminded me of that and how my feelings didn’t matter, how no one cared and how I felt like I was worth nothing. All of us little children were crying and no one cared. I was 13.8 years old and in grade 8 when my son Jeremy was born. Because my grandmother and mother both attended residential school for 10 years each, I never knew what a parent was supposed to be like. With the help of my aunt, Agness Jack, I was able to raise my son and have him know me as his mother. I went to a treatment centre for healing when I was 27 and have been on this healing journey since then. I finally get it, that the feeling of worthlessness and insignificance, ingrained in me from my first day at the mission, affected the way I lived my life for many years. Even now, when I know nothing could be further than the truth, I still sometimes feel that I don’t matter. Even with all the work I’ve done! I have a hard time making commitments to myself. I’m way better at following through to commitments to other people. I’ve heard that it’s helpful for someone with this challenge to try to think about making commitments to the future self as if she is another person. . I tried. But then I began to think: this is bullshit. Future Josie is too abstract. But what about past Josie? Past Josie I can imagine. Past Josie has some substance... so I took inventory of all of the past versions of myself and I asked: what does she value? It turns out that the past version of myself who holds the values that I find to be most pertinent are the values of this little wild child. I’m guessing around age 5. She’s a pretty cool kid. I want to try to be the person she approves of. . She climbs a lot of trees. And plays in the mud. She has an elaborate imagination. She has memorized every word on every page of just about every Dr Seuss book. She likes exploring tide pools. When she doesn’t understand or needs help, she asks for it. She doesn’t care what people think of her. She laughs easily. . I’ve recently climbed a few trees. I still don’t mind getting dirty. I’m starting to recite poetry again. And though there aren’t any tide pools around here to explore, I can use my imagination to explore and find delight in the search. At times it is hard, but I’m also working asking when I need help, not caring too much what people think and laughing as much as possible. . Who is the past version of yourself that is the most true to who you are? What are you doing to make that past version of yourself proud? . È passato tanto tempo da queste foto ma non le avevo mai pubblicate. Il libro che vedete nell’ultima foto rientra sicuramente nella top 10 dei miei libri preferiti in assoluto. Ho avuto modo di rileggerlo in questa quarantena, e anche stavolta ho avuto modo di imparare qualcosa di nuovo. Forse certi dettagli vengono colti solo nel momento in cui abbiamo bisogno di essi. Per questo lo stesso libro riesce ad insegnarci sempre qualcosa di nuovo. Questa volta la parte sul “sapere aspettare” penso sia stata quella più illuminante, quella che ha saputo aiutarmi di più in un momento simile. “Fotografare le Emozioni” penso sia uno di quei libri che ogni artista debba tenere sul comodino, ti dà ispirazione, ti fa emozionare e ti insegna a come scattare: con il cuore. Vi invito tutti a comprarlo e leggerlo, anche perché all’interno trovate le fotografie stupende di Simone! One of the first houses we worked on was a wrecked home with the entire roof collapsed with nothing much left. The man living in the home had passed away but we got in touch with his brother with the help of his neighbors. When I called him I had to speak to him about whether or not he wanted us to completely demolish his home or not. He said, go ahead, I already took pictures. That got me thinking. All of the photos Ive taken represent a memory. Some good, some bad. But at the end of the day Im typically glad I experienced it. Even if they had a bad ending, theres always something to be learned. If theres a specific instance you recall on often Id love to hear about it... Do you have a specific instance you feel had a bad ending but ended up positively in the end? Thats confusing. Something that had a bad ending, but turned out okay? Does that track better? I feel that as humans we forget to let go of the bad experiences to let ourselves grow. Its important and easy to forget. You still have your life ahead of you, and whatever situation you find yourself in is more than likely not the end. Dont forget that. And if it is.. welp, we all have to go at some point.
