The project intends to create a digital archive of the monument in its state of occupation by civil society. Hours after the protest, government censorship prevented people from seeing the Angel of Independence by boarding it up and immediately working on its restoration, thus erasing all the claims against violence that were posted by women all over the monument. This work allows the words and actions of protest to remain in our collective memory. Working in a non covid hospital is keeping your guard on for all the pediatric, geriatric, surgical and immunodeficient patients, especially when were based in a rural set up where we were supplied PPEs super late. Weve been highly alert during the past six months. Or seven. Sorry, Ive lost count of time now. Even after being highly vigilant, we got patients feeding us with false history and hiding their symptoms at the stake of healths of skilled labor. Thats what we physicians are. Skilled laborers. Why do I say so? Well, the wave started with patients testing positive, unfurling the physicians, the staff and my colleagues as well. I had my roommate turn positive and I got symptoms even after being in isolation. I was ill for 20 days straight but thankfully tested negative twice. I resumed duty right after but I still see my colleagues turning positive every day, hell, even while youre reading this piece, one of our fellow physician wouldve turned positive. Still we work for the greater good, keeping our emotions, exams, anxieties, fear and families aside to the point of being indifferent. The world is moving on but our battle still continues, we just put on a happy face because such is life. Weve lived in so much uncertainty that were now prepared to face anything and everything. We cant just replace every fast fashion purchase with an ~eco~ alternative; we need to -ˏˋ buy less ˊˎ- New clothes require resources and energy, and inevitably create some waste; even those from ethical and sustainable brands! Unfortunately, the truth is that all the system change in the world wont allow us to consume at our current rates, because we live on a planet with finite resources. A report by @c40cities discussed the system changes and reduction in consumption that will be necessary to limit global warming to 1.5c. It states that we would each ideally buy a maximum of 3 new items of clothing per year. This report also recommends a fashion industry based mainly around recycling, upgrading, renting, and reuse of clothes, alongside a 75% reduction in supply chain waste. Its important to recognise that we cant just take the fast fashion mindset and apply it to ethical + sustainable brands. The opposite of fast fashion is slow fashion: consuming less, mending more, and wearing second hand. Its not just about what we buy, but also how much and how often. The LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize 2020 exhibition will open at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris, in Spring 2021. In the build-up to the exhibition, each finalist welcomes us into their studio as an extension of our LOEWE EN CASA series to further illuminate their stories and craft. Fanglu Lin (@linfanglu_lulu) is one of the 30 shortlisted artists with her piece SHE. Lins full studio tour is now available to watch on our IGTV channel. Employing the traditional techniques of tie-dyeing from the Bai minority group in Zhoucheng Village, Yunan, China, this immense wall installation was built over three months of repetitive and scrupulous knotting, stitching, folding and pleating of white cotton cloth into intricate patterns. This enveloping, cloud-like structure is Lin’s tribute to the Bai women and their continued use of this labour-intensive 1,000-year-old technique.
