This mini trip to Southern Utah didnt go too smoothly. Between small injuries, temporarily lost phones, forgetting essential items, and getting the car badly stuck, it was an interesting time. Buckskin Gulch has been on my bucket list for years as a fun looking full day outing in the world’s longest slot canyon. I’d originally booked 3 weeks of time off to attempt some more FKT or endurance challenge adventures in the Sierra currently, but my training and motivation kind of fell off with the 🔥 smoke this last month and it just felt out of place with the timing so I’ve been out now in the desert this week being humbled by a few new hearty adventures! PS the the gravy/chocolate cement consistency mud puddles were a new level of dirty on this one and I’ve done about a dozen slot canyons. a sweet little rocky camp just outside the bonneville salt flats. as we started up the dirt road, the temps were in the high 30s C (high 90s-low 100s F). with no AC, heat always creates urgency. we’ve dealt with it pretty well the whole pan-am by just heading for the mountains and higher elevations instead of spending too much time at the beach or on the coast. sometimes it’s unavoidable though. we found a rock, chucked nugget in the sliver of shade with tons of water (in his bowl and on his fur), and then sat watching the crazy tarantula hawk (wasp) get way too close to my toes till the sun went down enough to walk up a hill and appreciate the view. . . . #beoldlater #mitsubishi #delica #adventuremobile #vanlife #overland - @beoldlater on Instagram

The journey to my home town of Denver and visiting Morrison, Co., to show my friend one of my favorite venues to play, the glorious Red Rocks Amphitheater, was bittersweet for me; as it was the first time I’d been on-site, and wasn’t there to play a gig. Venues like Red Rocks and our local independent venues are at significant risk right now of never opening their doors again. Millions of people are out of work; union-supported health care is at risk of being terminated in some cases due to lack of funding; emergency resources and support systems are nearly depleted. Venues don’t qualify for PPP loans, and neither do many artists. The touring industry makes up more than half of the music industry’s revenue streams, and for most artists, more than 60% of our lively hood. I am sharing all of this with you because, in all of the reopening phases across this country, live music, events, and touring will be the very last phase-at 1/2 capacity- based upon how things play out in phases 1 and 2- even phase 3-of State reopenings. The lives and careers of so many people who make the concerts and festivals you enjoy a possibility have never been more uncertain than they are right now. So my plea to every one of you who are lovers of music and lovers of creative arts events, PLEASE do three things for all of us. 1: Support your local music venues by calling your State representatives, and ask that they pass both the Save Our Stages and Restart Acts to help keep your local independent venues alive (visit saveourstages.com for more info). 2: If you are financially able, please visit the link in our stories to donate to our friends @roadiesofcolorunited Go Fund Me they created to help bring some financial relief to concert personnel. 3: Visit; @masknowpartylater www.masknowpartylater.com and find out how you can do your part in helping us all get back on the road sooner, and keep our concert venues from disappearing altogether. Known by the Navajo as The place where water runs through rocks, The Antelope Canyon is a treasure chest of history and colour. It was our last travel just before the lockdown in March. To be able to stand by the sandstone walls and relive the journey of a gushing river is an unparalleled experience. Right at the entrance you are greeted with a sharp beam of the sun illuminating the dust and sand. We got only a glimpse but it was something else altogether. In the canyon at different angles you see different patterns and colours emerge. You look at a rock face then move back a foot and tilt your head, you see a new set altogether. The Navajo have different names given to the rocks as markers. A bear, an elephant or a bird are some of the animals you see in the rocks when you pay attention. The place is bustling with tourist and you are not allowed to bring a tripod so be prepared for that. The drive to Page from Las Vegas is amazing and we recommend you self drive and spend a night near or in the park. It is completely worth the experience. Estaba familiarizada con esta parte porque cuando trabajé en el Náutico me tocó venir en varias ocasiones. • Hoteles: Secrets Cap Cana, Eden Roc at Cap Cana, Santuary and TRS by Palladium, Hyatt Ziva & @hyattzilaracapcana y otros que están en construcción. • La vista desde el Farallón es hermosa y te permite ver Cap Cana desde otra perspectiva. • Cuenta con su espectacular campo de golf, Punta Espada, el cual ha sido considerado como el #1 en el Caribe y México. • Está Scape Park, donde puedes hacer actividades y dejarte enamorar del famoso Hoyo Azul. • Los Establos, donde está ubicado un centro ecuestre y por donde vi unas villas que me encantaría visitar más adelante. • Hace poco conocí el Lago Azul y pasé un rato muy agradable. • Playa Juanillo, una playa en la que se han vivido muchas experiencias para recordar. I’ve learned from experience to drive with my camera on my lap when I am going through wild places like National Parks. Luckily, when I heard “THERE’S BIGHORN SHEEP” from the passenger seat I was ready with my zoom lens. . . About 200-300 Bighorn Sheep call Joshua Tree National Park home. After looking into the animals in the park I think the herd we saw was J-Tree’s smallest herd, often seen near the Wonderland of Rocks. They were headed to the top of a rock pile and here you can see the large male Ram observe us from a boulder before following the rest of the group. . . . . Now You See Me, Now You Don’t starts with the idea of the humble puddle and notion that one person’s inconvenience may be another’s gift. Puddles by their nature are as accidental as they are evanescent. They are formed by gravity. According to the laws of physics falling rain and flowing water seek places of maximum inertia collecting and pooling to become, depending on climate and conditions, either an annoyance or a resource. In the Saudi desert where water is scarce. and in AlUla in particular where the rich aquifer has been largely depleted when water appears it takes on a near mystical significance. It is quite literally a life force, a fleeting presence whose imprint is immediately captured in the diversity of flora and fauna it awakens from long periods of dormancy. It is also temporary and, as the title of Manal AlDowayan’s installation suggests, the range of lifeforms, thoughts and ideas it may instigate can also disappear at any moment. But the puddles of Now You See Me, Now You Don’t are trampolines not water and the invitation to dip in a toe is here extended to include the entire body. To interact with them is tap into potential energy - to to defy gravity, experience weightless and be released from our dependence on the ground and what lies within it. By encouraging us to play with these ideas AlDowayan activates deeper and more resonant conversations around issues of climate change, water scarcity and inevitably - given the dark blackness of the pools - the idea that for the rest of the century and beyond it will be water not oil that shapes our global and political economies. Growth & Failure: Starting PT school, I was always the student who wanted everything to be perfect. My calendars had to be perfect, my notes had to be perfect (in my own way), my grades had to be perfect, my practical scores had to be perfect, and most importantly “I had to be perfect.” This mindset has made me incredibly focused on “getting it done”, rather than the journey and lessons I’ve learned along the way. Last month, @thelevelupinitiative reminded me of a valuable lesson: the growth mindset. We must value our failures. We learn from our mistakes and grow from them. One component of the growth mindset is being vulnerable and taking ownership. Today, I share some of my failures and some tips on how to look past these failures as a path to success. My failures: ❤️ my GPA only met the minimum during college & I didn’t feel good enough for PT school ❤️ I didn’t get the sports internship with the Dodgers ❤️ I didn’t get the clin rotation I applied for after that ❤️ my first day of clin rotation, a patient fell asleep on the table In life, we all fail. The hardest thing is to shift your mindset during these failures. Some of these lessons are what I’ve learned from thelevelup that really stuck with me. I hope these will help you take ownership of your failures, endure through them, and fail forward (not backwards). Be respectful to yourself and use loving language because what you tell yourself is more important than what others tell you. 1. Reflection – this is KEY! I love to reflect after every performance on areas I performed well on, and on areas I will need to improve on 2. Reframe your thoughts – I have started to practice a “YET” mindset. It’s not “ I didn’t get that sports internship.” It’s I didn’t get it YET. 3. Seek constructive feedback – seek for constructive feedback in almost everything you do! Learn to embrace it with open arms 4. Surround yourself – with people who are positive and optimistic to keep you going! It’s good for your soul 5. Had a great day helping @ashley_hawks2 set the new overall (male and female) supported FKT on the Virgin River Rim Trail (6:17:20) (50k, 4-5k vert, mostly above 9000ft) running from Strawberry Point to Woods Ranch. Spent all day crewing, running, biking, and playing in our local mountains. We train a lot on this trail and the finish is only 15 minutes from our house. Couldn’t think of a better way to spend my day and no better person to spend it with! Ashley is the most amazing women and continues to inspire me not only as a runner but as an outstanding mother, wife, and best friend! She is so tough and it showed today on a not so stellar day. I am a lucky man! The amazing thing about Bryce Canyon is this national park is open 24/7 so you can go stargazing 🔭 at night and hiking 🥾 during the day. They have plenty of hikes and things to do to keep you busy for a few days. We chose to go on this specific hike because of the view and the awesome switchbacks. • • • • For this specific hike you will want to park and start at sunset point 🌅 which is where Navajo loop starts. When you go down the path of Navajo loop you will see a sign that says and Wall Street. Once you see that sign turn right to start your hike and you will immediately see the switchbacks. y nos vamos al Parque Nacional Sierras de las Quijadas en la prov. de San Luis. Una de sus rutas de acceso al parque es🛣 RN N°147. Se encuentra al noroeste de la provincia y presenta a simple vista un paisaje desértico🏜. 📍Toponimia: Su nombre se debe a la cantidad de quijadas de vacunos encontradas por antiguos pobladores del lugar. 📚Historia: En esta región se ubicaban la comunidad Huarpe. Numerosos hornillos vestigios de los originarios se pueden ver en el parque (pozos cavados para cocinar la comida). También tienen protagonismo 🤠los gauchos de las quijadas que eran bandidos rurales que ante tal terreno podían esconderse luego de haber asaltado alguna carreta en los caminos cercanos por ellos se daba recompensa💰para encontrarlos. 🌏Geo: Hace millones de años existió en este lugar una laguna🏞. Se dio la posibilidad de saber esto por los fósiles de restos de plantas y animales encontrados en el lugar que tiene su gran interés paleontológico👨‍🔬 ya que podemos ver en el parque tras una larga caminata la huella de pisada de un dinosaurio🐾 que quedó plasmada. Es una zona semiárida con una vegetación de matorrales y bosques adaptados a la sequedad. Hay acantilados farallones y miradores naturales. La erosión 🌬ha tallado relieves en rocas y depresiones. Esta formada por areniscas de color rojo y los faldeos de las sierras descienden en forma de barrancas abruptas de 200 a 300 mtrs. de altura. Fauna: Puma, tortugas, cardenales, halcones, comesebo boquense, guanacos, gato montes, vizcachas, zorros. Flora: este ambiente de poca humedad exige a las plantas poseer hojas pequeñas o transformadas en espinas. Mother natures water park. Fairly easy canyon that can be done without a rope, unless you are afraid to jump off a 20-25 ft ledge at the end of the canyon. We saw a couple groups that decided to back track and ended up finishing about the same time we did, because of the one hour wait time for the jump. Holy smokes!!! The first two days of @pikespeakapex have been hectic!!! Stage 1/prologue was the first outing on my brand new @ridecannondale Scalpel!!! The bike was absolutely shredding in preride but unfortunately I didn’t have new bike day luck, putting a massive hole in my tire in the first 10 minutes. I ended up having to ride the next 40 minutes on the rim, losing 10 minutes in GC which was a bummer. Stage 2 was going to be an uphill battle (literally), seeing as I was starting in 80th place, over 3 min back. Managed to have a monster effort on the day and get up to 35th place and 40th overall. Another deer and elk capture season has come and gone so I cant help but reflect on the stories and memories generated these last couple months. The folks that make up our capture crew are some of the best people and I am grateful to be a part of the family. With everything we do in life there is a certain amount of risk associated, but life would be pretty boring if that was a deciding factor for the choices we make. Im constantly reminding myself of a Mark Twain quote I stumbled upon a couple years ago and is one I choose to live my life by.
