#weeklywork post is the final chapter in my collapsible core process. Picking up from Wednesdays post: Step 5: after demolding the epoxy bust and trimming it, determine where to separate it. This is the HARD part. If you get it right, you have a beautiful puzzle. If you get it wrong, it will lock. Careful considering of undercuts, how the pieces will fit together, where the blending edges are, and how much drag will be on your appliances when de-molding, etc... all are taken into account. Step 6: i mark with a pencil first, then pinstripe tape my cut line. Cut into two pieces, then I finished off the shoulder section with clay, sealed with crystal clear, and released with Frekote. Step 7: shoulders go back in that brush up mold, then I apply #epoxacoat surface, and THEN I press the other section in snug. This ensures a good surface beetween the two parts. After the surface cures. I follow that up with the regular layup from before. Step 8: open and clean it up when cured. Then I drill in some keys, as well as a bolt hole for later.. Honestly the keys probably arent needed since the nature of the cut basically makes it one giant key, but couldnt hurt. I release this generously with Frekote. Step 9: back in the mold in the opposite order, then same process as step 7. Step 10: drill the bolt hole from step 8 all the way through. Then de-mold, sand the seam and clean it up. Thats it! A very simplified version. Feel free to hit me up with any questions.
