Desde el día uno que se manifestó el primer caso de covid-19 en nuestro país me asignaron la responsabilidad de compradora de insumos médicos y críticos para afrontar y implementar todas las compras nesecarias para juntos batallar este virus. No hay título ni experiencia que nos pudo preparar ante esta situación pero con perseverancia, y dedicación puedo decir con firmeza que hoy nuestra mina @cobrepanama tiene no solo implementada todos los estándares y protocolos al 100% requeridos por el Minsa, pero construimos un laboratorio tipo 2 en 7 semanas, para aportar a la emergencia que afrontamos como país para que en un futuro podamos trabajar en conjunto a beneficio de nuestras comunidades y empleados para juntos vencer el covid-19. Como panameña, mi motivación más grande fue primero lograr la fluidez de insumos médicos no solo para que nuestra compañía pueda mantener nuestros estándares altos de seguridad, pero porque al día de hoy tengo más de 7,000 compañeros que permanecen con un contrato suspendido, y la economía de nuestro país tiene que fluir. It’s been a year since my sweet dad passed. I never shared fully on here because it feels sacred. So I’m sharing parts of the talk I gave at his funeral to honor him now. “A man who fought fiercely to preach the power and love of God and FAMILY. If you met him, he would hug you. No matter what you looked like, believed or even smelled like, it didn’t matter. He loved a good country song, his fine cowboy hats and a taste for the finer things... like his nice suits and always spoke of that Rols Royce with chinchilla seats that he’d get one day. He spent his life dedicating himself to the service of others. From the beginning of his time in the Vietnam War at the young age of 17 to the day he passed. He was always serving. Hundreds of families were blessed by his want to give to those in need. He taught us that you always have the Lord, you are never alone. And that the power of prayer is real. Never letting us leave a family gathering without holding hands in prayer together. He truly loved us all so much and would do anything for us. He gave us all he could and tried his best with what he knew how. He fought and forever faced the trauma of war and the demons that follow and tried his hardest to turn it around and give his life to the Lord. He wasn’t perfect, none of us are and we all make mistakes but I can say I know he loved the lord and his family and that’s what mattered to him most. I am heartbroken for what could have been for him and for what came. Cancer escalated his time here on earth and though we have differing beliefs, I know we will see him again. Fully restored to his true and healthy body. Free from pain and misery. I can see him smiling at me the way he always does and did on his last day here on earth, he couldn’t speak but I knew what he felt. I imagine him also hugging his mother, his brother, my sister Desiree, my baby Peyton and all those who have passed that we love so dearly. A beautiful reunion. “ Forever missing him. I wanted to do a bunch of my weekend sessions with only a 50mm lens but since my 50 was acting up I decided to rent one. I always rent from these guys and I have never had any issues with any of their lens or equipment. Unfortunately, the 50 that I ended up with was malfunctioning and almost all of my photos came out super overexposed (including this session.) Thankfully, I was able to save some of the images in Lightroom and make them look good in B&W. Since it was the weekend (CLOSED,) I notified the good people of @photorentalsource via e-mail and they promptly responded that same day. They did not hesitate to take care of me. Not only did they give me a refund, they also offered me another free weekend rental of my choosing. While they didnt have to do so, they went above and beyond to take care of me. For this, they will always have my support and business. When I met Frank and Jeanne at their home in Oregon, I was overcome with emotion by the love that surrounded me. Cherished memorabilia and family photos... Frank walked me through their house, proudly showing me bits and pieces of his remarkable life with his best friend and wife, Jeanne. Frank and Jeanne are in their mid-nineties... They had half an hour to grab what they could from their home before it was consumed by the fires. The home they planned to live out their lives in is now nothing more than ash and an old wood stove. I can’t even imagine how it must feel to lose a century’s worth of memorabilia. Frank and Jeanne always have a way of finding the light through the darkness, and I know they’re just happy to have each other, but it sure would be nice to help these two incredibly special people in any way possible. How can a support partner help mom during labor? Support people play a key role in mom’s confidence and wellbeing. Here are a few things you can do to make labor easier: 1. Take childbirth education classes. This will help you understand the process and what is happening to mom’s body. 2. Be mom’s advocate. Discuss the birth plan in advanced. Talk to your partner beforehand to learn how she feels about the different procedures (epidural, episiotomy, birth interventions, etc.) and what kind of support they want. 3. Show your support. Birth can be frightening. You are the best person to help mom regain confidence and get her back on track during her process. You know her better than anyone. Let her know she is doing a great job. 4. Make the occasion special. This is a unique experience in a woman’s life. A day she will remember for the rest of her time. Spoil her, show her your love, bring her flowers, find a special way to make this special day even better. 5. Don’t complain. Mom is going through a lot, so the last thing she wants to hear is complaints. Your sore back or boredom are not the priority at this stage. Be positive! Politicians are not our saviors. They are not saints. Rarely, they are good people with conviction for their beliefs. And a few times in an era, they can be prophets for an ideology that changes the discourse forever. Bernie Sanders - while not a perfect man, is a prophet for policies that value human life and dignity, that champion the marginalized, and that view government through the lens of empathy and compassion. His critics dismissed him as loud and uncompromising, but Ill remind every evangelical that shuttered at this Jewish mans Socialism that that is what prophets do. Theyre abrasive and loud because theyre trying to wake you up. You dont know youre in bondage until someone rattles the cage. Thats what Bernie was always trying to do: to wake up an already dissatisfied and disillusioned American electorate to the injustices levied against them - and, more importantly - against those around them. And I think, more than any politician in my lifetime, he succeeded. Bernie Sanders has paved the way for a fundamental shift in American politics. Before he ran in 2016, Universal Healthcare, A Green New Deal, Free College, a 15 dollar minimum wage, and aggressive campaign finance reform were all pie-in-the-sky ideas to a skeptical and out-of-touch Democratic party. He financed his campaign in a way never before seen in modern American politics. He was ahead of his time when he started his political career, and he is still ahead of the complacent moderate establishment he challenged with his run. Often, those who are ahead of their time do not see the triumph of their mission. Millions of people were ready for his movement, but millions of people were not. But this is not the end. Bernie is the John the Baptist of Progressive political revolution. The One who follows him will strengthen his movement and broaden his coalition and make good on the promise of an America for everyone. But The One is not the candidate who wins with this platform: it is everyone who continues fighting, who keeps writing and calling and campaigning for the movement, not the man. Some days I am thriving, feeling like nothing can stop me or slow my roll onto something great. I’m booking amazing sessions, my marriage is happy, nova and I are aligned, life is just thriving. Some days the battle against racism seems like impending doom, I can’t find people who value my passion or value it as I do. Some times I wonder when I’ll meet up with this version of myself again in the picture. Both are parts of my battle against what I do every single day. Both are beautiful, dreadful times of life that have to exist in order to move forward to progress and grow. But sometimes I do wonder if life will have similarities to who I was before this sweet kid. Before the pandemic. Grieving who you were and what role you are currently in is a real thing. And acceptance comes in flurries for me and stages. And being “mom” is such a magnificent role that I get to play. So yes most days I’m freaking yoked about being a part of this sweet kids life but other days I just want to have my career back, teaching seniors and thriving in that stage of life too. But they don’t align at this time and that’s another stage of acceptance I’m trudging through. Today in this moment my flutter of acceptance has settled and I’m grateful for soooo damn much. And today that means I don’t plug into the news, or stay on social media too long bc information is wonderful and liberating and can bring so much to the table. BUT if your table is too full, if your mental capacity is full, it IS okay to unplug. It is okay to grieve. It is okay to not love being a mom sometimes. It is okay to go backward in stages of acceptance. Hold your hand over your heart and tell yourself it is okay, you are okay, we will make it through. Thank you heart, thank you heart, thank you. We bare so much weight and responsibility that sometimes we forget to give ourselves the intimate grace of being still within yourself. Take a walk ma, look up at the clouds for a moment, go for a walk and don’t say a word. Meditate. Confieso que olvido los aniversarios de las muertes. Y cuando olvido es sin excepción. Mi vieja me recordó que ayer hizo dos años del fallecimiento de mi abuela Marina. Septiembre se empeña, al parecer, en alegrarme y arderme el alma con igual intensidad. Ese fue un día de mierda. Sonaba insistentemente mi teléfono. Eran las 6:00 am. Cuando el mar, el huso horario y miles de kilómetros es una separación física con los afectos, una llamada antes que amanezca nunca es una buena noticia. Solo llevaba una hora de sueño. Entre dormido alcancé a ver que era de Cuba, donde es una hora menos. Me negué por unos segundos a despertar y atender. Hola..., contesto tímido. Del otro lado nítidamente como nunca la comunicación, escucho: Kalo, soy tía Vicky. Es Marina... Se me desplomó todo. Solo atiné a gritar ¡Ay, PINGA!, del dolor y la impotencia. Había fallecido mi abuela (mi gran primer amor) en Cuba un par de horas antes. Mi único temor desde que vivo fuera de Cuba son estas noticias. Por más naturales y esperadas que sean nunca estás preparado. Yo no extraño Cuba porque la llevo a todos lados. El cielo en Buenos Aires es tan azul como el de La Habana. No hay mar pero esas callecitas de Buenos Aires tienen ese no sé qué.... No siento la lejanía porque aunque hace 10años que vivo a 7 mil km de la Isla, nunca me fui. Pero tiemblo y padezco esa lejanía física cuando caen estas llamadas. La impotencia de no estar en Holguín, entre los míos en ese instante para el dolor compartir, es poderosa. Mi relación con la muerte es inversamente proporcional a la vida. Más que el tiempo como una categoría duración/vida he aprendido a quedarme con las intensidades/vida compartidas. Quizás por eso me olvido de las fechas de los fallecimientos. Con mi abuela Marina tuve una relación de muchas intensidades desde mi nacimiento cuando, sin ser mi abuela de sangre, eligió cuidarme, mimarme y educarme con la potencia amorosa transferida a un primer nieto. - @kalofotoian on Instagram

Когда-нибудь в жизни думал ли я, что у меня будет русская жена, два сибирские кота и что буду писать на русском в блоге и учить русских английскому?! (ПОСТ ПИСАЛ БЕН) ⠀ Нет😛 ⠀ Наверное, самый удивительное из этих вещей - писать в блог! Я никогда не думал, что буду знать русский достаточно хорошо, чтобы писать более-менее нормально. Я думаю, что понимаю русский в уровне “американец, который не замерзнул в Сибири 5,5 лет и почти понял русскую душу”😂 Кстати всем, которые спросили меня за эти годы: “Как тебе зима у нас?”, у меня один ответ: я не из Маями, а из Миннесоты, зима у меня в душа😌 ⠀ Вторая по удивительность вещь - преподавание! Я учился русский в универе (но моя специальность была биология), и после конца учебы мне предложили преподавать английский в универе в Новосибирске. Я даже не знал, где это! И я загугловал и на Википедии написан, что он Чикаго Сибири. И я решил сам проверить😎 И в январе 2012 я приземлился в Новосибирск в -31. И так приключения начинался! ⠀ Третье по удивительности - русская жена. Я всегда знал, что я буду жениться, но сюрприз был, что жена моя русская. Мы с Ирой познакомились в марте 2012 в баре. Удивительно, что она была студентка в том же универе, где я работал! Но мы там не встретились. Мы сразу понимали друг друга, всегда смеялись вместе и у нее была самая главная вещь - стиралка😂Я жил в общага для преподавателей и там не был ее😭 ⠀ Я решил остаться в России с Ирой и нашел работу в частной школе английского. В Новосибе мы жили в четыре разные квартиры и нас выкинули из трех. И последний случай был в феврале, когда был -30. Вот где были настоящие приключения. Жизнь всегда была интересна в России. И не так сложно - Ира всегда помогала мне😊 ⠀ И самый не удивительный - наши коты. Кто мог отказаться от них?! Их обоих нашла знакомая Иры. Одного на улице и второго ее соседка выкинула вместе с другими котятами и сказала, что убьет, если не заберут💔 Мы пришли забирать только котенка, не знали о другой кот. Но второй кот сразу сел на мой ботинок - была судьба. Мы забрали обоих и потом увезли в США. ⠀ Думаю, все была судьба. А я даже не верю в судьбу особо😆 ⠀ P.S. Фото 2012 и 2020.
