An out-take with my boy from #saturdaynightpasta, who features heavily in the book. Forest arrived just before I started my self-care ritual. I joked (well half joked) that he was my therapy dog. We developed a special bond thanks to an accident that happened when he was a puppy – and ever since, has been glued to my side, hence his starring role in the book. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ At 10 months (3years ago), Forey had a freak stroke which left him completely paralysed. I was home alone and at 50kg, he was impossible to move. With the help of some close-by friends, we managed to carry him to the car and take him to the vet. He stayed in for 3 weeks, with movement slowly creeping back. I visited every day from 3pm till 10pm - the vet set us up in a room and I would lie down on the floor next to him working. TC was away in France for the duration, so it was a lonely time. By the time Forey did come home, he had regained movement in his front legs, but his back legs needed assistance. He spent the next 6 weeks in a harness that helped me lift and guide his back legs (heavy work!) - he was fully reliant on us to help him get around. We did intense therapy for him - underwater treadmill, acupuncture and hours of massage (thank-goodness for pet insurance) – we built a ramp in the house and lined our timber floors with the most awful carpet from bunnings to help him gripe. Eventually Forey regained all movement except for his back left - he has a limp and struggles downstairs but all in all, a pretty amazing recovery. Forey spent many nights on the kitchen floor, eating the off cuts of pasta and has been a constant companion for SNP. #Forest @plumbooks @macmillanaus @nik_to - @elizabethhewson on Instagram

You have no idea how happy this view is making me right now, Ive worked so hard on getting this hallway to where it is right now. Y A L L. I h o n e s t l y don’t feel like I have the words to adequately express the amount of genuine joy in my life right now. WHO YOU SURROUND YOURSELF WITH M A T T E R S 👏🏼 @rayhicks__ and @jamesdutton_ have both said something at our church gatherings that is so true... here in Nashville you can find people to cheer you on no matter what you’re doing. You can find people to party with and who bring out the worldly things in you; or you can find people who bring you closer to who God has called you to be. I moved to downtown Nashville (only 25 minutes further south than the place I was born and have lived my entire life) and it has completely changed my life. God has brought so many new people into my life and I’m truly overwhelmed with the level of blessed I feel. I was never the girl who had a lot of friends in school or even as a young adult. I’ve always felt it was hard for me to really connect and vibe with most people, so forming so many truly genuine relationships in the course of the past 3 weeks has been something I’ve never experienced and it’s honestly so overwhelming, in the best way. I’m about as stable as an Ikea table these days. I’ve laughed, worshipped, hugged, and cried (happy tears) more this past month than I have ever before. Life is filled with hills and valleys and, although this is definitely a high for me right now, the joy I get from these God given friendships is something I know I will have forever. Unlike money, careers, vacations, cars, hook ups, social status, alcohol, etc., God and the people He puts in your life are sacred and deserve to be treated as such. Time is so valuable, so to those of you who choose to spend your time with me, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You all have changed my life and mean the world to me.
