I was in a yoga class this morning and at the end, as we were laying in shavasana, our teacher began playing crystal sound bowls. - Now, quick pause - if you’ve never heard the sound that emanates from crystal sound bowls my sister @__elisenicole__ recently posted a video of her playing them and I highly recommend watching it! - Anyways, as he starts playing and just as I started to relax into the sound and the weight of my body being held up by the earth, these men start weed eating right outside the window of the studio. - OF COURSE, at first I was extremely annoyed. But after a few moments I cracked a little smile. “How poetic,” I remember thinking. - We always get to choose where our focus goes. And there are always a NUMBER of things for us to hone in on, or not. - Do I choose to focus on the chaos? The noise? The excruciating sound of the weed eater just outside? - Or do I choose to focus on what it is that’s bringing me peace? That’s bringing me joy? - When we ask ourselves these questions, we’re then able to recenter and refocus. Or not. There’s a Hawaiian word, mākia, that means “focused and sustained concentration.” We have the power to direct our focus, and through our mākia we can either create more chaos or more peace for ourselves. It’s also through mākia, our focused conscious awareness, that we create our realities and manifest our desires. - So, I had a choice to make in this moment. I could either - - a) continue to fuel the annoyance that was welling up inside of me, let my breathing become fast and shallow, and essentially ruin what was an otherwise amazing class - OR - b) use my mākia to focus on the beautiful music coming from those crystal bowls; to consciously refocus my attention on what was creating peace and joy in that moment - I chose option B. - And friends, this is a powerful practice! When we’re able to consciously direct where our attention flows, our world changes. - We become conscious observers, instead of autopilot responders, able to use the power of our mākia to create our reality. - What are you choosing to focus on? - Shoutout to weed eaters and crystal bowls for the reminder ✨ - #awareness - @taylor__henley on Instagram

These images are from “The Long HArd Road Out of Hell” Sessions, shot in my old pigeon poop infested studio on 26th street. It was a real rock and roll night filled with hard drugs and nudity, a very long long night ending long after the sun came up. I don’t know why but I have gotten Handsome naked in so many of our sessions. Lucky ME. I loved my time with Mr Handsome, I look back and feel a twitch. These images seem to fit the times we live in. 1of6 Olive’s labor was hard and long. Posterior with her hand up- a beautiful labor but long and hard. It taught me so much about myself and Olive. Coming from that and going into a new experience I had been working hard to renew my mind and cast off fear. The fear that it would be so long that it would be stop and start for days on end. Believing for something different. The biggest theme for Wells’ labor was SURRENDER. Surrender to the time line, to the labor waves, to the unknown and trust that my body knew what to do, Wells knew what to do and that God had ordained all of this long ago. “So I let go and I let love show me life like it’s supposed to be. An oasis it awaits me all the freedom I’ll ever need.” This was my anthem the last few weeks of pregnancy. I again found that the spiritual and emotional prep for labor was transformative. Beautiful how God has designed it. My labor would fall very close to Bryant’s biggest event of the year and timing Bryant being able to be there and my parents coming up from Texas felt like a lot for my pregnant heart. I had read about a lot about unassisted birth this time around even though we had a midwife, I was just intrigued. I had so many people with Olive, what if I did the opposite this time? What if it was just me bryant and my midwife? So we went for it. At this time a year ago, I was almost half way through a two-week trip up to the Highlands including Skye. The main goal of the trip was to do as much hiking as possible and to tick off a few Munros. The mountains of the Cuillin range on the Isle of Skye are considered the most spectacular and challenging in the UK. The only Munro that requires rock climbing to get to the summit is in this area. I ended up only doing one long hike on Skye as I was there during last years big heat wave. Id planned on doing 3-4 hikes, but on a couple of the days it was just too hot to hike. The one Munro in the Cuillins that I did tick off was Bruach na Frithe and its a year ago today that I was at its summit. Its not actually a particularly high mountain at an elevation of just 958 metres, but the terrain is rough and rocky and sometimes requires a bit of navigation. As is often the way in the Scottish and British mountains, the day started off sunny and clear but by the time I got to the summit, the clouds started coming in. I got a few views, but not of the full range of the Cuillins and all their summits. Of course about 30-45 minutes into my descent from the peak, the clouds lifted and there was a totally clear view of all the summits. Unfortunately by then I was too far down and on the wrong side of the mountain to be able to capture the view. Hi it’s me! I’m 17 weeks today and I’m embracing my body in all it’s pregnant glory. I have accepted that I am not a tiny pregnant girl, and that I blow up significantly during this time, with the help of all my artificial hormones. I have chosen to love my body for giving me this miracle and am going to try to not be so hard on myself. These images are from “The Long HArd Road Out of Hell” Sessions, shot in my old pigeon poop infested studio on 26th street. It was a real rock and roll night filled with hard drugs and nudity, a very long long night ending long after the sun came up.
