Recently a friend introduced me to the work of the filmmaker and documentarian Elija Hasan ( @elijah_hasan )who does a ton of great film work especially in Portland, so I learned from Elija’s Vimeo. Recommend you check it out now: https://vimeo.com/elijahhasan I am particularly interested in the clip from the film Darker Than Blue, which features interviews from ‘lice or former ‘lice officers who are black. The experiences they share are important to hear. Especially as we collectively push harder to eliminate yt suprmist presence in our area, especially in power positions like the ‘lice force, and around the country. In the clip, some of the people say they joined in order to change the force from with in. And it seems some did eventually take off the badge. Some say they stay because they know they are making a difference. And the image here is a message from protestors in Portland, Or, written on the wall of the in- justice center, taken with the Lubitel. Based on another poster, this is protesting developers wanting to build (another) luxury condo in the area, which is definitely a problem across the city while affordable housing remains elusive and homelessness, evictions, etc. are rising. We want to express our understanding and concern for the hugely difficult situation in which so many students find themselves after receiving their results this year. We understand the widespread upset and have listened to feedback from many schools and colleges about the individual situations of many students. We share the concern and sadness of so many parents and carers who have been unable to celebrate as they had hoped. We have already agreed, in relation to appealed results, that if your grades change by 7th September so that you meet our requirements, we will honour the place offered. The same will apply if your results change because of any other favourable upwards adjustment such as the move to use centre assessment grades (CAGs) as the basis of your award. Following the OfQual announcement, please note that we are unable to answer detailed questions via social media but we will support you as soon as possible once more details are confirmed by the Government and UCAS as to how the new process will work. Four years ago we had our first party at IPSE and hosted around 30 amazing events at what we call home. After parts of the club were burned down we didnt say much until now because we simply didnt know what to say. We still dont know if the club will be able to re-open and we still dont know what future holds for the club scene. Times are very weird, to say the least. But despite of all this and because of the fact that we want to do whatever we can we sat together with the Hallo Montag Crew, some of our closest dj friends and created a beautiful compilation to help the club. This morning, like so many, I posted a black square in support of Black Lives Matter. Upon further research and listening to black voices in the community I realized this action negatively impacted those very voices who I was trying to support. We don’t need silence, we need action. We need amplification and education. While I believe representation matters and it’s white peoples responsibility to support the black community, I believe this only works if we listen and learn from those voices so we can show support in ways that are the most meaningful, impactful and productive. I also believe it is our responsibility as allies to move forth with humility and admit when we are wrong. I believe I was wrong to post something this morning without doing the necessary research. In life education is everything and this is especially true now. So instead here’s a podcast, book, and film I highly recommend everyone listening to,reading and watching. These are just a few resources that have helped expand my world view and I hope they can do the same for y’all. For the first time in Milan, an immersive @shapeplatform showcase aiming to provide insights and fully present the work of Platform for Innovative Music and Audiovisual Art from Europe. The showcase will take place on September 26th from 3pm in the renovated spaces of @assabone , the new headquarters of Terraforma. The event will feature the video installation of @oli.xl and EMILIE PALMELUND in collaboration with 3hd, an interactive sound installation of Rian Treanor. The garden will be imbued by @_tadleeh_ ‘s tonalities during the afternoon, whilst our headquarters will host a SHAPE talk featuring members of the platform. I’m voting for the Biden-Harris ticket Joe Biden listens. His platform has shifted since he announced his candidacy because he understands the need to meet the moment, a moment that includes seemingly insurmountable challenges like COVID-19. THIS IS NO PANTOMIME is an urgent wake-up call. It’s about theatre and the communities it entertains. It’s about cancellation and closures. Without our government providing ongoing sector-specific support, we are witnessing the collapse of our world-leading culture industry. Built up over centuries, killed off in a matter of months. / Despite the government’s announcement that theatres can now re-open, indoor productions and live performances are just not financially viable whilst social distancing is in place. With Christmas on the horizon, and the majority of pantomimes also now cancelled, theatres will be falling desperately short of the revenue required to see them through 2021, and will soon be left facing even more redundancies and closures. / The impact on the 200 000 self-employed theatre workers is even more devastating: 33% have received no government support at all since lockdown began in March, and there are few prospects for work for the remainder of this year and long into 2021. Many of those doing the hundreds of jobs on our poster are leaving the industry right now, and these skills will take years to rebuild. / 34 million theatre tickets were sold in 2018. Around 3 million of those tickets were for a pantomime. It is too late for this year’s Dames and Sleeping Beauties.
