I used to think when I started this business I did so with nothing but stories. It’s taken a long time to realize that while technically that’s still true, I was coming to the table not only with the stories I wanted and was excited to tell, but a whole mess of stories I was telling myself. Maybe you know the ones I’m talking about. The ones that keep you small. The ones that keep you safe. The ones that play on loops and somehow find their way into every moment no matter how shiny, creative, and successful you are. The ones that you spent a lifetime subconsciously writing until they’ve intwined themselves so deeply within you, you can barely tell the difference between self and story. That’s why over the past years, unpacking and reframing the stories I tell myself as a business owner, creative, and HUMAN has become an internal part of how I run my business—in that, it’s literally the foundation on which everything stems. So how about we do a little reframing together on this Friday afternoon? This morning as I journaled, these four reframes rose to the surface. I’m beyond excited to finally share with you my finished typeface: Ascentis ✨ Ascentis falls in the realm of display typefaces, inspired by Neoclassical letterforms & sprinkled with a contemporary twist. The serifs and contrast between thick and thin strokes pay its respects to Neoclassical typography. Yet the experimental terminals and serifs offers a stinging sensation; while the intense, deep curvatures allows the letterforms to melt into their respective spaces. This fusion of sharp and smooth, historical and modern, creates an emphasized edge to Ascentis’ fluidity and unconventional character. Ascentis not only visually acknowledges the history of Typography, but also pushes the boundaries of what typographic conventions can be. This is my first typeface I’ve ever designed, but definitely not my last 💥 I want to extend a *huge* thank you to the one and only 🌻 @lynneyun 🌻 for being one of the best professors & always sharing positive energy and encouragement to push me into becoming the best designer that I can be 🙏 💌 Ascentis is available for licensing directly through me.
