- Started the final finish on the spinning wheel drive wheel. Magic Maple chemical stain. Ill do several applications of this, eventually adding a gypsum grain filler in between with sandpaper and steel wool knockback. Then maybe a color stain or just potassium permanganate.

Works by #CameronRowland are: #OutOfSight, 2020 19th-century slave iron, 19th-century slave iron with missing rattle 13.5 × 38 × 15 cm (5 ⅜ × 15 × 5 ⅞ inches), Irons with rattles built into their handles, called slave irons, were designed to be used by the enslaved working inside the plantation house to iron the laundry of the masters. While out of sight, the rattle audibly signaled to the master that the slave was working continuously. Removing the rattle was a refusal of this oversight. #Management, 2020 Time horn clock, Overseers, using the master’s clock, would sound a horn or bell to signal the start or stoppage of work across the miles of the plantation. Plantation time management was enforced through punishment. When we started building the studio, there were 2 big doug firs encroaching on the roof of the studio that had to be cut down. The trees were old and while there was a lot of good wood in them, apparently they weren’t suitable to sell for lumber and we were advised to discard them. We knew that we would need a lot of lumber for the finish work on the studio, and we worked it out that if we had a sawyer come out to the property with a portable mill and cut up the trees into rough lumber, it would be just a little more expensive than buying the lumber for the finish work. But for some reason it felt worth it. We ended up with way more lumber than we would need and all of it had to be cut to size and planed multiple times and it gave me so much respect for what goes into a board. After the finish work was done, I built all the acoustic treatment out of this excess wood and as I learn and as I’ve needed to add and change the treatments, I’ve gotten ever so slightly better at making things. I had never really built anything before starting the studio. I’m particularly proud of this batch. 12 new panels made starting with just 2 giant boards. They aren’t art but I like how clean they turned out! And I love that the sound is being treated inside the studio by the trees that had been growing just outside the studio. It really does add to the warmth and the magic of the place. - @ahamefule on Instagram
