Great athletic position 2. Raises heart rate/burns calories 3. Builds strength in functional way #2 - Suitcase KB Swing Use a lighter one (16 kg vs. 32 kg on regular KB swings). You can cheat sometimes with the regular KB swing but with suitcase, it is very difficult to cheat and use your lower back. Make sure that your arm without the KB follows the motion of the arm with KB. I have trouble sitting on my left hip and it helps me find that sensation by forcing me to load up. THREAD IT THROUGH! Another TRUE STORY and link up to yesterday’s post! I was re-setting my rope length on my reformer by grabbing both loops and this is what came out of it. I’m playing again in that pretzel position (switched legs from the post a week or so ago called LEVEL UP UNILATERAL) and I’m on 1 BLUE 🌀. Again it’s just me having a little fun and moving on my reformer. 1️⃣ “Thread it through” 2️⃣ “Thread it and extend it + tricep” On number 2️⃣ it feels great to add a bit of extension with the spring load coming from behind. I mention b/c you likely can’t see much of that in the clip on my body. Try linking all 5 of these moves from yesterday’s post and today & don’t forget to do the other side. Ankle sprains are one of the most common injuries seen in the athletic population, especially in sports involving a lot of jumping or quick changes in direction, such as basketball or tennis. 🏀🎾 Ankle sprains occur when you roll or twist your ankle awkwardly in a way that stretches or tears the surrounding ligaments or tendons (usually this is on the outside of the foot). _ _ Individuals who have poor ankle stability are more prone to suffering sprains or tears, as they are less able to control the quick changes in position of the ankle during dynamic movements. Thankfully both sensory feedback and muscle activation can be trained to improve stability with specific training!! 💪 Here are some single leg balance drills designed to improve proprioception, stability and strength around the ankle. Live to train, or train to live? This client suffered spinal injuries in multiple car accidents decades ago, and compensations to protect against pain left her with virtually no spinal mobility. Her last coach had her doing leg presses and bicep curls which left her feeling good about her body, but didn’t do much to prevent her from falling off ladders at work. These stretches are great for the biceps, as well as being able to open up your chest better. . . 1️⃣ The first stretch can be performed on a rig, in a doorway, or on the wall. Be sure to keep your chest up and use rotation from your trunk as leverage to create a stretch into the front of the shoulder and arm. . . 2️⃣ Same as the first stretch but with a band. This is all about personal preference but I find it is easier to get your body in a more comfortable position. . . 3️⃣ Using a band to bring your shoulder into extension with the elbow straight and forearm supinated (or palm out). Things that dont get a lot of emphasis in rehab that I think play a crucial role in the plan of care are coordination and rhythm. . Dica 1 - É fundamental treinar a parte neural do movimento, nesse vídeo o educativo a ser feito com elastico na barra e um caninho pvc , o trabalho é de elevar o quadril até a barra, com o movimento do braço empurrando para baixo tracionando o quadril para cima, contração do glúteo máximo e deixando braços e as pernas totalmente estendidas. Dica 2 - Aqui o trabalho já é dinâmico com a barra baixa e os pés apoiado no caixote. Movimentação de quadril próximo dos calcanhares e fazer a extensão das pernas elevando o quadril próximo a barra mantendo - o os braços estendidos. Dica 3 - Com o entendimento e aperfeiçoamento da movimentação do quadril, agora vem a parte da entrada. Com a extensão do quadril próximo a barra, faz-se uma cabeçada para frente elevando os ombros a frente da barra, mantendo os braços estendidos e pernas estendidas no final do movimento. Obs : vale lembrar que para que o movimento seja executado, tem que fazer trabalhos de força de braço ( tríceps e ombros ). Dica 4 - Agora vem a fase mais difícil do movimento - balanço ( hollow e arch position ) + jogada de quadril. Onde você vai gerar a máxima potência do quadril para aproximar da barra, com esse educativo, você precisara praticar bem, quanto mais consistente ficar, mais fácil será a entrada do BMU. One year ago, when I started my calisthenics journey, I could barely do one push-up and I wasn’t even remotely close to do a single pull-up. Yes I was pretty bad and I had zero confidence in myself 🙈 I decided to join @movementco after fully recovering from an open heart surgery. After months of feeling sick and getting treated like an old person, I wanted to take my life back and become strong and healthy. It hasn’t been easy though. I thought many times about quitting, because everyone else was better than me and I couldn’t even do basic exercises. I never gave up. I slowly started to get stronger, to nail my first pull-up and I begun to feel more confident. I was that confident that I attempted my first muscle-up in June. I failed, but I was still proud of myself because at least I had tried. Two months later I tried again. Yes I was shaking and it is painful to watch 😆 But I was super happy because I had gotten my first “shaky” muscle-up! And finally last week I nailed my first decent muscle-up 🙌🙌🙌 When I started my journey, I never thought I could have gone so far. A great way to teach the body to encourage a posterior pelvic tilt while simultaneously enhancing motor control & to engage lumbo pelvic hip stabilisers. Ive seen a lot of people do these terribly :) so here are 2 ways I like to teach clients to do it correctly & with tension in the right places! • ✅ Video #1: Deadbug with Stick Mobility. Push stick as hard as you can into wall, while retracting shoulders to floor (similar concept to squeezing fists). This will irradiate a full body contracting & generate surrounding muscle contractions & boy, it burns. 10 reps should be challenging enough! • ✅ Video #2: regression ➡️ static hold using a foam roller (can also do this by simply pushing into knees with hands). To teach someone what it feels like to engage more muscles in your anterior core. Knees at 90, flex toes up, brace core and push forearms into the roller, and push knees back towards you. Start by holding for 5-10 seconds! Are tight lats limiting your ability to reach and lift overhead? . . The latissimus dorsi muscle (AKA lats) is a large, flat muscle on the back that stretches to the sides behind the arm. . . This muscle mostly extends, adducts, and internally rotates the shoulder joint. It also may assist in lumbar spine extension and side bending. . . When this muscle becomes tight it is often difficult to reach and lift overhead which may cause difficulty with the snatch, jerk, and kipping motions for CrossFitters. . . Here are 3 great stretches that you can do to stretch your lats. . . 1️⃣ Childs pose. From a quadruped position on a fours sit your butt back onto your heels and reach as far out with your arms as possible. You should feel a stretch on the side of your trunk or rib cage. . . 2️⃣ Side Child Pose. Same as childs pose but now reach towards one side. You should feel a stretch on the opposite side. . . 3️⃣ Lat Stretch with a band. This is one of my favorites. Thread your wrist through a @rogue band that is attached overhead on a pull up bar. Be sure to start with tension on the band. Next sit your butt back and bring your arm overhead. Just welcomed my youngest client to date- my 9 year old son. ❤️ He wanted to come with me to work today and after seeing what he can do, he said he’d like to come back twice, no, just once, ok fine, twice a week from now on. 🤣 Real talk time. I’ve struggled to get my kids moving during this global pandemic. All their usual forms of exercise are unavailable- walking to and from school, sports, after school activities- and I promise, my kids are not more motivated to workout with me at the gym just because I’m a coach by profession. It’s a million degrees outside and public pools and playgrounds are closed. All my kids want to do is sit, sit and sit some more. Teaching kids about making healthy choices without projecting our own fears and shame onto them is a struggle I am NOT above. Especially when good outcomes seem scarce. Even so, I’d you love someone and want what’s best for them, whether it be your child who needs more exercise, a spouse who needs to quit smoking, or a family member who needs to lose weight, I promise you, they already know what they need to do better. They don’t need to hear how disappointed you are, to be shunned or excluded from treats or whatever, or to be reminded that their struggle makes your life harder. If you want to support someone you love in living a healthier lifestyle, tell them you love them. Show them they are worth more to you than their biggest weakness. Show them you value their health. And offer your support in any way you can. Bottom line: you can’t make anyone want to start or quit anything, but people who know they have the full support and encouragement from their loved ones are more likely to succeed. People who feel like they disappoint their loved ones have one less reason to do better. Love always wins. 🔸Hips and the Adductors! 🔸Strengthening and lengthening that groin area. .. 🔸The adductors can often get neglected in favour of the glutes when it comes to back, hip or knee pain but they are super important. . 🔸They originate from the pelvis attaching onto the inner thigh and act like bungee cords to decelerate stress to the Lower back and pelvis as we move from side to side such as in a golf swing, tennis or sudden changes in direction. They lengthen under tension. If they can’t do this effectively then this can lead to decreased performance or increased risk of injury. . 🔸This @stickmobility exercise works the adductors as they are lengthening. Tension and load is increased by driving through the stick. This helps us strengthen our adductors through their full range. The glutes work hard to control the position of the hips whist we add thoracic rotation and stretch out the spiral line. . 🔸we did this move tonight in our online stick class as part of a hip flow. Regular push up 2. Wide push up 3. Diamond push up 4. Alternating push up 5. Mountain climber push ups Each of these variations are difficult in their own way. You can also perform these on your knees to make them easier. Find the rep and set range which suits your ability. If some of these are too hard to control then start on your knees and build up to performing them on feet. 🔸Dissociation🔸 . In my opinion, having the control to dissociate one region of the body from another is super important. I have been playing around with different ways to work on dissociation a lot lately and these are two of my favorites for working on dissociating the trunk from the lower body. Thanks to @theperformancedoc for teaching me this half kneeling one. . Case example of a patient I have been using this on: baseball player who has right sided low back/posterior hip pain during his swing. After working on dissociation exercises followed by graded exposure to rotational movements/strengthening, he is now able to swing with little to no pain. . #20RBGpushups Justice Ginsburg famously worked out with her trainer Bryant Johnson two days a week since 1999. When her short stature was mocked once years ago, her late husband Marty came to her defense declaring, My wife can 20 pushups! Can YOU do 20 push-ups?!” To honor her we finished this morning’s TRX Sweat workout with 20 push-ups. I did mine on the straps since my wrist can’t handle them on the ground. I filmed another 20 afterward for this post and was too fatigued to stay under the anchor. You can see how I modified my later reps by reducing my angle to what I could handle in my state. RBG may have been in her late 80s, working long hours, and dealing with pancreatic cancer (for the 2nd time and also after beating colorectal cancer already), but she kept working out at an intensity that worked for her. May we all strive for the greatness we are all capable of. Thanks for fighting for ALL of us, Justice Ginsburg. ❤️💪🏿💪🏾💪🏽💪🏼💪🏻 Update: People are joining in!
