We all have an element of irreducible rascality as Alan Watts would say. We all have flaws in our character that our persona tries to supress. @jordan.b.peterson noted in one of his recent lectures that by denying the worst in ourselves, we preclude the possibility of the best. In other words, you cannot fully know good, unless youre aware of evil. A genuinely moral person is dangerous. They are capable of inflicting pain and suffering in the world—but choose not to. When one becomes aware that evil is as much in oneself as it is in the other, they are less likely to project it onto some scapegoat. All of this us vs. them mentality, further fuelled by social media, is tearing apart the fabric of society. Luckily, though, were more similar than we are different. Both biologically and morally speaking. Similarities aside, nature thrives diversity. Differing values, beliefs and ways of thinking are a integral to innovative thinking. Life did not get to where it is now via competition, we got here via cooperation. We can become a life-affirming force on planet Earth. Friday Reflection....what I did well this week? Training intensity was back this week after feeling pretty low on energy for the last couple of months while doing a gut protocol, got my macros everyday and I also got my journal back out after slacking off with it for the last few weeks. 💫 What I did not so well? Drank too many almond milk cappuccinos. Heaven in a cup! ☕️😋 Also didn’t hit my steps everyday this week. 💫 What are my wins? Miguel Braceli (@miguelbraceli) is a Baltimore-based multidisciplinary artist whose practice sits at the intersection between art, architecture, and education. From vast geopolitical geographies to more intimate connections on a human scale, his participatory constructions in public spaces explore notions of borders, migration, homelessness, national identity, and social-political conflicts. They aim for equity as matter to build and strive to reconfigure that substance into meaningful social connections. During my residency I will continue “Geopolitical Games”, a participatory project to enhance diversity and unity in the context of an electoral year, the movements for social justice, and the increasing political polarization in the U.S. We need to talk is a new chapter that aims to stimulate these values through conversations and playful interactions, promoting the dialogue and recording the different perspectives of a diverse group of people while playing a volleyball game. Charlotte, as a swing state city, has a special role in the political discussion. Our goal is to play these games in the arenas of UNC Charlotte—transforming its spaces into a battleground for democracy. In “Geopolitical Games” we approach a North American imaginary of deflated nationalisms, a national identity built through open play, and political systems sustained in a citizen exchange. This project builds the idea of a nation from the exchange of our own bodies, trying to keep the ball in the air and the game alive. PURIST MAGAZINE PART 1 ✒️Remember that art is process, the journey is always the only arrival. I thank Julia Cameron for that wisdom and reminder. It’s the closest way of words that can describe my relationship to my work. The lives that I have had the privilege to witness through my art are living breathing entities that grow, changes and teach. After all transitions give room for vulnerability. We grieve loss and we celebrate birth along this winding path of complex human emotions. It’s such a testament to life and what makes it so fragile and beautiful. My entire life is embedded in all I do, it’s the only way I know how to create. Each image is a reflection of my own story. These photographs are a glimpse of that sacred space. It is with pure joy that I am sharing this heartfelt project that I did for the July issue of Purist Magazine. I am deeply thankful for the relationships that trusted me and allowed me to share this. There is not a moment that goes by without that gratitude. It’s a complicated fragile time in this country and I have found that healing is never something we do completely in solitude. Our wounds are our courage, our brokenness is also our light. It took me a long time to truly lean into that process. Don, Loved capturing all these images. You are a beautiful brave soul that continues to educate and inspire me. Thank you for being so humble and brilliant at the same time. We need you. This was my face 12 hours before everything fell apart. . Before @slyguyryty and I left on a trip to escape what for me is the oppressive inaccessibility of NYC, we made a pact: . “We have no expectations. No matter what happens we will not be disappointed.” . This is how disabled people have to live everyday, by the way. We know a barrier could derail plans at any moment. This would often be avoidable if society was built with disabled people in mind, but that’s for another post. . So, cut to a half-day later where I can sense my insides coiling like tiny pythons. Something is wrong. . I have less than 1% sensation below my chest. I can only observe my body react to pain that I cannot feel. If I see involuntary spasms or goosebumps, I know something is up. But whether my appendix has just exploded, or I have a stomach ache, I cannot know, at least not until it’s too late. Only then do I hit the ER so an expensive magical machine with X-Ray vision can tell me what my body can’t. . So, I’ve learned to take action as if it’s an emergency. . We were headed home when my paralyzed-style alarms appeared, telling me to observe my body. I luckily found an accessible bathroom quickly. . As I waited for my internal jury to take its sweet time deliberating, Ryan stood by, patiently waiting. And while he stood there, I hated my body. . It’s not fair to him, I thought. He doesn’t deserve this. His body doesn’t do this. . After nothing eventful happened, I concluded that the alarm was just a fire drill, and we left. . I confessed the shame I was feeling, and he urged me to let go of my ableist self-deprecating thoughts. . My relationship with my body is complicated. It’s a miracle, a gift. It is also unpredictable, and sometimes I feel shame at how I must manage it, and the impact that has on others. . This shame comes from a world that says bodies with needs are burdens. But that’s not true. I just haven’t disentangled all of those stories in the 6 short years I’ve been paralyzed. It takes practice. Give. Focus more on the performance than the applause. I find myself like majority of the people looking at my notifications multiple times when I share on my feed. I came to notice during this process I was wanting more than I was actually receiving. This left me very ungrateful and non appreciative of what has been bestowed upon me. The problem with demanding is that you don’t always receive. The upside about service is there is always enough to give. We live in a society were everyone is always wanting. I believe thats what leads us to forms of depression, jealousy, discontent. On the other hand when we have a heart for service we produce joy, selflessness and gratefulness. 2019. Best year of my life. Proud of renovating an entire floor of a new building for my school @danhamillperformancecoachingau growing an awesome team and home for our students to soar. Joined my new music fam @rutherfordentertainment who I love and shot 4 music videos with them, went to LA and got a kickass manager, got my fitness CONSISTENT and found my routine, really went to town on anything that was not serving me emotionally and patterns and beliefs that were holding me back, nurtured a beautiful relationship and amazing friendships, galvanised a stronger backbone in life and business and after watching a @stylebender interview post fight decided to not dull my shine for anyone. Made peace that people will like and not like me and that’s really ok because I reaaallllyyy do and invested in education in business to go the next level. Sounds shiney as haha but in truth there were tears, doubts, wins, huge fears, growth and a hell of a lot of play!
