We share our home city of Girona with over 100 of the world’s professional riders; all of them choosing to set their roots in the Catalan capital city for the same reasons we did so many years ago. Nowadays though, we find our purpose by riding within the cities walls rather than outside of them. Our design studio is based in Girona, and our Designer, Victoria, is based a short journey away in Barcelona. So, when it came to the design considerations for our latest CHPT3 Brompton, there was only one place to look to: “Getting around the city, were constantly in awe of the architecture. From the shape of the stone walls and the buildings, the stairs, the streets… it’s amazing. WOMENS (BIKE) HISTORY: 3 DAYS, 5 WOMEN, 250 MILES #TBT by Carolyn Szczepanski Decades before AIDS Rides, Critical Mass, Tweed Rides and more, five women embarked on a group ride from New York City to Washington, D.C. during Easter weekend in 1928. Yes, 1928! These five New Yorkers — Marylou Jackson, Velma Jackson, Ethyl Miller, Leolya Nelson and Constance White — biked 250 miles over three days. On the first day of their ride, they biked 110 miles to Philadelphia. The second day, they biked 40 miles to Wilmington, Delaware. The third and final day, they biked more than 100 miles, arriving in Washington, D.C. around 9pm. Once in D.C., they did some sightseeing around the National Mall and @howard1867. They also took time to have the above photograph taken. I love how they sit so confidently on their bicycles, resplendent in their leather jackets, caps, bloomers and stylish socks. When asked what motivated them to embark on the group ride, they responded that they were motivated by “the love of the great-out-of-doors” that each of them cherished. Interestingly, they also challenged other young women, 21 years old and older, to replicate their trip in less time. What are we to make of this challenge, the professed love for “outdoor” culture and the trip, in general? And what was happening in 1928 that provides a context for the ride? Attention Members: We would firstly like to say a big thank you to all our members who have been using the club, as well as a massive welcome to any new members who may have recently joined us. We are genuinely thankful to everyone for adapting to the new safety measures here at the club. Unfortunately however, in accordance with new government guidelines under Phase 3 Restrictions all indoor group fitness classes are now prohibited until further notice. The good news is we have 33 outdoor fitness classes starting in our Sandyford location. As well as another 38 live stream fitness classes that will broadcast from our Donnybrook location weekly. In addition we will be launching Raw On Demand fitness classes over the coming days, which will have another 30 fitness classes on demand, 20 gym workouts and over 100 exercises to keep you busy. Dont forget we also offer all our members a personalised gym training program. This program can be tailored to whatever your fitness needs may be and can even include some of your favourite moves from our classes. @ridetodc was by far the most beautiful experience of my life From the moment I approached @anafrocanlove to help her organize the event I knew it was going to be something special. It honestly exceeded all of my expectations. Seeing how it impacted all of our riders made my complete exhaustion worth it. I needed some time to recover from the mental drain and today I’m finally starting to feel like myself. Our success was rooted in the foundation of what we rode for, the existence and significance of black lives. That core idea helped us become a family and was why we were able to come together and build a real community. We never left anyone behind, we rode 304 miles together and I’m proud as fuck of every single one of you who did it There were plenty of stressful moments, even a few of moments of doubt and straight panic. But seeing everyone’s faces filled with smiles, seeing their hearts filled with joy kept me going. If there’s one thing I know about myself it’s that I love helping people. Doing whatever it took to get you all to finish line made it all worth it when we finally rode through DC and made it Lincoln Memorial. The energy as we walked up those steps was something I’ve never experienced in my life and I don’t think I ever will. Shoutout to all my fellow leaders who were equally drained during this trip. We all biked side by side with our riders while still taking care of business in the background. We had to stay up later than everyone else and wake up before them. Tensions may have gotten high but no one ever complained, we just did it. I love you all so much. Shoutout to our pod leaders, mechanics, and medics you all did an amazing job and were absolutely essential to making this journey a success. Thank you for rising up and taking care of everyone. By my count, its Day 200 since the first big shutdown in Denmark, when I began keeping my journal. One of the biggest barriers weve run into while operating a COVID-conscious bike shop is space. Square footage seems to shrink when everyone has a 6ft bubble around them. It was early on in the pandemic when we realized that if we were going to follow CDC guidelines, we actually dont have enough shop space to operate at the same capacity prior to social distancing. We simply dont have enough room for all of the mechanics we need. Thats where our friends at Kerr Bikes have done us a huge favor in providing access to their east side bike rental shop during the days they are closed. WE MADE IT ACROSS THE DESERT ALIVE ! We spent seven days riding our bikes through the desert 🌵 with temps hitting over the 100 degree mark, a total of 420 miles and actual vultures on the side of the road . Fueled by PBJ’s, water, @clifbar @maurten_official and nightly ice baths and a blast from the @hyperice gun to get ready for the next day. I’m so thankful that we are able to pay it forward. With your help we will be refurbishing a safe place @bridgetoskate for the kids to skate and to be kids. @skatelite will support the project and @keenramps will be doing the repairs. I’m not a very good mechanic, but I’m a helluva tinkering enthusiast. All of my greatest ideas have come while sitting in a camp chair in my garage sipping on bourbon and looking at my bikes. In these times of enlightenment I’ve conjured up many variations of each one. It’s not uncommon that these ideas start to take the shape of me piecing together random parts I have lying around my used parts bin. I tinker and tinker until the wee hours of the morning. Sip. Tinker. Sip. Tinker. In the morning I’m often left with a good idea poorly executed and a mild hangover. In these times it’s good to have a LBS that can rectify any wrongdoings without being to scornful to the offender In my case @aggielandcycling has been fixing my late night tinkering sessions for many years. Last week a handy crew at Outride anchor donor Specialized’s Salt Lake City warehouse pulled together the bike build for Glendale Middle School. The volunteer team built up 50 Specialized bikes for Glendale’s Riding for Focus students — one of the 44 new schools awarded a grant this past May.    Andrew Love, Brand Security, Investigations & Global Enforcement for Specialized, coordinated the task and details. The bikes were built up and delivered on the same day. The volunteer team was comprised of Specialized employees, Glendale teachers, and Andrew Love and his family.     Andrew shared insight into why his entire family attended the event: “This Outride build day is a donation in memory of my wife’s father, Loredano Poletti. Lore passed away from Parkinson’s 2 years ago. Kids are heading back to school -- that means bikes are too! While this school year comes with a lot of adjustments, bikes are still being delivered and kids will still learn to ride! As of August 31, 2020, 220 schools have received the Kindergaten PE Program in 35 states.
