We should be fighting for the agency to determine how the economy of cannabis serves us and not the other way around. Its been excruciating to witness states and municipalities STRUGGLE to figure out how to atone for and reconcile the utter devastation that the disproportionate enforcement of marijuana laws in our communities caused. It’s a simple riddle: replace what you stole, and with interest. Lets help them out by showing up and demanding our due. Cannabis tax revenue remains misused, and in many cases unaccounted for. This is the case in Portland and in Oregon, but my home state is not alone in this. Where there was once an excuse that there exist no funds for reparations, there is now a multimillion soon-to-be trillion dollar industry. And how poetic is it that the cash crop that slaves cultivated to make this country rich should be the crop that this country utilizes to enrich their descendants? I’m calling for the first 25% (minimum) of all cannabis tax revenue (local and state) to be used for reparations for black and indigenous communities in the United States. We all should be. Every citizen of the US. If there was ever a time to fight for a tangible, actionable, focused, and reasonable solution, it is now. It is this. Looking for something to do? FLOOD your state reps and cannabis regulators with demands for a tithe to health equity for victimized communities of the war on drugs. Name your minimum. Tag your mayor, governor, reps, and commissioners. As restaurants have progressed from takeout and delivery to outdoor dining and, finally, indoor dining, we are faced with the fact that the new normal looks nothing like the old normal. Ensuring our guests have a good dining experience has gotten a whole lot more complicated. Where previously, restaurants focused on menu, service and ambiance, we now also have to deliver on new levels of cleanliness, social distancing, and monitoring the health of both staff and guests. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that most people like to know what their image is going to look like when they take a photo. Many people just starting out in their photography journey don’t think too much about exposure levels or light contrast ratios, and that’s perfectly alright. I suggest learning composition and framing to start. Focus on capturing awesome moments! However the more you learn about photography, the more it becomes apparent that being able to control the light is what makes a master. The true manipulators of light have a couple of worthwhile tools in their belt, and a light meter may just be the most important one.
