Tre Profile Pics

Can you believe that the complex maze of mangrove islands that make up the Ten Thousands Islands in southwest Florida all began with a red mangrove seed, known as a propagule? These torpedo-shaped seeds will fall into the water from the tree once they grow long enough and will begin to float. Eventually, the propagule will become too heavy to float and its root-sprouting end will sink to the soil. Once stuck in the soil, the seed will begin to root in this location, beginning a mangrove island. The process repeats and either enlarges the mangrove island or the propagule floats away to begin a new one. The propagule is a good reminder that although something may start out small, it can grow large and grand. Cute lil casual pic of me greeting Tim after work the other day. I like to be put together with a full face of makeup and hair when he gets home so he knows what he has been missing. This day I did glam myself because I feel guilty having the squad here with covid still popping off. You can’t be too safe. Anyway, Asher insisted upon the hat and blue pants even tho it didn’t match my outfit. He’s got me wrapped around his little fat finger. “Pattern clashing is in! Only basic bitches are into matchy matchy Mom” he yelled to me from his high horse chair thing. I mean he’s right, clashing is a good look but he’s also wrong. The youth have so much to learn! One of the most important parts of a reforestation project is community education and technical support. I will be attempting my first 70 mile+ run!! And it will be zero-low waste! (Swipe for route!) These photos were taken before fracturing my ankle. At the time I was running 10-15 miles a day and my injury was sustained a few months before what would have been my first ultra—the Grand Canyon ultra—a 171 mile race. The injury took me out of that race and I continued to suffer numerous setbacks due to re-injuries from loading on the miles too quick, poor nutrition and trying to keep up with all the other runners in my training group that I normally outpaced. I couldn’t let go of my ego—mentally I was the 10 mile a day runner but physically I could not perform that. Fast forward some years, add in weight gain which led to gait and stride change, more injuries, I gave up ultra distances altogether—I thought that it was a dream that I would never reach. But the real problem was that running lost its joy to me—I practiced meditative running at the height of my running career, and after my injury it became increasingly hard to reach flow and that runners high we all chase with each session—I was unable to breakthrough the unrealistic expectations I had placed on myself. Running was no longer a joy, it became a chore. But now, with the help of my running coach of over 2 years @hawaiirunninglab I am proud to say that the ultra dream is still alive! I may not be as fast as the girl in the picture, nor will I have a podium finish, but I plan to finish on my own two feet. I plan to finish injury free. And I plan to finish with the lowest possible impact to the environment. It will be 31 hours and 15 minutes of my mind, body, and feet. Not a triumph, but a marriage of these elements that I have unnaturally divorced. I will use my stories for updates of this journey if you want to follow along! - @duranmc on Instagram

A little less flexible than wool, but a chance to reinvent it. I might keep it going & see what happens... In the 19th century and early 20th century, electrical cable was often insulated using cloth, rubber or paper. Plastic materials are generally used today Cables are insulated in plastic by passing it through an extruder. An insulator is a material which doesn’t allow electricity to pass through it. Harvest processions have preserved some of the most authentic pre-christian beliefs in most of rural Europe. ⁣ ⁣ This time of the year, after all, was perhaps one of the most important times of the year: crops and grains can be harvested and stored for the winter. ⁣ And special thanks can be given to the powers and forces who made nature fertile.⁣ ⁣ Contrary to the widespread opinion that after Christianization, no pre-christian customs and traditions survived and continued, there is evidence that this may have been far from true.⁣ ⁣ Anthropologist Sir James Frazer, for example, noted the widespread belief in a ‘Mother of corn, barley or wheat’ throughout rural Europe. This spirit was venerated, respected and given offerings to after the very last sheaf of the year. ⁣ ⁣ Another scholar, perhaps one of the most important German scholars on Germanic pagan beliefs, Wilhelm Mannhardt, wrote several studies, papers and books on surviving pre-christian beliefs among rural farmers and pastoralists. It is here, he emphasized, that many pagan beliefs survived and continued. ⁣ ⁣ Rather, some beliefs existed parallel, others were recontextualized, in other words, modified into the Christian worldview. Others hybridized with the Christian worldview while they still retained their pagan elements. Mannhardt for example noted the many customs and folklore regarding trees, fields and crops in rural Germany. ⁣ ⁣ After the harvest is done there are certain animals associated with the grains, e.g. the goat and the strawbear (Strohbär, Roggenbär, Reisigbär). These animals were believed to have been spirits of the crops, responsible for renewal of the crops, and to multiply the harvest. They were given offerings.⁣ ⁣ In northern Bavaria, for example, the strawbear was symbolically killed by cutting the straw off with a knife. Upon the bears or the goats death, it was believed that renewal of nature can be restored, winter be banished and the soil made fertile. ⁣ ⁣ There is anecdotal reference, pointing toward a ritual where the people dressed as the animal in order to revive the soil in spring. ⁣ - @thewickedgriffin on Instagram

We started by having lunch 🥙 at our second home @juicygreensboston ... the food was made with much love ❤️ we then walked to the arboretum which is right down the street, what a beautiful gem 💎... the kids decided to chase squirrels and climb on trees 🐵 while the baby soaked all the sun 🌞... My soul couldn’t stop worshipping our all mighty God for having so much mercy on me and allowing me to be in this path with my little kids. I told the boys that God knew right from the beginning our purpose in life and that now more than ever my purpose on earth is so much clear. My purpose is to nurture them and give my family the best of me. It makes me happy to have days like yesterday. At the end of the day, we had a fire 🔥 and we each shared something that we were grateful for and my little manny said he was grateful that God chose him out so many to be born into our family and be part of the lowney crew. If you know my story, how I grew up then you know that God is faithful, and he always deliver. I am a true, living testimony of God’s promises. Cantó con el arpista y compositor Juan Vicente Torrealba e Ignacio Ventura Figueredo, El indio Figueredo; con quien grabó las composiciones siguientes: El gabán y La verdolaga.
