58 years ago tonight, Deputy United States Marshals operating under the authority of the White House and enforcing a court order from the Supreme Court, stood their ground on the steps of the Lyceum on the campus of Ole Miss facing off against more than 3,000 protestors. As a result of their actions, James Meredith, a Black United States Air Force veteran, was able to exercise his civil rights, enrolling in the previously all-white university. While the Marshals enforce the ruling using only tears gas, the mob threw bricks, bottles, and rocks ath the deputies and fired guns in their direction, defacing the facade of the building, injuring multiple deputies, and nearly killing one deputy from Indiana. Additionally, two individuals not associated with the Deputies were killed by members of the mob. Throwback to Berts article in Ironworks Magazine about Helical vs. Straight Cut Gears- In my youth I was fascinated with my Erector Set. The nuts, bolts, beams, plates, wheels, pulleys, axles and motors included in the Erector Set kit allowed me to construct anything my imagination could cipher. Legos never really did it for me because the snap-together plastic components were for sissies. Erector Sets had the fundamental building blocks for any industrial society because the components were steel and bolted together with nuts and bolts. The stuff I was constructing needed to be tough enough for an Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser to run over it. In recent years I figured out my childhood obsession with Erector Sets. That is, the Erector Set gave me all the necessary components to construct mechanical assemblies from the ground-up. This is very much like what I do for a living today. I have a “kit” of hardware and design guidelines that I use to design new transmissions and drivetrains. Some of it is easy and some of it is more involved. For example, choosing bearings for a new product is easy because the choices are specified in the bearing catalog with performance perimeters and fitment tolerances all spelled out. Gears and shafts are not standard catalog items and must be designed for the specific application by assessing three criteria: Noise/whine, strength, and efficiency. Based on the qualitative importance of the three criteria, a decision is made to utilize a straight cut (also called spur gear) or helical gear. Despite the miraculous outcomes, ophthalmologist continue to refine their technique for delivering gene therapy to children’s eyes. In the June issue of Ophthalmology Retina, Audina Berrocal, MD, and colleagues show a new technique for gene delivery in children. Here’s a partial description of their technique: After loading the AAV vector syringe onto a 38G/25G Subretinal PolyTip Cannula and purging all air bubbles, the injector was delivered into the subretinal space with a beveled tip. Beveling of the cannula tip was performed with scissors at a 45-degree angle, and the cannula was entered into the subretinal space in a bevel-up fashion. The EVA Phaco-Vitrectomy System with the viscous fluid control system was used for a single-surgeon, foot pedal-controlled linear infusion of the drug. When bleb tension and risks of macular hole formation are deemed too high, more than 1 bleb is recommended. With more than 1 extrafoveal bleb, subretinal delivery began nearer to the arcades but included the macula. In all cases, a total of 300 mL of vector was released (image shows multiple elevated subretinal blebs with a foveal detachment after injection). Visitei, semana passada, o mítico Château Pétrus, tão famoso por sua qualidade como por seu preço: trata-se do merlot mais caro do mundo. Quase impossível conseguir uma garrafa por menos de mil Euros. Muita gente me pergunta: por que é tão caro? Quem paga isso tudo por uma única garrafa? Simples: é a lei do mercado que dita o preço. Por acaso esse vinho é duas vezes melhor do que seus concorrentes diretos? Claro que não. Mas quando se visita Pétrus - o que eles raramente permitem - vê-se o quão pequena é a propriedade. Então trata-se de um vinho muito muito muito bom cuja pequena produção não é suficiente para suprir o mercado. Resultado? Os preços altíssimos. A impressão, ao visitar Petrus, é de uma vinícola típica da Margem Direita, como tantas pequenas propriedades da vizinha Saint Émillion. É até bem mais simples, na aparência (uma construção sóbria e pequena) e no modo de receber, do que muitas outras. O enólogo, o Olivier Berrouet, nos recebeu de jeans e botina. No chai (adega) o pessoal estava fazendo a remontagem (tirando o mosto da parte de baixo da chuva para regar o chamado chapéu - a crosta de sólidos que se forma no topo). O encarregado do chai está lá há uns 30 anos. Obviamente, trata-se de um processo super artesanal mas, como tantos, eles dizem que a maior parte do trabalho é feito na vinha, e que uma vez que as uvas chegam à adega buscam fazer o menos possível, perturbar o mosto o mínimo possível. Enfim: como não sou nem serei nunca compradora de Pétrus, poder provar uma amostra do fim da visita é uma sorte. E minhanossasenhora que maravilha que estava! Due to COVID there was a worldwide shortage of head studs for the DAZA block so our IMS1100 build was put on hold. We finally received a shipment from @dpengineparts after the customer @blackrs3dxb got some custom made. We have just mocked up the turbo & manifold from @irozmotorsport and I think the pictures speak for themselves. The engine will be rebuilt and put back in the car over the next few weeks whilst the final shipment with the dual fuel pumps & @syvecs_ltd ECU are sent. Then we can play! ➡️ Been getting over the flu this week (thanks @shotshow 🤢) and gearing up for the next @quantified.performance Weekend in the @arenatrainingfacility match down in Blakely, GA this upcoming weekend. Last match my #6mmAR performed wonderfully on the range, myself not so much but still wound up 11th overall out of over 70 shooters surprisingly enough. I did break a bolt lug during that match as seen here pushing the limits with a 90gr @sierra_bullets GameChanger load on CFE223 that wound up having pressure Spike’s from the elevated temps and topping out at 2980fps from my 22” @xcaliberbarrels build. (I kept shooting because I didn’t realize it happened 🤣) I swapped my powder choice to AR-Comp and bullet to a @bergerbullets 90gr Target for this match and I picked up a @youngmanufacturing bolt that has much thicker face walls, nearly .020” so hopefully that will help keep the rather fragile 6.5 Grendel bolt intact. Always pushing the limits with this cartridge and rig to see what I can wring out of it. I picked up some ASC 25 round magazines to test and save time on mag changes and I’ll also be testing out a new “prototype-ish” 6mm specific Rogue K from @kgmade_suppressors on the @area419official mounting system. Yeah. I cut a custom ordered, $2900 #billet #intake manifold apart. Cause I learned the hard way. Just cause it’s billet, doesn’t mean it fits or it works. After literally breaking ends off injectors and having to make “extensions” to wire the original design up, I’d had enough. I have room to re design this thing to be more of a traditional design with Fuel Rails and these bad ass @atomizerracinginjectors. Waiting on raw materials for the top plate to and the -10 extrusion blanks so I can finish the machine work. Shockingly enough, all of this is only gonna add .25” to the engines overall height and eliminate about 12 FEET of plumbing. Been told your egg has Vacuoles? . The egg at the bottom has Vacs. They are incredibly easy to distinguish and look like circles or craters inside the cytoplasm. If you compare the egg to the other 3 you can see the vast difference . Its not known what causes them, but vacs are almost always from the advanced aged patients and therefore would probably link to egg quality. Occasionally i will see them in younger patients but their frequency is much lower . So what do we do?! Well if you have enough eggs its not something to be concerned about bc you can exclude them. But if you only have 3-4 eggs like this case, we would inject and keep them separate. I tend to try and avoid them at injection and half of the time they do fert and divide, but i know they produce lower quality embryos, if a blast at all . These morphologies in older patients are common so i thought it would be nice to show you just what it is we mean when we tell you “your eggs have vacs” . Enjoy the week . Just wanted to share another cool little project we’ve done recently. This is a Speedotron 2400 Ws flashtube that we’ve adapted to fit inside a Profoto ring and connect to a Profoto Pro7a 2400Ws pack. I love this flashtube because the long U-shaped design fills a light modifier much more evenly, resulting in smoother and softer light. If I were designing a strobe from scratch, this is how I would do it! - Replaced the engine on a 2008 f250 3v 5.4. Original everyrhing with 427k miles towing a trailer every day. Never had the timing chain or cam phasers replaced. The roller part was nowhere to be found. He said it started acting up out of state and he drove it back without a problem.

Some good progress on my 4AGE motor build over at Club DSPORT. The head has been ported and given a Newen Valve job. New valve seats have been installed that will handle extra heat from the NOS I’m going to run. The Newen unshrouds the valve in the chamber for better flow. This machine served at TRD for 8 years performing valve jobs on various race winning engines. Now it’s at Club DSPORT! My custom pistons from @jepistons came in and the bottom end will also have @runbc crank and rods.
