It brilliantly exposes the capitalism system in society. The class difference, the economic boundaries set by the same people. 2.Rich vs poor : Smell is used very strongly as a sign of disparity between the classes. How the family of Parks(Rich class) don’t really care about anyone but themselves. All the Kims(Poor class) were asking for was to be respected in the society. And the societies idea of respect sadly depends on how much do you earn. 3. Poor vs poor : When it comes to survival, the fight is not only restricted to rich vs poor but also poor vs poor. The upper pyramid of the class system is unaware about what the lower pyramid is going through. The rich are privileged enough to ignore things. 4.Two sides of life. Someone’s fortune is somebody else’s misfortune. 5.The movie ends with Ki-woo back in his own basement, just as imprisoned as his father but by economic circumstances rather than legal ones. One question that movie make us think on is that who are the real parasites. The poor class who depends on rich people for their income or the rich class who depends on poor people for their work to be done. This is how US-backed soldiers rounded up millions of communists, trade unionists and other suspected left-wing sympathizers in Indonesia, to either be brutally murdered or put in a concentration camp. 55 years ago today, a failed mutiny by Indonesian left-wing military officers took place that led to a right-wing counter-revolution backed by the CIA, MI6 and other foreign intelligence services which would orchestrate a campaign of massacres and install a brutal and corrupt US-backed dictatorship. These anti-communist massacres destroyed the popular Indonesian Communist Party (PKI) that at its height became the largest communist party in the world outside of China and the Soviet Union, with 3.5 million members, and another 20 million in affiliated organizations. Fearing a peoples revolution, the reactionary general Suharto took the failed mutiny as an opportunity to start a political eradication campaign, blaming the mutiny and the death of 6 right-wing generals on a communist conspiracy, even though there was no involvement by the PKI. To fuel fear and hatred against the PKI, horrific tales were fabricated purporting that the generals were tortured and mutilated by women of the left-wing womens mass movement, Gerwani. The story would be taught for decades at schools in the form of a propaganda film which children had to watch every year. As general Suharto took over, the government of left-wing nationalist president Sukarno collapsed, opening the way for a violent onslaught in which over 1 million people were murdered and over 1 million more imprisoned in concentration camps. The killings werent only large in scale, but exceptionally violent with entire villages burned down, beheadings, torture, rape and the piling of corpses that would stop rivers from flowing. The mass killings were one of the great crimes of the twentieth century but were possibly the biggest “victory” for the West in the entire Cold War. After the establishment of a right-wing dictatorship under Suharto, Western corporations set up shop in the country soon after. All communist ideas and activities were banned — and remain so today. What’s the first rule about Fight Club? What’s the second rule about Fight Club? Well, the @BerricsFilmSociety is breaking both of them. Fight Club was was directed by David Fincher and written by Jim Uhls, who adapted the novel by Chuck Palahniuk. It stars Brad Pitt, Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter. At the time of its release the critics were polarized over it. Roger Ebert gave it 2 1/2 stars and called it, “the most frankly and cheerfully fascist big-star movie since Death Wish.” Box office was so so, bagging just $100m worldwide on a $63m budget which means... it lost a lot of money. But... thanks to the release of its DVD, packed with special features, and how strong the market was back then for them, the flim established itself as a cult classic. Ten years after its release The New York Times dubbed it the “defining cult movie of our time. The visual style of Fight Club was considered groundbreaking and Brad Pitt with a chipped front tooth and shaved head panicked studio executives as they did not believe any female wanted to see the guy from Legends of the Fall look so banged up. Since its release in 1999 there probably isn’t a personal trainer alive today that hasn’t heard the words, “I want to look like Brad Pitt in Fight Club.” I remember when the film was released, all that month Wilshire Blvd was lined with Fight Club posters at every bus stop. “Works great on blood stains.” “Hand soap? How about swollen and broken fist soap?” “Creates a thick rich lather. Like Rabies.” It was one of those moments, like now, where it truly felt like the world was changing. Have you seen Fight Club? 홍콩 영화 특유의 색감과 앵글, 중경삼림 영화의 한 장면 때문에 여행을 떠난 적 있으신가요? 저는 중경삼림을 보고 홍콩이 너무 가고싶어서 결국은 홍콩의 중경맨션과 미드레벨 에스컬레이터를 눈으로 다 보고온적이 있는데요, 그만큼 참 강렬했던 영화! 20년도 더 된 영화인데 지금봐도 촌스럽다기보다는 90년대의 느낌이 참 좋다는 생각이 들죠. 만약 사랑에도 유통기한이 있다면, 나의 사랑은 만년으로 하고 싶다 가슴이 아프면 난 조깅을 한다. 조깅을 하면 몸 속의 수분이 빠져나간다. 그러면 더 이상 눈물이 나지 않을거라고 믿기 때문이다. 금성무 대사인데, 다소 유치해보일수도 있지만 막상 보면 사랑 앞에서 진지한 젊은 날의 금성무가 참 귀여워보일겁니다. 집안 물건들에게 자꾸 말을 거는 양조위와 왕비의 스토리도 그렇구요. 화면구성 면에서 웨스 앤더슨이 딱 짜여진 구도와 색감을 보여준다면, 왕가위와 촬영감독인 크리스토퍼 도일은 흔들리고 어설픈듯한 와중에 불규칙한 균형을 보여줍니다. 중경삼림은 왕가위 감독이 동사서독을 만들던 중 2주만에 찍어버린 영화인데요, 왕가위 스타일대로 대본도 없이 이런 영화가 훅 나와버린게 참 대단하죠. A classic made modern building, Sir Robert Ho Tung Library, a beautiful colonial building constructed just before 1894. Located in the Historic Centre of Macao, the building was made a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2005. There is a nice open courtyard with a fountain where you can sit outside and enjoy the fresh air. The library is the perfect destination for a slow afternoon or a relaxed weekend.
