Happy National Public Lands Day! This special day is often marked by large group volunteer projects in public lands all over the country and although this day looks a little different this year, it is still a date worth noting in our parks. We recognize on this and every day that we have a lot to be thankful for and wanted to share an example of the good work being done to preserve this special place this season. This summer, an all-female youth crew, in partnership with Conversation Corps North Carolina (CCNC), worked in the Linville Falls area on trail restoration and preservation. This awesome crew accomplished a lot during their season, including this before and after of their root coverage work. In covering these sections and creating a smooth tread surface, they have transformed this trail into a safer and more accessible experience. Thank you for your hard work ladies! The National Park Service works together with volunteers and partners, like Conservation Corps North Carolina, the National Park Foundation and many others, to help maintain a high level of service and visitor experience along the Blue Ridge Parkway. UNA RUCA DE HACE 600 AÑOS Y ARQUEOLOGÍA DE LAS CASAS. Nuestras casas🏘️(un lugar en el que hemos estado mucho éstos últimos meses) a partir de la configuración de su espacio (cómo se distribuye) y los materiales empleados para su construcción nos puede decir mucho sobre el tipo de sociedad en la que vivimos y el rol que nosotr@s tenemos dentro de esa sociedad. También nos dice mucho de la relación que tenemos con nuestro medio ambiente: un iglú por ej tiene una lógica en el polo norte🌨️ pero en el norte de chile🏜️ sería algo súper inviable. O en el sur muchas casas son de madera ya que este recurso abunda🏞️ y su diseño está pensado para resistir las lluvias🌧️ Todos los objetos que fabricamos y cómo se integran entre si tienen una lógica en nuestra sociedad. Es por lo anterior que para la arqueología estudiar casas (que nosotr@s llamamos también contextos doméstico o habitacionales) nos da valiosa información para saber sobre las formas de vidas del pasado y qué tradiciones en estos modos de habitar o vivir se han mantenido hasta hoy en día y que cosas han cambiado a lo largo del tiempo en relación a diversos procesos sociales y acontecimientos históricos. En las fotos se muestra la planta de una ruca de hace unos 600 años atrás que se logró identificar gracias a excavaciones arqueológicas a cargo del arqueólogo Rodrigo Mera (gracias por las fotos😍). Asociados a ésta se encontraron restos de fogones🔥, improntas de postes, cuentas de collar, semillas, pesas para red de pesca🐟, fragmentos de cerámica; distintos materiales que al asociarlos (o juntarlos cómo un puzzle) nos permite saber aspectos de la sociedad mapuche antes de la llegada del Español. Joel Maripil, dedicado a transmitir y continuar con diversas tradiciones de su cultura dice que hay rucas de diversos tamaños, algunas hasta con 5 fogones, donde se hacen también reuniones o encuentros (cahuines). La ruca de su abuelo estuvo en pie cómo 100 años. Se fabrican con diversos materiales locales como madera y paja ratonera. Lo anterior coincide con relatos de cronistas y viajeros del pasado. La foresta di Sas Baddes, anche conosciuta con il nome di foresta di Montes, si trova a pochi chilometri da Orgosolo e si estende per circa 4500 ettari. La foresta include in buona parte i territori del Gennargentu, in parte la valle del Cedrino per continuare sul Supramonte, sino al rio Flumineddu. È una distesa verde con una varietà floro-faunistica molto ricca e un paesaggio selvaggio che descrive l’entroterra sardo. In particolare, è nota per la lecceta plurisecolare, unica in tutto il Mediterraneo sia per dimensioni che per caratteristiche. I lecci sono alti 20-25 metri e occupano gran parte della distesa di Sas Baddes. La lecceta è una delle più antiche d’Europa e convive nel territorio con aceri, agrifogli, corbezzoli, filliree e tassi. Anche il sottobosco è molto ricco, in particolare di peonie e rose selvatiche. Ma la foresta riserva numerose sorprese anche dal punto di vista faunistico. Il muflone, il vero simbolo di Montes, il cinghiale, l’animale più popoloso, il gatto selvatico, il ghiro, la martora, fino ai confini della foresta dove potrai incontrare lepri, pernici e volpi. Anche il cielo è popolato da animali unici: l’aquila reale, il falco pellegrino, il gheppio e lo sparviere.
