Even though we all know that I dont have a page to post about warships, I wanted to surprise everyone with this picture that I stumbled upon while I was sleuthing the internet for pictures. Dry dock workers and volunteers are seen taking photographs and admiring the gigantic USS Missouri while she lies in Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard in January of 2010. At the time, she had been undergoing a 3-month long overhaul that included the addition of a new coat of paint, and an anti-corrosion system, among other small details. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was directed by Michael Bay with cinematography by Ben Seresin, ASC. Following through on its promise to be a sequel, the story is told through explosions, gunfire, and loud vrooming noises set to voice-over in a nod to its core audience. Today we’re taking a look at lighting the first fight scene of the film, which takes place at night and sets up the premise of the plot: Fallen Transformers are out for Revenge. To acquire this crucial bit of dialogue, lots of army men and sentient cars drive around dodging explosions and shooting at one another. All of this took place on location at the Bethlehem Steel Campus in Bethlehem, PA. The factory had shut down years before in 1995, so there was plenty of room to drive fast cars and blow stuff up. The entire campus is 10 acres, but the set was contained to 16,000 square feet. Lighting this scene involved four nights of pre-lighting, three Bebee trucks, and 11 generators. One of the biggest challenges to this location was lighting the five, quarter-mile high, furnace stacks so they stood out in the night and rigging lights at their tops. Because there was so much movement and so many explosions, cameras were everywhere, which meant that all lighting on the ground needed to look purposeful. The stacks were lit from their bases with 12 Light Maxi Brutes and mini-nine lights to up-light them, while 12K LRX heads were rigged from the top to act as spotlights. Additionally, a Blackhawk helicopter was rigged with a xenon spotlight manned by @iatselocal728 members Erica Kim @itsericakim and Michael Schwartz to operate the focus as the explosions, guns, and cars whirled about below. On July 16, 1945 the first nuclear device nicknamed “The Gadget” was detonated in New Mexico. Our nuclear arsenal, along with the B29 which still the largest single expenditure in the history of military spending (scaled for inflation). These gave birth to the military industrial complex and a culture of no-bid contracting desensitizing taxpayers to astronomical numbers. These weapons and an updated version of our “Manifest Destiny” sees an earth without boundaries. Either through surveillance or might, the tools we have created have no need for accuracy as their implementation sees neither HERE nor THERE. Our military’s involvement across the world is a macrocosm of the policing of our local communities. This is not some alarmist view, but the weapons and technology that our government spends half of every one of our tax dollars mirrors what we protest today. The weapons we make and the people we train are used in conflicts the world over protecting property and not people. #45 is set to send more federal agents under the guise “federal property protection” to Chicago and then to other cities governed by “radical Democrats” using tools intended for the military. One of the channels these tools come to the police is through the 1033 excess defense property program which gives city and state police FREE military equipment. In other words, we over produce defense equipment (tools for killing people) and give these tools to our police for FREE. We are set to spend 740 billion dollars on our military this coming year which will undoubtedly create more defense equipment to give away. This is more than any other country spends on their military or for that matter, more than almost all of the other countries combined. 740 Billion dollars. #45 of course will do nothing but make this worse. What will #Biden do? This military budget issue is the same as our policing budget issue. The military and the police are tasked and tooled for things for which they are not suited nor trained.
