Finally, the cane doors have been completed! What do you guys think? If youre new here, we are hiding our TV in this wall, but I needed to make something to allow us access to the TV, but also giving the wall a built-in look. So we made 4 cane doors! Next up, finish painting this wall then install with the bifold hardware. So if you followed along in stories, I was having a hard time finding a finish that didnt change the color of the white oak. After much trial and error, I was able to preserve the natural color of this white oak by using Modern Masters Dead Flat Varnish- book mark this post to save this! It totally was the trick! Thank you everyone for your suggestions! I really wanted to keep the white oak nice and light because itll go nicely with our floors and the shelves that will be right next to this. I used the Fine Radio Weave from Franks Cane and Rush Supply, which I ordered online. Feeling kinda fabulous with this photo of me by @jackiedivesphoto in an excellent article by @lexxgill about covid-19 and the unexpected opportunities that have developed, especially for BIPoC folx, who have historically had a harder time finding access in the food industry. I am so grateful to both of these women for their time, energy, and passion to shine a spotlight on these businesses. Its been especially cool to see all the ways that the diversity of cultures in Vancouver collide and are celebrated right now, as I hope they will continue to be, permanently. I had the privilege of participating in the @bipocfoodcouver pop-up last week, and the response was wonderfully uplifting. It can be such a struggle to find a foothold in food, to make it profitable, and to feel like youll find your way. The most beautiful thing about working in a commissary kitchen like @cohocommissary is the community and collaboration that arises. One of my favourite sayings is, a rising tide floats all ships. Marzotto che per anni era stato una colonna portante del lavoro con le sue coperte e i suoi capi, non era più così importante. Ma i mobili non erano coperte e su come mostrarli c’era molto da imparare. Le luci super morbide ottenute dal rimbalzo sui polistiroli e filtrate dai teli di diffusione non erano adatte. Si chiamava Esserre, esse come Stefano erre come Russo, che assieme a Tiziana Sartori avevano una piccola agenzia nel cuore di Verona. Stefano era un passionario da farsi male, ci metteva attenzione, gentilezza, garbo, spirito e violenza, tutto quello che serviva per ottenere risultato. Fu lui a spiegarmi le attenzioni necessarie per creare fotografie parlanti. Mi indicava le posizioni e le direzioni, che dovevano prendere le alte luci, il livello di morbidezza, le riflessioni necessarie per raccontare le verniciature e le penetrazioni delle luci nelle varie trame dei legni. Mi coinvolgevano nel dare spirito a quell’ammasso di intarsi e intagli incomprensibili alle mie origini semplici di un territorio industrializzato da generazioni. Fu una dannata benedizione perché il mercato dei mobili in stile tentò di marchiarmi a fuoco. Da un lato mi offrì una grande forza economica, dall’altro cercò di circoscrivere il mio interesse per la fotografia. It felt like an organic Tribe Volunteering. We learned how, the purpose & benefits of building raised mounds (swipe ➡️). We learned how to plant and the benefits of planting your seedlings deep to encourage a strong 💪🏾 deep, root system (swipe ➡️). We used bamboo sticks to dibble small holes 🕳 in the soil before we seeded fall/winter crops (swipe ➡️) Would you be interested in starting or living on a community homestead? My Truth... I’ve always wanted to be a teacher growing up! I thought it was an incredible thing that teachers would plant seeds of knowledge and information into minds that would one day germinate into the next generation of leaders. However, child hood traumas and insecurities wouldn’t allow me to believe being a teacher would ever be possibility. I would never forget when my Latin forth grade teacher looked me in the eyes after I was horse playing and said, “this is the reason your not going to be anything when you grow up”. These traumatic scars left wounds of insecurities but also adapted into a relentless drive & tenacious work ethic. As an adult these scabs are finally healing and allowing myself to love me unconditionally No matter what anyone else thinks. I open my heart with love to all of my family, friends, tribe, soul sisters/brothers and anyone who has showed love, support and spoken life into my heart and spirit. I came back from Japan after studying design for a year and started interning in production downtown for free, and then would jet back to the westside for my serving or retail gig. When Covid-19 hit I would wait outside of hospitals waiting for purchasing managers like a stalker haha. One day the VP of the biggest medical supply chain was walking in the building. This is my latest piece - ‘Truffula tree’, I made this piece truly for the love - it comprises of 6 sculpted forms which looking at it clockwise you see a plant form, and when looking at it anticlockwise you see a fish form swimming in a circle, and the kicker is - when you look at the empty white space in the centre you see a Truffula tree ✌️ - if you know the Lorax you’ll get it - the symbol of sustainability and respect of nature. Kenyan-born Jomo Tariku founded @jomofurniture in 2017, but the seed of the idea for his furniture line goes back way further, to a realization the designer had as a student: Id go to the libraries and check out all these books about design, I didnt see African or Black design anywhere in those magazines.
