Vi i Sverige må vara ljusår ifrån det frekventa och dödliga polisvåld som finns i staterna men vi är absolut inte ljusår ifrån den rasism som drabbar icke-vita i andra delar av västvärlden (exempelvis Tyskland och Frankrike). En rasism som skapar än mer hat och uppgivenhet, där resultatet kommer bli än mer splittring om inget drastiskt görs. Och hamnar vi där, säg då inte att ni inte visste. För vi berättade. There should be no surprises when it comes to the financial toll cancer patients experience. According to a survey conducted in 2017 by CancerCare, 70 percent of patients have experienced financial hardship from cancer-related expenses. The financial burden of cancer is exacerbated because patients do not receive information on the costs of care or resources to help them manage these costs. In the survey, patients identified gaps in information regarding organizations that provide financial assistance or navigation, and information on costs of treatment before beginning that treatment. We hear many cancer patients talk about surprise medical bills. We hear many people talk about going medically bankrupt because of high costs of care. In a country where cancer is expected to affect 1.8 million lives with around half of those succumbing to the disease, the last thing that can possibly occur is people shying away from getting follow up care. Running away from diagnostic screenings and drugs that is pertinent for a world less susceptible to cancer. Heutiges Gesprächsthema des Bundestags: Einwegplastik. Das EU-Verbot bestimmter Einweg-Plastikartikel soll heute beschlossen werden. Auch weitere Beschlüsse rund um Abfall und Recycling werden gefasst. Das sind schon mal gute News. Unter Dach und Fach ist es noch nicht, was aber voraussichtlich beschlossen wird: 1. Wegwerfprodukte, für die es gute Alternativen gibt, sollen ab 3. Juli 2021 nicht mehr verkauft werden dürfen. Darunter fallen zum Beispiel Plastikstrohhalme, Luftballons, Wattestäbchen und Essensbehälter aus Styropor. 2. Es ist unklar, wie viele zurückgegebene und zurückgeschickte Waren im Handel zu Abfall werden. Eine „Obhutspflicht“ geht dagegen vor. Es gibt eine Pflicht, dafür zu sorgen, dass die Waren gebrauchstauglich bleiben und nicht zu Abfall werden. 3. Hersteller*innen sollen auf Mehrweg-Verpackungen setzen. Wer Einwegverpackungen in den Verkehr bringt, kann künftig an den Entsorgungskosten beteiligt werden. 4. Der Statt soll verpflichtet werden bei der Auftragsvergabe Produkte zu bevorzugen, die umweltfreundlich und ressourcenschonend sind. 5. Das Batteriegesetzt soll verschärft werden mit höheren Sammelquoten oder Batteriepfand. Klingt schon mal gut. Die Regelungen müssen allerdings auch noch vom Bundesrat verabschiedet werden. OF REPAIRING CYCLES I’ve always loved cycling. More often than not, I’d fall while pulling off wheelies, hurt myself and sometimes my bicycle. Every time my cycle got damaged, I’d walk down to Shankar chacha’s roadside station. It was a tiny one with all his shiny tools laid out neatly on a black mat. He’d pat my head, smile at me and then take my bicycle without saying a word. Before he began his work, he’d pour out some ‘khaini’ in his hand, rub it intently as though he were trying to rub the miseries out of his life and put it into his mouth. He was a widower and had a son around 5 years younger to me, a shy boy with a scar running from his ear to his nose which shrunk whenever he smiled. Chacha would call out to him sometimes. “Kabir, say hello to didi. Tell her what you want to do.” “Hello didi! When I grow up, I am going to make my own cycles but then baba will lose his job then because they will never break.” he would tell me with all the innocence. A few years later my family moved out due to my mother’s transfer and never saw them again. Last week, I returned to the city for some work. While I was cruising the market, I saw a new bicycle shop with glass doors and fancy bicycles. It hadn’t been there back then. There was a man sitting outside repairing a puncture, with a scar same as Kabir’s. I walked up to him and said “I think I know you! You are Shankar Chacha’s son, right?” He paused for a moment, said yes with a straight face and then got back to work. He probably didn’t recognise me. Nonetheless, I continued “How is chacha? Has he retired?” His face softened, “He died a few years ago. The doctor said it was due to khaini. But I know it was just flu. Why are his friends alive otherwise?” “Oh! I am sorry. Are you holding up fine?” “I dropped out of school and got married. I have a son too.” He pointed to a little boy looking at the cycles through the glass door. “Aman, say hello to didi. Tell her what you want to do.” he shouted. “Hello didi! My grandpa has taken such good care of my grandma since she got diagnosed with Alzheimer’s a few years back. Covid has made it even harder on him with nursing homes and caregivers being overloaded but they still stay so positive.. he sent these videos to my mom and it made us so happy to still see her active. 💜 Even with the worst circumstances they live life to the fullest. The Muslim locality, Shaheen Bagh - where a long-running peaceful protest against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) took place - captured the imagination of many Indians. We were delighted to see the residents in Pencoed Care Home in Saundersfoot, Wales keeping the spirit of IRONMAN alive when they completed their own backyard IRONMAN. They competed with each other in three races, swimming, cycling and running which is no mean feat when you are in your 80s and 90s! White supremacy teaches us to fix ourselves instead of heal ourselves. It affects all of us, including white people. It doesn’t affect me the way it affects POC, but we all learn inside of this one lens that tells us what’s better or more beautiful or more lovable. It re-directs us from the inner compass we have to define these things ourselves. It moves us away from our selves. It clouds our truth. It inhibits our ability to fully love others just as they are. It inhibits our ability to fully love ourselves just as we are. Dismantling this has been the best gift I’ve ever received and I owe that all to the POC who had the patience, forgiveness and generosity to be in relationship with me. Her great-grandfather, François Leroy, founded Maison Leroy in 1868. He was a winemaker and owner of vines in Auxey-Duresses (where he lived), Meursault, Pommard, Chambertin, Musigny, Clos Vougeot, and Richebourg. Initially, he sold his wines through Comptoir des Propriétaires de la Côte d’Or, in Beaune. Her father, Henri Leroy, joined the family business in 1919. A friend of Edmond Gaudin de Villaine in 1942, he became half owner of Domaine Romanée-Conti which is still held by the Leroy family today. . In 1955, Madame Leroy entered the family business. Her father is credited with having begun building the reserves of the cellar in 1919. With his focus on Domaine Romanée-Conti, the wines collected are storied in their elegance and poignancy. She tastes through the range once a year to decide what is ready for release. It is a collection of mature bottles which captivates their audience. She has no contracts with growers. She buys the wines if she likes it and will pass on wine if she does not. Hi there! This is me with baby Myra and Ikram with 2 year old Maram. In August I met this family for the first time and started following them on their journey to safety and stability. They started this journey running away from torture and war. Their journey took a wrong turn on Lesvos where baby Myra is now in the hospital due to infections. Our lives are so different but we are not. Ikram and I became friends even though we are from different cultures, different countries and speak a different language. La entrevista transcurría en la sección “fuera del rebaño”, yo oveja descarriada, explicaba los entresijos de pastorear libremente entre fibras de sombreros. A lo loco y sin pensar, aquella manualidad que empezó complaciéndome como autocliente acabó conquistando la cabeza de más de uno y así abrí mi primer taller. Sin expectativas, fui aprendiendo del poder de la aguja, sintonizando colores con tejidos, destruyendo materiales para construir mi propia materia. Soy un poutporri de enlaces monárquicos retransmitidos, clases sobre pintura barroca, viajes de caza tesoros y probadora de los mil y un oficio artesanos que encuentro por el camino. Adoro el pliegue de Liebniz y la arruga bella de Adolfo Dominguez (aunque le otorgara la actitud a Roberto Verino). Arrastro desde la infancia el amor por los trajes folklóricos, para mi son puro estudio antropológico. Y finalizamos con la anécdota de un cinturón encontrado en la calle, ceñido a la cintura de Txell, el objet trobé fue mío y donado a Cáritas, me hace feliz saber que seguirá vistiendo, complementando.
