I wanna talk about emotional health for a minute as it affects your physical health. Emotional distress leaves people susceptible to physical illness. Studies have shown that ailments like cardiovascular disease, immune system dysfunction, as well as many other chronic illnesses can be linked to emotional distress. Being emotionally healthy doesn’t mean you’re happy all the time. It means you’re aware of your emotions. You can deal with them, positive or negative. Our response to @asuprescrow’s 25 actions to address racism: We, the Multicultural Solidarity Coalition, are encouraged by the list of 25 actions you plan to take to address systemic racism at ASU. We are pleased to see pieces of our own proposal reflected in this list, such as the need for a multicultural center and the creation of community fellowships for graduate students. It is also heartening to see what appears to be a deep commitment to the hiring and retention of underrepresented faculty and graduate students from marginalized communities, which is another important piece of our proposal. While we are thankful to see these pieces of our proposal being implemented, we agree with you that “this list of actions will be inadequate by itself.” For these pieces of our proposal to be realized in a way that is true to our intentions and goals, it is necessary for the Multicultural Solidarity Coalition (as the author of these pieces) to be part of the various working groups addressing these points. We look forward to working together with you, the Council of Coalitions, and the Black African Coalition. We are especially motivated to work on some of the other items that also made it to your action list. In fact, they are a source of grave concern to all of us. Points 22 and 25 are actions that are contrary to the spirit and intent of our proposal. We believe that they will likely put Black and other marginalized students at greater risk. Specifically, inviting the Department of Homeland Security into the ASU community negates the intent and spirit of our request to become a sanctuary university. DHS houses ICE and CBP, which are both agencies that put our undocumented students at risk of harassment and deportation. We do not agree that inviting DHS to collaborate with ASU is a step toward greater racial equality in the U.S. In fact we see it as further violence against Black and Brown students. Plant-based gastroenterologist shines a light on probiotics @dr.alandesmond • • • • • • The one thing the probiotic industry isn’t telling you: there is no strong evidence to support using their products The global probiotic industry is worth billions of dollars. I have seen probiotics advertised as effective treatments for IBS, fatigue, obesity, bloating, inflammatory bowel disease and as an essential daily supplement for gut healing & overall health This year the American Gastroenterology Association (AGA) published their recommendations on use of probiotics for gut health. As well as rigorously reviewing the evidence, they considered submissions from patients and interested parties. Their evidence-based recommendations show that probiotics are not yet ready for prime time For symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, for active C difficile infection, ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, there is no evidence to support probiotic use. Clinicians should only prescribe them in the context of a clinical trial designed to find out if they actually work! There are two scenarios where probiotic treatment may be considered: for the prevention of antibiotic associated diarrhoea due to C difficile and the treatment of acute pouchitis (a condition that affects certain post-op IBD patients). Not to mention the added cost to patients with a low expectation of benefit Ongoing probiotic trials are fascinating and valued. Days after the U.S. Marshals Service announced the rescue of 39 endangered children in Georgia, similar operations are ongoing in two other states as authorities target missing kids who may be victims of sex trafficking. In Ohio, Operation Safety Net led to the discovery of 25 children ages 13 to 18 in less than three weeks, the Marshals Service said. The operation is likely to continue into October, U.S. Marshal Peter Elliott said. A two-week operation is underway near Indianapolis, Darby Kirby, chief of the Marshals Missing Child Unit, told USA TODAY in an email Tuesday. These operations are part of efforts at the local level to locate missing children rather than a coordinated nationwide sweep, Kirby said. Since 2005, the marshals have helped recover 1,800 missing children. “If they were looking for kids every day, they would find kids every day,” said Suzanne Lewis-Johnson, CEO at RAHAB Ministries in Ohio, who worked as an FBI agent and on a Child Exploitation Task Force running operations similar to the ones conducted by the Marshals Service. Human traffickers target vulnerabilities and recruit missing children or kids who can be lured away from home, Lewis-Johnson said. LET GO AND LET GOD Does your life seem out of control? If so, it is time to let go and let God take the drivers seat of your life. Many people are at a point in their lives where everything seems to be a mess. Maybe you started the year with big dreams and goals, hoping this would be the year that there is a turn around; but things rather took a turn for the worst. Whether it is a job loss, an emotional upset, an academic hiatus, a physical challenge, a financial crisis, or a relationship problem, the solution for each is the same: give it all to God and let Him handle it. Philippians 4:6-7 says: Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God. And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours]. (AMP) Rather than worrying, let go and let God take over the situation. Letting go may be difficult at first, but a total surrender to God brings us freedom because when we let go, we give God room to do His mighty work in our lives. Sometimes we are inclined to think that the phrase “let go and let God” is just about turning our troubles over to Him and He would take care of things. Yes, He would take care of things; but, we tend to forget that His thoughts are not our thoughts, nor are our ways His ways (Isaiah 55:8). God taking care of things doesnt necessarily mean we would always get the outcome we expect, therefore we have to learn to let go of the outcome we desire, or the way we expect things to go and let God manifest His will. Sometimes we do let go and give our problems to God, but because we are expecting a particular outcome we dont realise He has a hand in it and that is Him taking care of the situation. Maybe you are not getting that particular job, contract or admission because that wasnt Gods will for you. Rather than complaining, accept the outcome and thank God for it. Social Media Friends. This is the time we need you and your support the most. @bp.surfs suffered a blast injury this morning when she was pumping up a board with an industrial compressor before our surf camp. She was thrown backwards by the blast and hit her head on the ground. She has 7 stitches in the back of her head, a concussion, and a carpel fracture from where the compressor hose hit her hand. She was driven to Salida Hospital from BV in an ambulance where the accident happened. After a CT scan and X-rays in Salida they determined she needed to be flown to St. Anthony’s in Denver so she could be assessed by a neurologist. She has air in her skull and brain hemorrhaging from the blast injury. As you all know medical transport and treatments are extremely expensive. The best thing for Brittany from here on out is to ONLY have to worry about HEALING. We can all make sure of this by donating! The funds raised will be used to alleviate Brittanys financial burden in order to best allow her to concentrate on getting better and overcome her injuries. PLEASE DONATE, SHARE, GET SUPPORT! As I was prepping her for surgery she recited to me the reasons that it was being done. She said that it would stop the growth of unwanted hair on her face and body, her skin would become lighter and she would be more appealing to a future husband. What? ✨ What an EPIC birth story ✨ ... Birth story share! Bre and Robs birth story is one for the record books and probably one of the fastest Ive witnessed. On the morning of August 22 at 10:16 am the birth team received a text that Bres labor had started. Rob sent us a photo of her on her ball on hands and knees. The midwife @birthingblyssmidwifery told her to eat and relax and maybe take a walk later and to keep in touch. At 11:23 the message read water broke. They checked to confirm it was amniotic fluid...and it was. They let us know at 11:34 am. At 11:51 Rob texted and said feels like she needs to push. I was quickly gathering my clothes, gear etc. to head that way. Then all of the sudden at 11:57 am the text read baby is here which was accompanied by a photo of Bre in the bathtub and baby emerging. Luckily, @iamhaizehawkerosen made it to assist with baby being born in the tub and the transition to the bed. Of course, this was a precipitous birth and very rare for a first time mom especially. My first feeling and reaction as her birth photographer and part of the team is disappointment to have missed being there to capture that moment and all leading up to it. Nevertheless, I headed that way to document all the beautiful afters of birth. When I arrived she was birthing the placenta and being supported by Rob, with their beloved dog, Foxy, nearby. The cord burning ceremony was sacred and sweet. Birth never ceases to amaze and surprise. I am honored to have documented the unique and inspiring birth of their little boy, Hunter and to be a part of the birth team. Normalmente, el daño cerebral que se produce conduce a un deterioro mental de intensidad variable, llegando en ocasiones a provocar lesiones y secuelas muy importantes en el sistema nervioso central. Hay que tener en cuenta, que cuando se produce una lesión cerebral severa como consecuencia de una sacudida de la masa encefálica, bien tenga como base un maltrato infantil intencionado o como causa de maniobras de reanimación en las que el niño es zarandeado de forma inconsciente, siempre va ocurrir antes de los tres primeros años de vida, y en su gran mayoría, en el transcurso del primer año. En cuanto a las personas que cometen el maltrato, por orden de frecuencia son, los padres, los compañeros sentimentales de las madres, las mujeres que cuidan a los niños en sus casas, y por último, las madres. El cuadro clínico más habitual entre un 40% y un 70% de los casos debuta con crisis epilépticas. De la misma forma suele ser frecuente: . ✔️ Irritabilidad ✔️ Letargia. ✔️ Alteraciones del tono muscular ✔️ Falta de apetito ✔️ Vómitos ✔️ Pérdida de conciencia ✔️ Incluso trastornos respiratorios Ante la sospecha es necesario posterior a la evaluación clínica la realización de una TAC de cráneo, de igual forma los estudios oftalmológicos serán imprescindibles desde los primeros momentos, para la detección precoz y seguimiento de las hemorragias retinianas. A pesar de la extensa difusión del maltrato infantil, se ha estimado que solo se identifica el 10% de los casos. Unsere Einsteiger-Seilgruppe musste gestern leider ausfallen: Gute und schnelle Besserung an euch alle!!! Trotzdem waren wir gestern ziemlich fleißig und haben den halben Tag damit verbracht unsere Lehrinhalte fotografisch festzuhalten. Die tollen Fotos ergänzen dann bald die Lernjournale und Skripte, die ihr in unseren Kursen bekommt.
