On this day in Hollywood history: Carrie Fisher was born on Oct. 21, 1956. Fisher was best-known for portraying Princess Leia in the Star Wars films. She was nominated for two Emmy Awards for her guest appearances on 30 Rock and Catastrophe, and she was posthumously made a Disney Legend in 2017. In her later years, she earned praise for openly speaking about her experiences with drug addiction and bipolar disorder. Fisher died of cardiac arrest on Dec. 27, 2016. I am over the damn moon to announce the release of my debut LP, Hair Birth; a record which you can listen to through its own cover art. The limited special edition features art that transforms the jacket into a functioning speaker. The art is the speaker and the speaker is the art. The width of a continuous copper coil is modulated as it radiates across the surface of the jacket to render the image of my face mid-performance from a show last summer in Kumamoto, Japan. The coil, when connected to an audio amplifier and placed in front of a magnet, turns the material of the cover into an active speaker membrane. The whole thing dances and vibrates in your hands as you listen to the album, as it pushes the particles in the air back and forth to create invisible waves that we perceive to be sound. Norman Rockwell: Behind Apollo 11, 1969 Washington, National Air and Space Museum In 1969 popular American #artist and #illustrator #normanrockwell is considered a reflection of #americanculture , painted “Behind Apollo 11”, an idealistic assembly of profile #portraits of all the #people that were crucial for the landing on the #Moon such as the three #astronauts (depicted on the left – from left to right:) #neilarmstrong #edwinaldrin and #michaelcollins , (in the centre, above the helmeted NASA-employee:) #wernhervonbraun or (in the lower right) the three wives of the astronauts. Other persons depicted include the back-up crew of #apollo11 , #scientists , #government officials and launch pad workers. The composition describes a soft curve, starting on the right with the Vehicle Assembly Building and a red rocket gantry, gliding over to von Braun (whose staring eye has perhaps the most intense gaze in the whole painting) and from there rising in a slight slope up through the three astronauts.
