Alright hey guys, I don’t think I’ve ever posted anything like this, so get ready for a long one. When I started college my freshman year, it was the best thing that had ever happened to me. The convenience of everything. Meeting so, so, SO many amazing people and having them all live so close to me. Finally taking classes that actually interest me. The independence of being able to do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. I went into sophomore year with that same mindset. I had had an amazing summer being a camp counselor- which is, without a doubt, the best thing I have ever done in my life- and I was so so so excited to get back on campus and see all my friends. That all fell apart pretty fast. I had gone off my meds and I was, without really realizing it, slowly falling apart. I was receiving grades on exams that I had never gotten before. I started losing motivation to go to classes and do my homework. At my lowest, I once spent an entire day in bed crying, and skipped out going to a physics midterm exam. For my own safety, I withdrew the semester. At first I was hating myself for it. Withdrawing was a sign of weakness. All my other friends were taking on much heavier class load than I was and were doing fine- why couldn’t I? I cried at the thought of withdrawing. I cried at the thought of having to go home, 3 hours away, and leave all my friends. But I now know it was definitely the best thing for me. The difference between me and a lot of the friends I’ve made at state is that I severely struggle with mental illness. Trying to do anything, let alone get through engineering school, with mental illness, is insanely hard to say the least. Since I’ve dropped out, I’ve learned a lot. I’ve made more amazing friends, ones who I might’ve never met had I not had dropped out. I’ve gotten a lot closer with people I love because I’ve been more open and honest with them. These past 2-3 ish months have been a whirlwind, and everything happening all at once only leaves me more anxious. MORE IN COMMENTS LOL IT GOT TOO LONG - @mmaddie.152 on Instagram
This week marks 3 YEARS of plays from Patalog Theatre! Tracking back to June of 2017 with our production of ‘Mojo’ by Jez Butterworth, through to May 2018 with ‘The Pillowman’ by Martin McDonagh, and then more recently ‘Tusk Tusk’ by Polly Stenham (pictured) and ‘Punk Rock’ by Simon Stephens, both in 2019. We’ve missed live performance these past months very dearly, and hope that everyone is staying well and safe in these rapidly changing and often stressful times. Thank you to all the glorious artists we’ve worked with in the past 3 years. But most of all, thank you to our audiences, without whom we would not exist. As Pride month comes to an end here is a photo by @oliviabee from when @lesliemarrowjones and I were featured in @teenvogue. It was such a rememberable experience getting to talk about coming out and our experience being gay and what it was like for us as a couple. Love is love. For so long when I was younger I tried to hide it or pray the gay away and you can’t. Not without losing yourself. I never thought I’d be this lucky and be married to my best friend. I am so thankful and grateful I live in a world where I can be legally married in all 50 states. June 15th, 2015. Thank you @barackobama 🌈 thank you for the people before me who fought for my rights and helped me be where I am today.
