You ever heard of road twerk? It’s kinda like road rage but with twerking. It only happens in Florida (I think it’s the bath salts they put in our water). You need to be on your way somewhere specific and necessary. Make sure your girl is in the truck cause she’ll be wound tighter than my spool after hookset once she witnesses this shit. Always have a money gun in the whip. When you pass a swamp club, yank the truck off the road entirely unannounced to your woman and leave her in the runnin whip, this won’t take long. Now hunt. I tend to look for the biggest mouth in the swamp and shoot. You’re an absolute stud of a human being so by the third pull of the trigger you’ll have her ass glued to you while vibrating like your grandmas massage stick (Be careful with grams massage wand btw. I’m not saying she’s a freak or anything but always give it a nice alcohol bath before relieving personal back stress). Now here’s the key. While meat is actively clapping on your no no square, make it back to the truck and yank the door open while screaming obscenities about how fat the cheeks are. Be loud and un interpretable. If her mom’s on the phone with her she’ll think you’re either dying, or dying, before being hung up on. Now have your lady take pics. She’ll be proud, disgusted, and soaked all in the same moment. I guess its just like that sometimes when it comes to these bucket mouthed @frog_eaters in the sunshine state. Yank her off the road, huck a @scum.frog and harness in a monster. It’s not really that simple, but with enough effort, sometimes it is. Don’t expect to pop hawgs first cast out the truck. It’s unrealistic. Grind and grind and grind. Go days without a bite. Go days full of em. But just keep going. Eventually you’re gonna have something like this happen to you. Keep swangin and stay clappin my friends. Oh, my, what an adventure yesterday - we often hook big pike and muskies while fishing for walleye, crappies and bass - but usually they bite you off and you never get to see them. Not yesterday. Buddy John Monteith was jigging a 1/4 oz jig tipped with a minnow and using 6 pound test line. We both spot-locked our boats side-by-side, so there was a narrow lane between us. Then I netted this girl for John in my walleye net. And the hook fell out of her mouth the second she went into the net! Talk about good luck! I put her on the bumpboard and she was 48 and change, with the most massive sides / girth Ive ever seen. I could barely lift her up. And when I did, she went berserk because she was so fresh, and leapt right out of my hands and back into the lake. So this is the only shot we got of her as she was air bound and leaving! Two incredible sights this morning out on the Gulf. First, got out before the sun and bagged a meaty King Mackerel dangling dirty. So worth it. But that’s just a good day fishing, the once-in-a-lifetime thing was being able to see GO NAVIGATOR, the ship that was steaming out to the splashdown site to recover @spacex Dragon capsule. Me and @zack_m_pennington were just at the right place at the right time to catch a glimpse. The boat was headed out early along with two fast boats. You may have seen this exact vessel on TV if you were watching the splashdown. Incredible stuff, really. History in the making. HUGE congrats on a successful mission! #FBF Fifteen years ago, when I was the editor of a hunting and fishing magazine. “Press trips” back then usually revolved around me doing something like this... often on the North Coast of BC, when we knew “The Great Bear Rainforest” as “Mid-Coast Timber Supply Area;” and the government was still calling the archipelago of Haida Gwaii “The Queen Charlotte Islands.” I wouldn’t bonk a salmon like this nowadays, if I could even find one. Too valuable to the stocks. (I probably shouldn’t have done it then.) Yeah, some of the stuff I wrote about, and published, makes me cringe a bit when I think back. Still some good memories though. Scarcely a trace of those publishing days can be found—the magazine no longer exists. And most of the images from this trip are on slides. Day 1 of my Cedros trip yielded some amazing fishing with @vince_cinquini, in the morning we ran to a very remote area of the island for some great action but definitely had to break into the kit to figure out a pattern. Once the wind kicked up to about 20+ we headed back to the lee side of the island and started fishing the beach for a few bites and at the end of the day, spotted a submerged rock in about 12 feet of water, worked the @luckycraftsw 190 rapidly over the rock and tricked this fine specimen of a calico into biting. With a beard grown just for the trip and a full outfit supplied by his mates, Matt traded the farm for a family holiday at the beach. Forever ago @williamenta crewed me up with @acme_lighting , he gave me this warning... “Rico is terrible with the walkie, he uses a lot of hand signals, try to keep up.” . . Richard Sands, is an older gentleman with super human strength (Normally you need 4 guys to pick up a 6500watt generator, or 2 guys and one Rico). Equal to his strength is his lighting skills. It’s been around a year since I last reposted an old article about the theory that coke poured over a fish’s gills can stop most bleeding that may have resulted from hooking, fighting, or handling the fish. This is an old theory amongst anglers across several species and disciplines of fishing. It certainly always provides some good discussion, as well as anecdotal testimony, both for and against it. I’m not arguing whether or not it works... again, it’s a theory. Yes, there have been a few articles over the years that have included the opinions of “experts” and scientists, but none have been able to point to any actual data simply because there have been zero controlled experiments published on the subject. However, after the last time this article was posted, I was informed that an experiment was indeed being completed and that the results should have been published this past Fall. I belly laughed with these guys all morning, they didn’t break any records and missed on a few opportunities, but having guys on the boat that have been friends longer then I’ve been alive and spend more time talking junk and telling stories then they do fishing, puts it all in to perspective.
