Alguém se lembra desse mocinho que já foi publicado algumas vezes para adoção há meses atrás? #PatrickIAPA sempre foi cheio de energia e muito amor para dar, várias pessoas se interessavam por ele, mas, o receio sempre era sua energia! De repente, tudo mudou! Patrick vivia solto em um lar temporário em Cotia, junto com seus amigos peludos, até que, ele apareceu com uma das patas inchadas (aparentemente picada de algum bichinho), foi tratado para melhorar a inflamação, mas, com o passar dos dias, ele começou a perder peso. Foram feitos vários exames, o reviramos de ponta cabeça e estava tudo bem, não encontrávamos nada que justificasse a perda de peso. Sua situação foi piorando e ele teve que ser internado, fazer transfusão de sangue, mudar toda sua alimentação e, MESMO ASSIM, todos seus exames davam negativo. Patrick esta internado há mais de 30 dias, o único fato que mudou em seu quadro foi a confirmação de diabetes. Foi colocado um free style (um dispositivo na pele para regular a dose da insulina), mas, a diabetes não é a “vilã” da história. Aparentemente, é apenas uma “consequência” de alguma outra doença que ainda não conseguimos descobrir. 😔 A maior suspeita do Endócrino é Leish, porém, seu exame deu negativo. Hoje ele foi ao Hematologista e a possibilidade de uma doença autoimune é grande. Vamos iniciar um novo caminho de exames bem específicos e com alto custo. O que nos move em seu caso é a VONTADE DE VIVER que ele tem. A GENEROSIDADE que mesmo nos dias que não consegue parar em pé, demonstra seu amor por nossa equipe. O peludo que tinha muita energia, hoje, tem muita vontade de viver... 🙏 Patrick precisa de você, não temos condições de arcar com todo o custo de seu tratamento que já está altíssimo. 😢 Precisamos que cada um ajude com o que puder, Patrick não é o nosso único caso sério em internação e, a cada dia, está mais desesperador a manutenção destas vidas. Our first premmie flying fox of the season. Flying foxes usually give birth in spring and early summer so it wont be long until baby season is upon us. Last year we had terrible flowering over winter which led to a starvation event and an abnormally large intake of premmie babies. We do absolutely everything we can for these babies but unfortunately they do have a guarded prognosis. This year we have had beautiful flowering across our local area and there are lots of very fat and happy mums flying around at the moment. Lately I’ve been trying to evolve and loosen up my style a little more. I took down my website a month and a half ago to redesign - I thought it would take me a week but I ended up hating almost everything about all of my old work. I know this is normal for most artists and illustrators but the self-doubt and loathing is still eating at me big time. I’ll get on the other side of this eventually, I’ve been here before. Dogs of Chernobyl FAQ: Why do you put the food on the ground and not in bowls? If you look closely, you will see that the food is spread out in a line, instead of being put into a bowl or a pile. Spreading the food out gives all the dogs in a group access to the food at the same time, which avoids fights breaking out among dogs that are afraid they will not get any food. Another interesting fact that informs how we administer our Feeding Program: there are groups of dogs that hold and defend territories, so we always make sure that we feed the dogs in the middle of their territory where they feel safe. While the territory boundaries are invisible to us, the dogs know exactly where they are and will not cross the boundary. We make sure to feed the dogs in all territories. Our Feeding Program in the #chernobylexclusionzone will continue through the winter to make sure that the dogs continue to stay healthy and safe. This way, they are less likely to venture into the woods in search of food and interact with wolves, which prey on the stray dogs. Feeding them within their established territories helps to keep them safe from predation and starvation, and helps them to fight off the cold. Celebrating the Successful Recovery of the Island Fox Once on the brink of extinction, the island fox now roams freely across the Channel Islands. Its a conservation success story. On the four-year anniversary of the official U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service announcement removing the island fox (Urocyon littoralis) from the Endangered Species List (ESL), foxes are stable in number and overall health. Official numbers reported at May 2020 IFC Working Group In spite of the fact that this remarkable recovery is still celebrated today, conservation work is never completely done. Island foxes remain a conservation-reliant species. Threats still exist to the foxes from parasites, viruses, and human impacts as the islands are visited more and more each year. Keeping island foxes safe and healthy requires understanding of their diet, reproduction, lifespan, behavior, and disease threats. On-going research doesnt just benefit the island fox. The lessons learned help other rare species as well. The Sierra Nevada red fox is benefiting from viable population modes that were developed for island foxes on Catalina. While not a one-to-one relationship, it is a reference that provides related information for another foxs demographic needs. Its science for Fox sake! The power of partnership and focus can realize dramatic results and we have to look no farther than the group of islands off the Southern California coast. Today each spring fox kits are born as helpless little beings that would not survive without their parents constant attention. In the course of six short months these tiny helpless creatures grow into self-sufficient cinnamon, gray, and black-colored predators that leave their birth den and seek out their own piece of the island. On Saturday, the Animal Health Team worked with the Animal Science Team as well as professionals from Lion Country Safari, the Brevard Zoo, and the Zoo Hoofstock Trim Program to immobilize, Pongo, a nearly 2,000 pound male giraffe that stands over 16 feet tall. Because of a giraffes extraordinary size and anatomy, anesthetizing an adult is extremely dangerous and presents a serious risk of not being able to recover that can lead to death. This is the first time in the history of the zoo that such a procedure has been performed and it likely saved this majestic animals life. Over two dozen people worked together doing a variety of tasks that included X-rays, blood and tissue collection, hoof trims and the shaping and attachment of custom shoes to help immobilize and stabilize a fracture that Pongo had in his rear foot. Thankfully, everything went well and Pongo was able to stand on his own after he was administered the reversal drugs. He has since been reunited with the rest of the herd where the severe lameness he had demonstrated prior to the procedure is now gone!! Unfortunately the owners had constraints and were unable to see a board certified veterinary surgeon. They declined amputation surgery, but an ER friend who has alot of surgery experience was able to perform the fracture repair! Total cost for everything was still over $3,500. #Repost via @timesofindia • • • • • • Now, retirement home for veteran ITBP canines at Bhanu near Panchkula Retirement or elderly homes for humans, where they live in assisted caring in their twilight years, is not new, but now the man’s best friend too can walk that extra mile, as the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), one of the prestigious paramilitary forces, has decided to open a permanent ‘K9 Retirement Home’ at Bhanu near Panchkula. As many as 36 “veteran” canines who worked for the ITBP for the past 8-10 years in various areas, including patrolling, counter-insurgency operations, anti-naxalite operations, would soon reach Bhanu to spend the rest of their life. Many of them have also served in Afghanistan with the deployment of ITBP troops. Most of them are in the age of 10-12 years. According to those associated with training of dogs for armed forces, normally such dogs are kept in service for around eight years. However, on account of a good diet, training and upkeep, some dogs serve for more than eight years. Confirman la presencia de la güiña en el @humedalmantagua, un amenazado refugio de biodiversidad en Quintero😱🐯 Aunque es reconocido por hospedar a un sinnúmero de aves, el humedal de Mantagua posee una biodiversidad mayor que todavía falta por develar. Así lo demuestra el reciente registro de una #güiña a través de cámaras trampa, que confirma la presencia del felino silvestre más pequeño de América en este humedal de la comuna de #Quintero. ⚠️El lugar no cuenta con ninguna protección oficial, mientras enfrenta múltiples amenazas, desde el ingreso de vehículos hasta los perros y gatos domésticos que constituyen un peligro directo para la güiña (por ataques y transmisión de enfermedades como leucemia felina y parvovirus, como detallamos en la nota). According to local informants, there has been a rise in wild cats being targeted for bushmeat. ☠️ The cat was said to have come into a house/garden to catch fish from a pond, and was killed before being butchered. ☠️ The suspect will be taken to courts tomorrow.
