First of all, wow- thank you for the outpouring of love and support, we never dreamed we’d reach so many people. We really appreciate everyone reaching out to us about this unfortunate situation. We’re shocked at how much support we’ve gotten and are truly grateful by everyone’s offers and well wishes. We’re trying to respond to everyone who has asked questions, but there are so many it is hard to keep up. Many people have asked about a fundraiser of some sort in order to repair the DC-3s. We are humbled at how quickly people were willing to offer assistance. These are very kind offers, however we are really just looking for information and awareness, not for money or donations. We have never been people to accept charity, and especially not in the condition our world is in right now. So many people have lost their jobs, had hours cut back, and are struggling with the effects of COVID-19 that we could never consider accepting money. Both Sid and his son Chris are licensed A&P IA mechanics, so they are able to fix this damage over time. Sid will rebuild the flight controls that were wrecked, but it is a major set back. Throwback to 2015 - 3,2m aaaand 3,6kg RTF ✈️ this was my first big build and the first plane I was building every single part by hand. The whole design is done by me and this is all wood! I was proud as hell and this was such a big deal for me and this made me start to overthink the classic building techniques of model aircraft because I wanted to have something super light weight! Even the costs of building this was super low, only about 350€ for the whole plane, which was a lot considering I was a stundent going to school earning no money at all. This project got me and this was the start of Löbair! The flying characteristics were amazing due to the low weight. Looking forward to new projects ! THEY CALLED THEM LITTLE COBRAS When U.S. Marines stormed the shores of Guadalcanal in August 1942 in the first major U.S. Pacific offensive of the war, both Americans and Japanese threw whatever nearby air forces they could find into the mix. The result was an ad hoc unit called the Cactus Air Force, after the island’s code name. Continuing Hill AFB 80th Anniversary series. On October 15, 2005, approximately 150 Airmen from the 1st Fighter Wing’s 27th Fighter Squadron arrived at Hill AFB from Langley AFB, Virginia. They brought with them the Air Force’s newest fighter, the F-22A Raptor. Over the next two weeks, the Airmen operated the new stealth fighter from Hill AFB’s airfield while completing some of the final steps necessary for the aircraft to achieve initial operational capability. Using the Utah Test and Training Range, the 2,675-square-mile and largest block of over-land airspace in the contiguous United States, the 27th Fighter Squadron demonstrated the F-22’s capability to effectively deploy the Joint Direct Attack Munition. This contributed to the aircraft reaching IOC, on time and according to schedule, as planned, in December 2005. It came as no surprise when Air Force Materiel Command assigned the Ogden Air Logistics Center as the depot source of repair for the F-22 Raptor. By the early 2000s, the Ogden ALC had over three decades of experience supporting the U.S. Air Force’s premier jet fighter systems. Additionally, the low observable composites work that began on Hill AFB at the beginning of the decade for the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber made it a natural choice for work on fifth generation stealth fighters such as the F-22. In competing for the workload, the primary question was more about how much of the work would be completed by private industry versus at the Ogden ALC. Ultimately, AFMC chose to have the prime contractor, Lockheed Martin Corporation, conduct some F-22 maintenance at its Palmdale, California, facility while the Ogden ALC would also support the weapon system at Hill AFB. What a beauty! 😍 Assembly is underway of our X-59 Quiet SuperSonic Technology X-plane, with a target date for first flight in summer 2022. The unique, elongated nose of the aircraft measures over 30 feet long and is a critical element in our design to reduce the loud sonic boom, heard from supersonic aircraft, to no more than a quiet thump. As you can see in this illustration, the aircraft lacks a forward-facing window – a result of the need to place the cockpit lower and farther back on the airplane because of its nose and fuselage profile. 🇬🇧 The first monoplane fighter and the first with a top speed of over 483 km/h (300 mph) to enter RAF service was the Hawker Hurricane joining the RAF in December 1937. The Hurricane Mk I with 768-kW (1,030-hp) Rolls-Royce Merlin II and an armament of eight 7.7-mm (0.303-in) machine-guns was Fighter Commands principal fighter in the Battle of Britain in 1940, and destroyed more enemy aircraft than all other defences combined. My absolute favourite aircraft and the machine most special to me, the Spitfire. A fact not too many people know about me, is that I’m the youth ambassador for the Spitfire Association! My great grandfather flew these incredible aircraft in WWII and they are arguably the machine that saved the war. Photographed here at Flying Legends in 2019, sad to report that a month ago this beautiful aircraft had to make a forced landing on a routine flight from Duxford Aerodrome, crashing into a field and then hitting trees at some speed after suspected engine failure. Mercifully neither the pilot nor his passenger were badly injured, but the aircraft sustained considerable damage, the fuselage breaking in two just forward of the pilot’s seat. Whether she will ever fly again and live up to her ‘Invincible’ nickname is open to question – it’s always so tragic when these precious aircraft are lost. Let’s hope she can be restored and rebuilt.
