Figured this would be a good time to share my debt free journey... ⠀ I had $5000ish worth of debt as a combo of debt in collections and money I owed a friend. I thought it was trivial so I didn’t share my journey. But I allowed that $5000 to define my relationship with money and myself. That number was a reminder of all the mistakes I made, of all the times I gave up on myself because life got hard. At some point that 5k was more than I made in 6 months. Im not exaggerating. Not too long ago I had checked out of life, I wasn’t there for me. I was broke and broken. ⠀ My wake up call wasn’t just hitting a financial rock bottom, it was when I realized my motivation for getting my ish together was to simply not end up like the dude I was dating. WILD. But when you’re broke and broken... guess what you attract 👀. So I got it together, finally finished college after 7 years, ended things with dude, got a shitty job to start paying off the debt and most importantly I went to therapy. ⠀ The first half of this year I wasn’t earning a livable wage and was proud of myself for clocking in everyday. I proved to myself that I could be there for me and do it consistently... finally. And now by the grace of God, someone saw fit that I take all my knowledge and experience, the good and the bad and teach. Some may complain about a teacher salary but this check hits different knowing where I came from. ⠀ So when you hear me talk about getting shame out of your finances, it’s because I lived it. When I say don’t let the debt consume you, it’s because I let just $5000 cripple me. There’s more to life. You don’t need to be intense about your journey... you just need to be intentional. ⠀ I’m here to normalize FREEDOM. Not just debt freedom, but freedom from shame and guilt, from fear, from anything that’s holding you back. I’m not sure if freedom is a destination...it seems like when I get free from one thing, something else comes up. But I’m committed to the process. Through executive order, the Trump Administration is cancelling the payroll tax for certain working people starting September 1, 2020.... but is this a payroll tax cancellation?? * * * ABSOLUTELY NOT! This move from the administration is not a tax cut, but a deferment. This executive decision would defer all payroll tax for people who make LESS than $4000 (gross) per 2 week pay period. What does that mean for you? You’ll see more money in your check from September 2020 - December 2020. But there’s a massive downside that you need to know... * * * In the first 4 months of 2021, your employer WILL have to pay have to pay that payroll tax back using your check. What does that mean? You’ll potentially be paying DOUBLE payroll tax from January 2021 - April 2021 to cover the cost. So what should you do? Plan ahead and start putting any extra money you earn in a savings account and do not touch it because when your checks get slim in 2021, you’ll wish you had. * * * If this executive decision holds up, there could be a chance for CONGRESS to forgive the unpaid payroll tax during this deferment, but since it isn’t a guarantee... do not plan to receive that gift. - @kickstart_law_llc on Instagram
