As a child I was heavily influenced by Vivienne Westwoods @viviennewestwood iconic sense of clothing design. I think her Seditionaries line was by far the most impactful uniform for what was the start of Punk fashion. Ive since then dove into what went into her clothing, specifically the aesthetic and ethics behind it. At one point I owned her classic shirt that has been seen countless times being worn by John Lydon, with the words DESTROY on top of a swastika and Jesus crucified upside down. I got it from some scummy dude at the swap meet in San Diego when I was thirteen years old for $25, which seemed like a lot at the time. I held onto it for years, but never was able to wear it, for obvious reasons. There was no way I could go out in public with a swastika on a shirt. I fully understand Westwoods point in using that as part of the image, but I can not expect any normal person to understand it. Plus the shirt itself was so fragile since it was vintage. I ended up trading it to this really cool collector in Los Angeles for a tailored suit which I have since outgrown. I do regret parting ways with the shirt, since its now worth anywhere from $2K to $5K. Either way, I highly suggest checking out the film Westwood: Punk, Icon, Activist if you get a chance. Recently I came across my comrades clothing line, @addictedtochaos_ , who has renditions of Westwoods work. I understand that this shirt design might fall in the category of bootleg stuff, but this might be a different situation, in part due to Westwoods original idea of giving her clothing away to the punks. Also the fact that she assumingly is an anarchist. I was given this version of the Seditionaries shirt, minus the controversial swastika, and feel that its pretty suiting. Perhaps its a progressive and modern (?) spin on what Westwood was portraying in the 70s. So you’re eating super healthy right? “Yeah”. But you’re still not losing weight right? “Yeah.” The truth is that you’re looking at this all wrong. Actually...99% of people struggle with this before getting results. Here’s an example...I once had a client Named Frank and when Frank first started his fitness journey to lose belly fat, he did exactly what he thought he should do. Eat healthy Workout a lot At first glance, you think to yourself “Yeah, that works right?” Nope. The reason why the scale doesn’t move based off of healthy foods is because eating healthy doesn’t get rid of fat. The activity of eating healthy DOES NOT burn fat. Instead of ONLY tracking the quality of the food, we need to start tracking the quantity of what you’re eating. Within the first 3 days of my program, it is super clear to me why clients were struggling before and thats because I have them track. Just track, not restrict, not starve… This highlights a huge problem. Overeating. Overeating can actually be done pretty easy with healthy foods as well. Def easier with processed foods for sure, but eating healthy doesn’t excuse anyone from this. One of those little guacamole cups from Chipotle are 500+ calories and people are adding them to their bowls because “it’s healthy”, but little do they know that they could have had a big mac instead of guac. “But it’s HEALTHY FATS…” Still doesn’t matter brother! STILL. DOESN’T. MATTER. Your body will gain weight if you’re eating too many calories. It doesn’t matter if the calories come from the moon or Japan brother! So here’s how you fix this. Calorie prioritize or follow the carbs after dark framework: Protein and fats in the am/afternoon and save most of your carbs for the evening. You also want to track your food but by simply following a framework, you go from aimlessly eating to a structured routine that you can account for. I hope this helps brother. Let’s talk about the time of day we workout. I’ve read in a few articles and studies that working out in the morning is more beneficial because you burn more calories working out in a fasted state. While other articles state that working out in the evening is more advantageous. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Both of these viewpoints on when the best time to exercise could be true, depending on who you ask. One person might argue morning is the best and another could argue for later in the day. I’m no expert but, to me, none of that matters all too much as long as you make a conscious decision to stay active. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Lucky for me I get to train twice a day during the week. I have been boxing to challenge my mind and strengthen my body for the long-haul. It’s been so much fun, honestly. I’m still such a relative beginner but I feel this strong affinity to these disciplines, also been doing Muay Thai. I have done martial arts in the past, karate when I was real young and capoeira in my 20’s. I shifted to yoga in my early-30’s and, then by my mid-30’s, was more into drinking beer as a touring musician :P Now feels really different. I’ve been training mostly by myself since lockdown but have started one-on-ones which I am super thrilled about. I know I can progress quickly this way. I am very grateful. I’m gonna get schooled for sure lol I know this. Bring it. I actually owe a lot to @natebowerfitness for his awesome online program #elevatedfitness and to @primal.swoledier for his wicked kettlebell routines for getting me strong and conditioned. Celebrate & Honor yourself every day 🤍 You don’t have to do anything grandiose to celebrate yourself on a daily basis. Here’s a few things that count towards honoring and celebrating YOU: ✨1. Self love and acknowledgment. Praise your body for carrying you through the day, for being able to move freely. Praise yourself for even the “small” tasks and milestones that you accomplish throughout each day. The way you speak to yourself is so important. It sets the tone for how others will treat you. ✨2. Nourishment. Start each day with a clear mindset that food is not the enemy. Food is fuel. You want to use the most premium fuel and make sure that the tank is full. It’s about getting the right amount of foods to help you through each day to bring you mental clarity, physical energy and recovery. ✨3. Move. Taking care of your body through movement is such a big way to love your body. I don’t mean heavy weight lifting in the gym 6 days a week. Any type of movement like yoga, stretching, nature walks, bike rides, etc. does so much for your mental & physical health. In return this helps with stress and Serotonin levels. We often put off exercise because we don’t feel like it, but taking the leap to move our bodies can help us feel so much better in return. ✨4. Rest. Know that it’s okay to take rest instead of punishing yourself for it. Know that it’s okay to say no to those plans when it’s going to stretch your stress further. Know that it’s okay to say no when you need the time to yourself. Rest and proper sleep play such a huge roll in energy levels, hormones, recovery, physical fitness goals & mental health. Over doing it isn’t the cool thing to do — it’s the selfish thing to do for you. Point blank, stop being so hard on yourself. Fitness and Nutrition are meant to bring clarity and wellness to your life. Social interactions are meant to be enjoyed AFTER you’ve given yourself the time & self care that we all deserve. 「Coverage」Rick Owens Paris Apartment For numerous years, Rick Owens lived in West Los Angeles, converting three empty storefronts into his own home and studio space. Following quick development and growth within his namesake label, Rick Owens decided that it was necessary to move to Paris, for both career related and personal reasons. He moved with his partner, Michèle Lamy, to a townhouse in an aristocratic neighborhood, nestled in the Place du Palais Bourbon. Purchased in 2004, the former French Socialist Party headquarters was stripped bare of any evidence of previous occupation. Rick adorned the desolate townhouse using a combination of his own designed furniture, sculptures, and other artwork. The industrial anachronistic structure resembles that of an abandoned warehouse. The exposed plasterboard, rugged cement floors, and displays of damage are present throughout the townhouse, making it unique to Rick Owens. Could you imagine yourself living here? I just finished reading „American Dirt“ by Jeanine Cummins. I couldn‘t put the book down and ended up reading it in one go and I can‘t stop thinking about it.
