A year ago this was the only way we could all get some rest. I was so nervous to sleep in the bed with them because I tend to roll like a rotisserie chicken. However the body knows. I didn’t move an inch and I slept the best I had (at that point) since the babies were born. Tonight Grace took her first steps and its led me to reflect on the year that has been (yes, I know we still have a few weeks left before the year is over). What an emotion eleven weeks that has been! We’ve been forced to face life and death all at once, and its confusing, painful + magical all in one. Today we say goodbye to my dear Nonna Teresa. Her life story has been a massive part of my life. She lost three children and two husbands, moved from one world to another and worked unbelievably hard to build a better life. Through my eyes, she was always an older woman, always the wise, strong and established powerhouse, but I now realise she was once young and naive like us all. I wonder where she was when she looked deep into the eyes of her first child. All the questions she had then that I have now. All the mistakes she made that I will make moving forward and all the love and pain she felt that I have coming for me. I could not have done what I’ve done if I did not have Harper. Since having Harper I’ve worked a lot harder and I’ve dreamt a lot bigger. For her & for our family’s future. MotherHEARD: Remembering the pain and the Joy. Do you relate to this? I asked my husband to take this photo. I asked for that, as I sat nursing my son, because I just finished sobbing. I asked for my husband to take this photo because I wanted to remember the pain I was feeling as well as the joy. I was crying because postpartum is a hard thing to navigate. I was crying because sometimes Ezra needs white noise (especially the vacuum) to fall asleep, even if I’m holding him, and that night it made me feel like he didn’t love me and that he was comforted by a vacuum more than me. I was crying because I felt like my stomach was so useless now that it didn’t house my baby. I was crying because I missed carrying him with me always, even though I wanted pregnancy over in the end. I was crying because I thought “I don’t fit in my body anymore” I was crying because though I firmly believe in not being embarrassed of stretch marks, the reality hit me that I will never look the same. I was crying because everything is different now. I was also crying because my husband is so kind and so uplifting and always makes me feel better. He told me I was a good mom. He reminded me that Ezra does in fact love me. He told me how beautiful I am to him, and how in awe his is of my strength and persistence throughout pregnancy and birth. He told me he loved me. I asked him to take this picture because I wanted to remember that I grew my son in that belly. I continue to feed and nourish him with my body. 🦷 TEETHING🧚♀️ I feel like I’ve been saying she’s teething for the last 5 months now. 😅 But at 8 months there is still no sign of any teeth popping through 😫 For the last 3 days she just hasn’t been herself, she felt warmer than normal (last night she was 37•c which apparently is not considered a high temperature or fever), she’s been dribbling & having her hands constantly in her mouth/ trying to chew on something & generally unsettled & irritable. I’m going to see how she is tomorrow but i’ve ordered a teething gel & my friend recommend baby ibuprofen so will use that if she needs it, but being constant entertainment seems to have helped keep her mind off it a bit & she’s better today than yesterday which the doctor on the phone said is obviously a good thing! A few other things that have helped her so far with teething @matchstick_monkey 🐒 chew, balls & rubber blocks (they are linked on my blog) @cheekychompers do a great bib that’s thick to soak up the dribble & also has a chew on the bottom. I read that the gum & tooth wipes in @myhaboxuk can help & I am going to make ice lolly’s tomorrow. I’m sure you know my frustration but I finally felt like (with the help of Anna @sleeping_bunnies_ ) that we had nailed the self settling 7-7 💤 . But the last few days everything’s gone out the window, she’s been sleeping in with us, falling asleep on the bottle & it’s also mad after a handful of days how broken & little sleep makes you feel like newborn baby stage zombies again. 1 month - 9lbs 9oz // 22.5 inches long We love our girl❤️ this month has been both amazing and exhausting. I’m shocked that she’s grown so much in such a short time and continues to grow everyday. Her newborn clothes barely fit anymore and we’re starting to be in the next size. Also her baby chub and rolls are coming in nicely.😍 Abby loves making faces at us and has even perfected the eye roll already. We love her and her sass. We’ve already started seeing a few smiles from our girl too. In true baby fashion her favorite things are eating, bath time and her most favorite..snuggling with her daddy and falling asleep on his chest. She’s definitely a daddy’s girl already. I never want to forget how stubborn she is about having her arms in her swaddle. No matter how stratigically I swaddle her she always manages to escape her arms. My little Houdini escape artist baby. 😜 I also love whenever she’s ready to eat she’ll pucker her lips and make the cutest kissing sounds. Definitely makes waking up in the middle of the night for a feed worth it for those cute faces, even though we’re dead tired. 😚 We also have a million nicknames for her already 😂 Abs, Abster, Abalicious, baby boo, Chicka, Baby Chicka, Houdini baby, lizard girl, our sassy gassy gal (@kalbiddle 😜) and kissy kissy girl.. just to name a few. “Quarantine is what you choose to make of it folks. The pic on the left is me at peak chunkiness. I did literally nothing active, and had almost an exclusive diet of high-calorie breast milk. Yep, I was baby fat!!! After hitting rock bottom, (like literally, my dad took his eyes off me for a second, and I rolled off the couch 😳) I knew I had to make the most out of these crazy times. Changed up my diet to superfoods like blueberries and avocado, and I started waking up at 5am to walk. Just a few steps at first, but each day I pushed myself more and added new exercises like roaring at birds at the park and dancing to Lil Dicky’s Earth. (climate change is real people) Yesterday, I checked my Apple watch to see I had set a new personal best of 4 million steps! It hasn’t been easy, but when I look myself in the mirror and see the toddler on the right, I’m all smiles and giggles.
