“The Bully” is keeping a smile on my face at the moment. It provided a few Swift sized belts of laughter through tears earlier today too. He was almost always described as “a musician’s musician” which felt like the highest caliber of compliment to me. As a non-music playing fan, to “get” Swift’s music felt like a secret entry into a club occupied by people who would become quick friends. His records have meant a great deal to me for nearly a third of my life and - my god - for how sad they tend to be, I’ve done a lot of falling in love to them. This weekend I checked into @thehoxtonhotel for a night of indulgent me time. There is absolutely nothing wrong with making time for yourself and ensuring you’re top of your own priority list. It’s not selfish to look after yourself. There’s something about being a mother that has become synonymous with sacrifice and martyrdom, well that doesn’t always work for me. My kids need someone who isn’t always burnt out and tired. My daughter threw a coin into a fountain recently and made a wish - she wished for me to be happy and it really struck me to my core. So, I’m making it my priority to be happy. Whilst holidays abroad aren’t really an option for me right now, little staycations are what I’ll be doing, eating chocolate and rewatching my favourite tv programmes or finding new ones (thanks for the recommendations- see my stories). What things can you do to make you happy? Thank you for putting me up @thehoxtonhotel the rooms are newly refurbished and have been strip-backed in-line with Covid regulations. I loved the cosy, retro feel of the space and obviously the location is spot on. The cleanliness was immaculate and the bed and pillows are unbelievably comfortable. My room is currently £185 on their website and included breakfast. P.S sorry about the chocolate on the bed covers 🤫 - @stylemesunday on Instagram

🌙 A Few Tips for the Feel Goods: I use these especially on days where I have lots of self doubt and anxiety❤️ 🌸 Wake Up - You are Important. 🌸 Start the day with at least one thing that makes you happy and fills your proverbial “cup”. If you need to wake up a little earlier to do that make it happen. Set a zillion alarms like I do. 🌸Give social media a break for a bit- especially first thing in the morning. The overload of information, intense feelings, etc can wait. 🌸 Write in a journal or whatever you have 5-10 things you’re grateful for. On my toughest days I didn’t write anything down but I made a mental note, at least. 60 days. Anyone know what it’s like to desperately want to share something - a thought, an idea, a photo, a song - and look up to realize you’ve spent days/months/years trying to compose something that just “isn’t good enough?”  Well, that’s me tonight, writing this post and that’s been me my whole life with this damn dream of mine. & What I was originally trying to say was that I only have 60 days left in my twenties and there’s a lot that did/didn’t happen:  I didn’t get married, I didn’t finish my degree, I barely even started “my career.” But I survived the loss of my brother and I fiercely birthed a beautiful, strong willed daughter. And after 5 years of longing/weeping over and manifesting it, I reconnected with the love of my life. Only to feel unworthy of, self-sabotage and lose him again. I doubted, questioned, found and thanked God. And I wrote a crapload of songs I was (until semi-recently) too scared to share with the world. I gained my independence and have supported my daughter and myself which, at one time seemed impossible. Lately, though, I’ve been too fixated on how much I still want to accomplish in my life and am panicking like I only have 60 more days to get it done. Every year, I say “I want to have accomplished xyz” and every year I make the deadline my birthday. So fun and celebratory! 🙄 Why would this year be any different?  So buckle up and brace yourselves cause I’ve got one birthday wish and it’s to share more of my songs (and my story) no matter what. You can hear what I’ve released so far at the link in my bio. There is only one more 80-degree day for the next couple of weeks. I’ve noticed some new things about my body recently, and I’m really grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow with my changing figure. When our bodies change, I think the first feeling we have is fear or depreciation. But the opposite of negativity is gratitude, and I am choosing that. My dad once told me, “change is always good,” when he broke the news that we were moving from California to Idaho. As a teenager, I thought he was crazy (and ruining my life). But as I’ve dealt with many life changes and grown from each one, I realize he is right. Change may be scary, but it’s what makes life worth living. Throughout our lives, one thing that we can count on to change is our bodies. And instead of trying to fight or prevent that change, welcome it. Take it as an opportunity to get to know yourself on a deeper level. Just so you know, your body is pretty remarkable. If life has taught me anything it’s that change is inevitable and that hating my body never got me anywhere. So as the leaves change colors, reflect on how you may be changing, too. So let’s take it back this Throwback Thursday. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Wayyyyy back. To before I or my mother was even born. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ My grandmother passed away when my mother was a child, so I never got to meet her. As a teenager the only photo we had of her was unearthed in a trove of family belongings. It was an amazing day. When I first moved to Los Angeles in 2007 to attend acting school, I joined the church I had been watching on TV since high school- #CrenshawChristianCenter. Dr. Fred Price was still preaching and a gang of people I grew up watching use to attend. @iamroberttownsend held a class on pitching a tv show at the church. I went with one intention- get him to cast me. While I was there, I took some notes. I had no intention of writing TV shows, let alone pitching them. I just took notes to help me pay attention. One thing that stuck out to me was that he created a ‘bible,’ which would serve as a guidepost while he was filming. Little reminders for himself while directed. It’s a lot to direct a project you’re acting in. Here I am years later writing a thinkpiece about church that I acted in and directed. And I just realized, I made myself a little bible to keep me on track during filming. And he hasn’t cast me in anything but I think I learned what I needed. Today, the last Friday of September, I’m reflecting on this year. A year ago I was applying for the job that I currently have, honestly on a whim because I NEVER foresaw myself actually being picked. I found out I got the job after walking right out of a yoga class in December 2019 when my Commanding Officer called to tell me and I actually asked him if he was joking. Now December 2020 is quickly approaching. Finding myself in the spot that I’ve worked for over the last 6 years - am I putting everything I have into it? Am I proving to those that selected me that they made the right choice? Am I proving to myself that I am capable and I deserve this? Am I doing what’s best for my Marines and Sailors and am I giving them my best? . You need to work hard FOR things, but you when you achieve things, the work doesn’t stop. Now it’s time to make the difference, inspire others, look outward and impact future leaders - that’s where the real work begins. - @jackiee.barnum on Instagram
